Comments about Engl Special Edition Preamp E 570:

I own a ton of amps and pre's, as I am a pro player. This includes two full ENGL E670 EL34 rigs and two Mesa rigs (Mark V stack and Road King II stack). So tone is critical to me, as you can tell. I wanted/needed a good walk-on rig that didn't need an amp and cab ... i.e., plug direct into the mixing console/snake without dragging the trailer with stacks in it. I was also looking for something that I could use in the studio for a quick walk-on as well. Enter the E570. I matched this up with a Fractal Audio AxeFX II for effects only through the effects loop of the ENGL and control the entire thing with the Fractal MC101 MIDI controller. Let me tell you, it is one of the best sounding rigs you will ever hear. It is not harsh at all, unless you don't know how to tweak a good tube pre. It is classic ENGL all the way. The clean is the best in the business. The crunch is the best that Marshall never made. The two lead channels are as soaring or raw as you want to make them. This thing is very versatile, so long as you are using the FX loop to dial in some verb and delay, or whatever else you may need. That 'warms' it up even more. Get it, you will not be disappointed!

Comments about Engl Special Edition Preamp E 570:

    I can't understand how anyone could not love this unit. Channel 1 - Clean, Channel 2 - Crunch, Channel 3 - Modern Rock/Metal, Channel 4 - MEGA Modern/Deathmetal/Shred tone.
Programming midi is a snap, the noise gate is good, not amazing but decent if you run it along with something like the decimator.

Comments about Engl Special Edition Preamp E 570:

The other reviewer is correct - the lead channel stinks. It is way too fizzy. Really lacks the warm notes that I can get from a PSA SansAmp or some of the older models like ADA MP1.

Really a disappointment for an expensive preamp.

Never again will I buy Engl.

    Godsend

Comments about Engl Special Edition Preamp E 570:

    This machine is godsend.
As a studio and session guitarist, thanks to ENGL, now my life is much easier recording real tube sounds. I was sick of dull digital amp modeling and messing up with microphones and cabinets.
This preamp sounds great and is versatile enough to give you shimmering cleans, brutal metal growls and anything in between. Believe me, you wouldn't need anything else.
It is pricy, but it well worth the price.
One recording tip: try to add some IR impulses to the recording channel on your DAW to have the perfect tube driven, face melting sound.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

    Good but not Great!!

    By Ronald Gonzalez

Comments about Engl Special Edition Preamp E 570:

This preamp was just not for me....I still love ENGL products and would play nothing else. All I can say is that this is why ENGL designs so many diffenret models, so there will be something for everyone.

    ENGL ROCK!!!
I've been a ENGL user & supporter since 93' so pain me to say this did not live up to my expectation. I've owned (5) different ENGL Heads, (2) preamp, (2) poweramp & 2 V30 loaded cabs....Currently, I still have 3 ENGL heads (Blackmore, Fireball 60w, Powerball II, plus a 520 preamp & 30x30w poweramp... Here are my thought on the e570:
Channel 1 is amazing, that is if you love a crystal clear compressed tones, which I do. The Ultra Bright & Bright button work like a charm Channel 2 was also impressive, tones were in the classic rock realm. Again the Bright & Ultra Bright button were handy (but noise is an issue with the ultra button) Channel 3 & 4 Though the overall tones were good they were not great, these channels defintely lack a presence knob, in my opinion. When compared to the clarity of Channel 1 & 2 they seem so muddy & dark sounding tought to find a balance. I kept refering to my other ENGL to amp to see if my ear were playing rick on me....If I had to do it again I'd would save up and by the 6L6 head version, I'm sure that would have my ENGL expectations.
ENGL's build quality is 2nd to NONE...THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!
An expensive preamp should just destroy you, it just wasn't what I had hoped for. I am saddened by that......but although it's not for me, I'm sure other may find joy in this preamp. My other ENGLs just sounded way better to me, OVERALL.

    Nothing can touch this thing!

Comments about Engl Special Edition Preamp E 570:

This is by far the best pre amp on the market today! ENGL is by the best quality compared to any manufactuer on the market. It is by the most versitle tube preamp and much better sounding the Mesa Tri-axis. Another good thing is it is a rack unit which is much more simple and easier to bring on the road with you. The best thing about this is its midi section. Allows you to save all your presets. You cant go wrong with this!
