Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

THE AMP HAS GOTTEN VERY EXPENSIVE IN THE LAST 6-8 YEARS, AND HAS GONE FROM $1899 TO $2499 BUT THIS AMP COVERS EVERY STYLE AND CAN DO IT ALL. THE BEST THING TO ME IS IT HAS MORE LOW END THEN THE POWERBALLS, INVADERS, STEVE MORSE AMPS, AND THE SCORPIONS USED THIS AMPS FOR MANY YEARS FROM WHAT I CAN UNDERSTAND.

Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

Such a great Amp. Sounds amazing at loud volumes. Tight, punchy gain with plenty of headroom. The sound stays together with NO breakup even with the highest of gain. The versatility of this amp is a plus. Get the Z-10 foot switch to control all the numerous auxiliary functions. You wont be needing an OD pedal either. I use boutique style analog delays and reverbs through the FX loop and it's the most organic sound ever. Not to mention the sparkling cleans this amp has. I would highly recommend this amp to anyone interested in playing extreme death or black metal. The gain stages in the 2 main channels(3&4) seem to be best suited for this playing style. However you can get plenty of other great sounds out of this amp with a little tweaking. It's a little pricey but worth all the extra $$$. Those Germans really think things through.

Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

I've had a framus cobra, bogner acstacy 101b, Mesa single dual and triple rectifiers,I've also had a couple bogner ubershalls along the way that's just a few so as you can see I've been on a hunt for A long time about 15 years now actually for "THE AMP" The one amp that doesn't have a bad sound in it.Well my fellow muisicians I can honestly say my search is over and I say this because I've had this amp for almost 1 1/2 now and I love it just as much as the first day it was delivered to my door step!! The features are unbelievable at this price I couldn't it. I've paid 1 to 2 thousand dollers more for other amps with this kind of versatility and for the most part the features were just gimmicks stuff you really didn't wanna use because it would muddy up the tone in some way or another. This amp also has a reputation for being a metal amp and rightfully so but I've used this amp for everything from blues SRV to country chickin pickin brad paisly, to deftones and periphery I would say that's some serious Ground and I've accomplished this with excellent results!! Did I also mention that when you crank this amp the people next door to you will run to there basement thinking Armageddon has made way!!! Yes this amp has tons of power more than most will ever need but it's cool to have it on tap.But I also wanna mention you don't need to crank this amp to get that nice tube driven saturation we all love in the gain stage.Go buy this amp you will not be disappointed!!!!!!!

      Still searching but almost there.

Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

I bought an 03 model used on ebay in 06 and just to show the reason for the max value rating i sold it in 2010 for exactly what I paid for it. I had retubed it with JJ's(130 bucks) but it was worth every dime. I ran mine eventualy with a rocktron effects/hush.(get a better noise gate(decimator), you'll need it). And BBE through the effects loop. I have to say I sold mine for financial purposes and cried all the way to the UPS store. This amp is Incredible and now I'm searching for the ultimate amp again now that I got my job back. If you play anything from 80's metal to modern Death Metal this is your baby. Like I said GET A GREAT noise gate. That is the only reason features didn't get a 5.

      Like No Other

      By Smull

Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

When looking for a serious upgrade to my live rig extensive research brought me to Engl. At first I was sold on the Invader 100, but after more research I concluded the was common ground between the Invader 100 and the Savage 120. After trying both out in store I immediately gravitated towards the Savage 120 and truly believe it is the go to sound for metal/death metal/prog metal etc. Basically anything with absolutely sludging gain needed. Obviously try it out, but this is honestly the go to amplifier for todays metal musician.

      Amazing Peice of Equipment !

Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

When I joined the Engl Family I started with a Powerball which I still own proudly. after 2 years of owning this peice of work I needed to find something more that could bring even more to the table, after hearing the sound of the Savage I went ahead and ordered one, i must say I have never been happier with an amp. it's loud, powerful, versitile and has more balls then the powerball has. I highly recommend this amp to any metal head who likes deathmetal, metalcore, or even Blackmetal. But can also be used for other styles as well.

      lives up to its name

Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

the savage is a extremely dynamic and versitile amp, that can take you anywhere from plexi breakup, to the classic ENGL roar. i have owned the Invader 100 and the powerball, and this is the tightest soiunding of them all, and probable has the best gain structure. you will need a noise gate, but htis amp is well worth it

      Wow..

      By Thrash_man

      from Dothan

Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

Seriously, this Amp is amazing, it's pricey, yes, but it's worth ever cent by far. The cleans are amazing, with just the right amount of sparkle, but if you drive the clean channel you get a nice, lightly over driven sound. The Crunch 1 Channel offers nice old-school Hard Rock and if used right, Old-School Metal tones, the Crunch 2 Channel offers a bit more distorition than the Crunch 1, and the Lead channel is amazing, great lows, nice highs that are never shrill, and great warmth and tone even from the stock tubes. The Dual Master Volumes is nice for changing from playing in your bedroom to playing with the band (Instead of trying to get it right with one volume knob, you can do it with the push of a button.)Anyone of any play style can use this amp, though the gain on the lead channel screams Metal, it could be used for Classic Rock, Blues, probably even country. It's really an amazing amp, with at least as much versatility as horrible sounding and over priced Digital models. Tube sound, lots of versatility, god like tone. Nothing more for this Metal Head to ask for.

Engl Savage 120 - The one to end it all

      By Andrew Zegel

      from Chicago.

Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

I think I should briefly preface this review by mentioning (and not to appear arrogant) that I have been through quite a large number of 'boutique' amp heads. I have been in recording sessions with all these amp heads (Mesa, VHT, Bogner, Soldano, Framus, Diezel) and the ENGL always exceeds my every expectation. Now, I go from my Bare Knuckle Cold Sweat into a Maxon OD-808, then into a Boss NS-2, and then into the amp (all evidence cables). The sounds I achieve with this set-up are out of this world dynamic, heavy, clear, and dry yet so organic. Everyone has THAT sound in their head, the sound that will fit your style so well that when you find it your fingers will suddenly have a mind of their own and the possibilities are then endless . . . this amp will get you there, what ever the sound is! It does excel in heavy music but the cleans are as clean as an old school Fender, the kt88s in the power section speak for themselves with endless power and clarity. Engl has one of the best build qualities out there right now too. Seriously; ceramic tube sockets, thick copper tracing on the boards, you really cannot beat German engineering. I have reviewed this amp with completely stock tubes and am stunned to no end, I can't wait to get the new tubes from Musicians Friend. I urge you to try this amp if you are shopping. And if you're in the position to, just buy it . . . it's no contest, this is the one!

engl 120, what a savage BEAST

Comments about Engl Savage 120W Guitar Amp Head:

all i can say is WOW, stop reading this and go buy it, then thank me later. this amp is all i thoguh it would be and then some. i play manily alt rock and metal. i used to have a marshall jcm, but not enought gain, i had a mesa dual rec but i had to boost it with a tube screamer to gwt enought gain, the savage has more gain then i will ever need, and my search for tone is over. i never thoguth i would say either of those 2 things. ch1 is really nice crisp cleans, ch2 good blues breakup ch3 nich marshall plexi to jcm world and ch4 is just of the wall earsa bleeding shredding gain leads. also has great toine shaping tools like bright, depth cntour and more. 2 fx loops, 2 seperate eqs and 2 master and 2 presence controls. really well thought out and well built. replace the 6550 with gold lion kt8s worked well for me, also mxr 10 in the fx loop is a must.
