OVERVIEW

Small, light and moderately powered.

1968 was a transitional year for Fender amps with tone that was still pure Fender but a look that was brand new. With a silver-and-turquoise front panel and classy aluminum “drip edge” grille cloth trim, the Deluxe Reverb received a fresh new face as it remained the ideal recording and performing amp. Small, light and moderately powered, it produced big tube tone, with world-class Fender reverb and vibrato effects. For countless guitarists ever since, the Deluxe Reverb has been the go-to amp for classic Fender sound.

The ’68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Amp pays tribute to the classic look, sound and performance of Fender’s late-’60s “silverface” amps. In a special twist, both channels boast reverb and tremolo, and the "custom" channel has a modified Bassman tone stack that gives modern players greater tonal flexibility with pedals. The amp also features quicker gain onset and reduced negative feedback for greater touch sensitivity. The ’68 Custom Deluxe Reverb’s single 12” Celestion G12V-70 speaker also delivers a more distinctively rock ‘n’ roll flavor.

Comes equipped with Celestion Speakers (V Type) for a more modern, punchy sound that breaks up nicely when pushed. Reduced negative feedback lends a more “touch-sensitive” feel, quicker break up and added harmonic richness. The shared tremolo on both channels adds to its versatility. Because of this the '68 channels are wired in phase and can be blended for more tonal options, via A/B/Y box. “Custom” channel features a 50s Tweed “Bassman” tone circuit for more low mids and sooner breakup. The Deluxe Reverb has the bright cap removed on the "Vintage” side to make the amp more pedal-friendly.

  • 22 watts into 8 ohms of all-tube power

Comments about Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp with Celestion G12V-70 Speaker:

    I love this AMP !!!
I had two late 70's silver face Deluxe Reverb amps back in the mid 80's. They were in mint condition and I had bought them used for a price because people were just looking to get rid of them. I ended up trading my small collection of Fender and Music Man amps to buy a couple of Mesa Boogie amps after playing through a Mark I at a local club.
Mesa Boogie amps have been my main gigging amp since that time, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Fender amps.
I bought this amp to revisit my old Fender silver face Deluxe Reverb amps and have found an amp that is more versatile and in my opinion sounds better than I remember my original Fender silver face Deluxe Reverb amps sounding ! If you want a Fender amp and you like the way a Fender sounds, buy this amp you won't be disappointed !!!

Comments about Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp with Celestion G12V-70 Speaker:

I had the Reissue '65 Deluxe Reverb and it was good, this '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb is great. I put a lot of money into my American Deluxe Stratocaster with a loaded John Mayer Strat pick guard to get those Big Dipper pickups. This amp delivers every sparkling ounce of the iconic Fender tone I paid for and more. My Analog Man King of Tone overdrive pedal sings now like never before and both of the channels (called Custom and Vintage on this amp) have reverb, vibrato and distinct tonal qualities. Fender got it completly right on this amp from the Groove Tubes, to the Celestion speaker, to the superbly toned Vintage channel, to the thick canvas cover with embroidered logo and the brushed chrome face plate with blue/green lettering. This amp even comes with a tourquoise on/off lamp. The only negative thing I can say about this amp is the layout for the lettering is incorrect. It should be Deluxe-Reverb Amp not Deluxe Reverb-Amp. That is a pretty small complaint overall but it does make me laugh when I see it. Why not center the word "Amp" too so the lettering would have been as gorgeous as the rest of the amp face. Oh well. I have learned to like it! Here's how it sounds.

Finally a great amp from Fender. previous trys have not hit the mark.
Had a 60 watt supersonic and it was shrill and loud on 2. The super sonic 22 has the same problem. theDeluxe you can play in clubs and not have everyone screaming to trun it down.

Comments about Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp with Celestion G12V-70 Speaker:

Sounds great in a variety of styles - maybe the most practical choice for modern gigging. It's easy to tote yet powerful enough for a band but quiet enough for the living room. External speaker possibilities expand its potential even more. Also, an external A/B box could make this an effective 2 channel amp. The Normal channel (Bassman voiced) is more beefy and muscular. I sometimes like just a trace of hair on my clean tones and that can be found here. At Vol 5 to 6, it is breaking up significantly, getting into Clapton Crossroads territory (yep, from a Fender!) The Vibrato channel is the more classic Fender clean, not quite as loud, thinner and more pristine. Though it too can be cranked yielding some decent Riviera Paradise and Lenny tones. The reverb is very good, adjustable from subtle to fairly surfy. The Vibrato is good enough for convincing Born on the Bayou style riffs. There is no effects loop and it is not really missed here. Overdrive/distortion pedals work very well in front of the amp, as well as other types of pedals if you need more than the onboard reverb and vibrato. Both channels pass the dynamics test of going from clean to breakup using just the guitar volume knob. The Celestion speaker IMHO seems to suit this amp from clean to dirty and sounds good even before break in. There is the external speaker option if you feel the need for sounds of a different flavor or more volume. This is an amp true to Fender's successful origins. It is small enough but loud enough. It is easy to carry and rugged. It is versatile and just plain good sounding in almost any situation. Practical size, practical power, very competent tones, versatile.

Comments about Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp with Celestion G12V-70 Speaker:

i owned the 65 RI Deluxe Reverb for 19 years. and replaced it with this. The amp exceeds my expectations. Although it has a lower list price that the 65 RI, it seems to be a better amp. It could be the speaker or transformer, but the bottom line is... I love it.
I am 70 years old, and doing gigs since 1961. this year I'll do about 80 gigs. Believe me, I started with a Fender tweed Vibrolux in one hand and a Jazzmaster in the other. Today when my band shows up 5 musicians all with SUVs start unloading with carts to haul all this stuff. I tell you this 'cause im buying equipment all my life and this is a good amp, and at a good price. I baught mine from Musiaians Friend and it arrived 2 days early. ….I will add Fender Tilt Back Legs.

1st amp had problem with reverb circuit / MF sent a 2nd amp right away
custom side has great tone with the bassman tone stack and rev/vib on both channels.vintage side super clean. haven't got the speaker broke in yet .
This is the first time i dealt with MF and they treated me as if they were right down the street. and the warranty issue was no issue at all. Also this is the first time i ever bought a new amp and am not disapointed

Comments about Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp with Celestion G12V-70 Speaker:

This Fender amp is a joy to play and own.The tonal versatility is impressive. The construction quality of the amp is top notch and so is the silverface trim.

This amp can cover rock, blues, country, jazz,or pop styles. There's a special magic to the sound this amp puts out and it has great harmonic character.

The speaker does a great job of keeping the tone alive, balanced and strong. Having loads of vintage Fenders to compare it with and having been a player for 48 years I think it stands on it's own merit and is a worthy addition to the Fender line. It's a real winner.
