Overall I have to give this box an 8. Because it's made so well, and it's quiet, has true by passing and other adjustable software type features, and it sounds so damn cool! The concerns I have with it are minor and some would find them no problem at all. Do I think it's worth the price? That depends on if you need a real boost in the creative department with your music. I did so I'd say to me it was worth the money.

I got the box and set it up. First of all this thing has a steep learning curve. Not that it's difficult, it's fairly intuitive, but it takes lots of tweaking. I went so far as to build a stand for it to elevate it up so I don't have to hold on to it. There's so much involved in knob dicking that it's a literally a pain in the back to keep bending over it trying thousands of different settings. It is very well built, but one would think it should be for five hundred dollars. It's quiet even in the active settings. It has a built in tuner that's way better than some of the dedicated tuners I've used. This is a must do step to using the box, because if your strings are off just a bit the resulting cascades sound rather awful. So you have to tune up the instrument first of all, a good idea if you ask me. It's also a great idea to play the tonic note you are playing in and hold down the learn button at the same time. This gives the Pitchfactor a reference point on how to establish correct harmonies. I wish I didn't have to go thru this step every time before I used it," the instructions say that the box ""remembers"" where it was when it is shut down. I found that; A. either the guitar went a tad out of tune overnight or the box had a bad dream because I had to redo the learning process the next time I used it.

The display on the front of the box is difficult to read much less understand. The dots leds are a bad idea. This part of the box sucks in my opinion. It should be easier to read for this much money. The box comes with a huge wall wart. Would be just as convenient to use a long cord and have the damn transformer inside the pedal.      The knobs lack any sort of scalar markings so you really are just ""ball parking"" the knobs when you move them around.

I really like this box. It's unlike anything I've ever used before. I can't say that I liked the way it sounded when I added some overdrive. This has a tendancy to muddy up the entire signal path and added some harsh harmonics that left me wondering why I even tried this!      There is just a plethora of sounds available from this unit. You might as well bring food and drink near your music area", because once you start in with this box you'll fiddle the entire day away with it!      It gets lots of gold stars next to it for sounds and appearance and construction. It gets one brown star for the display. Other than those minor peeves its a great new addition to my music!

The quality of this box is second to none. The main box seems to be constructed out of stout steel sheetmetal. The knobs are pretty decent and separated enough for easy handling. The paint work and finish on it is superb.

I give this a 7 in value because it is what I consider to be an expensive box. There are things that could be better on it for the money. There are things that could be integrated into it to work better with an overdriven signal.

You won't find a better sounding harmonizer for anywhere near this price. And the tracking is spot on.  Bend a note and the harmony notes will follow right along.  No glitching as it tries to decide to jump to the next semitone. Only a rackmount Eventide will provide as good or better harmony effects. It' true that the interface pretty much sucks for live playing if you plan on using several presets. Having only a bank up switch was a very dumb design decision. The auxiliary, 3 button footswitch route will help in the case of one "Factor" pedal. But if you want, say the TimeFactor and the ModFactor you aren't going to be able to share the auxiliary switches.  You will need another, 3 button switch for each pedal. That's a huge chunk of pedalboard realestate and you better make sure you get the largest one you can find.  Not to mention the toe tapping and memory games you'll have to play to hit the correct switch every time. As you can see, they kind of shot themselves in the foot on that design because 3 giant footpedals like the pitch factor and 3 more, 3 button switch units is not practical for any size pedal board. Now if you figure $1,300 + dollars for the 3 Factor pedals, about $100+ for the auxiliary swithes and $300 for a PedalTrain Pro board, one can see how it adds up. The only viable option at that point is a good programmable Midi controller to switch them. So add another $400 - $800 for that in your budget. Hmmm... how much can one get an Eventide Eclipse for? Yeah, a pretty mixed review.  I love the sounds I can get from this pedal and it is truly inspiring.  Disappointed though, because I'm trying to get away from my midi controlled rackmounts and the sound quality of this pedal is so amazing, I wish it were practical to get their other pedals. But if I did, I'd be nearly back where I started as far as going to MIDI control and the price point would be near or at the Eclipse.

Famous Eventide Quality - Endless Possibilities

I bought this to add Eventide's famous pitch shifting to my arsenal as I play a lot of 2 and 3 part harmonies. I am more than pleased that Eventide has put the same quality into this pedal like their rank mount equipment. With all the options there are endless possibilities that open a whole world of creativity and song writing potential, not to mention getting those unique sounds that fill those spots in songs while playing live. With 100 presets, there is enough storage for all my needs. The only reason I rate the features low is that accessing the presets requires scrolling through them, 2 at a time using the right foot switch. This makes accessing higher banks on the fly impossible, however the unit can be set to only use the first 10 banks so flipping on the fly is a faster experience. This is kind of restrictive but is the only solution.

I bought one of these pedals to replace a Digitech Whammy that I had lost. Besides the Whammy, I was using a Morpheus Droptune and a BOSS TU-2 Tuner. The Pitchfactor has easily taken the place of all three. The PF sounds awesome, as you would expect from Eventide. Ironically, I don't have much use for the harmony effects at this time, but, the pitch bend effects have been killer! The Whammy effect (when used with an expression pedal) are very passable and offer some unique variables not available on the Digitech, though, I still prefer the tone of the original hammy. I have also been using it to simulate down tuned guitars in various keys. I've been able to go from four or five stage guitars to just one or two...much easier on the back! The effect is much superior to the Morpheus due to the inclusion of a "darkness" control on the PF. Again, the drop tuning effect is very passable with only very slight tracking and latency issues. In a live stage environment, these are barely noticeable and that's only if you're looking for it. I would still use a real down tuned guitar for recording, but, it works great for the live applications. I've messed around in the studio with the harmony effects and they are stunning! I dialed in some "Hotel California" style sounds with no problem. The tuner is exceptional, as well... The only negative I've had is that there is so much processing power, it is difficult to access it all with just three foot switches onstage. Fortunately, the PF provides an auxiliary jack that will allow the connection of up to three momentary switches. These switches can be assigned to control a whole list of features. I'm using a Digitech FS-300 to control the tuner, bypass, and decrement features. Overall, this pedal is a powerful product and a very useful tool, despite the slightly high price tag. It's made my life much easier and I'm glad I purchased it! I think you will be, as well...
