Killer classic rock crunch at low volumes.

The Fargen Mini Plex MKII tube guitar amp head can pump out quality tone at low volumes that's on par with a 50W or 100W amp. The Mini Plex MKII hand -wired tube amp delivers high-energy, cranked tube tone at whisper quiet volumes with a mixture of great tube amp design, world-class custom components that you won't find anywhere else, and the amazing Kevin O'Conner Power Scaling technology. The power scaling circuit uses voltage manipulation to control output volume and power tube overdrives without cutting high end frequencies like an attenuator does, plus it allows you to run the amp anywhere from 12W down to below 1/2W for the ultimate low volume jamming experience.

The Mini Plex MKII captures all your favorite British high gain and classic rock tones with the help of Fargen's patented "Decade Switch" technology. The Fargen "Decade Switch" gives you 3 different classic sounds/gain structures.

Features

  • London Power/Power Scaling control 12W down to less than 1/2W
  • Custom Mercury Magnetics transformers
  • SoZo vintage style mustard capacitors
  • Dual power tube sockets for use with any octal power tube
  • The ability to mix and match tubes
  • DC filaments for ultra quiet operation
  • 1/8" aluminum chassis for the true vintage British amp sound
  • Improved 3 position rotary Decade Switch

Comments about Fargen Amps Mini Plex MKII Tube Guitar Amplifier Head:

I have had this amp for 5 years and have not found a bad sound in it. The ability to switch out any octal tube without biasing is great. The London power scaling is awesome using voltage to attenuate volume v.s resistance does not kill your upper harmonics . The decade switch (60's,70's,80's) is unbelievable and dead on! In combination with the VOS/British switch is very useful.I have used this amp in home studio and jam sessions and it performs beyond my expectations every time. The ability to get that full Marshall stack sound at bedroom levels is a real joy. I would recommend this amp to anyone looking for the plexi, JTM45, JCM800 tones at controllable volumes will not be disappointed in this amp. If you can afford it buy it!

Comments about Fargen Amps Mini Plex MKII Tube Guitar Amplifier Head:

I was looking for a Marshall blues breaker or a Plexi that I could play at home and get Beano, and Hendrix tone at low to moderate levels. I read TGP 50th Anniversary vs Fargen threads and ordered a Mini PlexII through Musicians Friend. It came two weeks earlier than promissed and lived up to the hype and then some. Like having three amps in one with Ben's decade switch. 3D cleans and sweet spots from .5 to 12 watts thanks to two volume controls and a power control. Hats off to Ben. Great design. It should last longer than I will.

Comments about Fargen Amps Mini Plex MKII Tube Guitar Amplifier Head:

Your definitely going to be expecting certain tones when you buy something like this.. hand wired, british circuits, modern innovations, low wattage. You have to go into this wanting to hear spank from your Stratocasters with mild to medium gain and spank from the 2nd and 4th positions ( something alot of amps don't deliver).. beautiful growl from P90's ( P90 fan?.. this is an amp to need to hear), attack and punch from hum buckers. That is what you expect and that is what you get. Jimmy Page, Joe Walsh... and with a good good OD pedal Schenker, Van Halen and Lynch with all the gain you need.

Is this the best amp for the above.. I have no idea. I can only compare it to Marshall and Splawn amps I've had. But this amp delivers on what you would expect and it sounds excellent. I've been playing this amp more than any amp I've purchased in the last 10 years.

Pluses are that the tone controls seem to be tuned correctly.. you won't get any harshness.. just definition, brightness and attack from the treble. Mids sound great turned up or down.. bass on this amp is pretty warm .. you'll need to turn it down to 3 to start to really remove some warmness. Effects loop is very transparent.. really good loop. Power scaling is there for whisper quit levels but I found full up and just using the master is all you need.

The only thing is that you really can't get a satisfying pristine clean with hum buckers, even using your guitars volume. But cleans on single coils with this amp is where its at.

Best for last ... this amp really pulls the best from your guitars .. I have 3 Strats (Stock more or less), 2 SG's ( P90's) and 1 LP (57 Classics) . Playing each one is a different experience.. that is the sign of a good amp when you play your guitar and not your amp.
