Comments about Evil Robot C30 18W/30W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I purchased this monster tone machine early Dec 2013 from Musicians friend and my expectations were exceeded ten fold. I can't believe how well this amp was constructed and the tone is something that I have been looking for throughout my professional career. I have owned many of the top brand boutique amps and none of them come close to the tone I get with the C30. All I can say is wow!

It took about one week to receive it, and when it showed up at my house, I couldn't wait to take it for a spin. I read so much about this amp so I decided to buy one to see if all the hype was real. The box was in good shape since I have had many bad experiences with shipping companies over the years. Everything seemed right so I decided to power it up. 5 hours later I needed to stop, this amp inspired me so much that I couldn't stop playing it. I was able to get any classic tone and it was tweak friendly. I've now used it on many sessions as well as live gigs. The response from my band mates and the crowds are amazing. People are coming up to me and telling me my tone is awesome, and that is why I had to write this review.

Comments about Evil Robot C30 18W/30W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I wanted this amp so bad. Although being a one trick pony, that's all that i wanted. A great rockin' tone. When i got it was extremely excited and anxious to play it. I had heard praise from everyone who owned it on the web so i made the purchase without actually hearing it aside from the youtube videos, which i thought sounded pretty sweet.

I plugged straight in, and i never use pedals. From the first A chord I hit, the smile on my face dropped. It sounded like i put a fuzz pedal on a power amp. the sound was not defined at all, mushy at best. i played around with it for about an hour tweaking the settings, finally getting something playable and it still sounded bad. Like it was sick. Upon messing around with it a little more, i finally found a decent tone. The fuzziness still being there reminiscent of the Black Keys but the master volume has to be ALL THE WAY UP. there is a HUGE difference between 9 sounding awful and 10 sounding like the amp should sound. But for me, I shouldn't have to blast an amp for it to sound "decent". Even at 18 watts you will blow your ears out in a smaller, but definitely not bedroom sized room.

I wanted a one trick pony... and i got it, but the trick wasn't that impressive. maybe its the speaker idk, but i dont want to spend money buying a new speaker when i dont like the amp...

It still looks incredible though. Wish it did sound good. I don't wanna deal with shipping it back.

Comments about Evil Robot C30 18W/30W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I had/tried 2 of them and each of them did the same thing... after an hour or so of playing the first one the popping started, about a half-hour later a Very LOUD screeching and growling sound started and a burnt smell was ozzing out of the back... the second one did the same and this one only took 5 minutes.

As to the tone on the first one that worked for a while, there's not much depth to it or clean headroom, the channels are the same and if you set one more than two dots on the dial higher then the other there's a hugh volume jump... not really a two channel amp, more like an amp with a volume boost that you can use clean or dirty depending on your style. I did switch out the tubes on the first one and the noise went away, replaced power tubes with 6L6's & EL34's tried both single and duel tubes, the EL34's sounded best... but i still got this fizzie undertone that wouldn't go away when playing cleaner type chords... same thing on the replacement, as i was only playing clean for 5mins. and then the screeching started as i was already shaking my head hearing the fizzie undertones, turned it off and back it went.

There's is definitely a design flaw with these amps, until this is addressed i would avoid, which is a big bummer for me to say as i love the sounds Phil X was getting out of them on the demo videos, but these amps are not one and the same amps... two differences are there's a low and a high input, the ones he demos are 4 input and two, the preamp tubes are 4 12AX7's and 1 12AU7 there's no 6AV6 tube in these as stated in the discription on the MF web page. I do thank MF for taking them both back and am very greatful for all they do to help us make music.

That's my 2cents, hope it helped.

Comments about Evil Robot C30 18W/30W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

GREAT amp! Obviously there was alot of hype around this amp so I was a bit skeptical that my bromance with Phil X might be the main source of my NEED to have this amp. I was wrong and so happy to be. This is a wonderful piece of gear. I haven't even put good tybes in yet, either. (though I will soon) You aren't limited to just one type of tube either. Pop in whatever you want and it biases itself! These sound especially awesome through an extention cab with the internal speaker still active. I play in a very loud band and have to compete with bassy synths and a vintage Marshall halfstack. It cleans up great via the other channel or your guitar's volume knob. There are plenty of great in depth reviews out there so I won't continue to repeat them. I'm just here to tell you that they are all true. This is a must have for anyone serious about tone. My live playing has gotten infinitely better now that I don't have to fiddle with settings during each song. Now I can just plug in and play. Friggin' awesome awesome awesome! The online demo videos don't even do it justice.

Comments about Evil Robot C30 18W/30W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Amp appears to be well constructed.Sounded good right out of the box. After I swapped out the cheap tubes(recommended)the amp sounded great.
Similar to the original Tonemaster with many more features. Being able to change the tubes without setting the bias(fixed bias)makes this amp very verstile. Tone Americana set me a tube diagram.(excellent cutomer support. I did need to change the tubes but what do you expect for the price.
I've already played out with this amp and yes it has enough clean headroom. Sounds as good as my point to point amps.
