A fascinating variation on the tweed '57 Twin amp with a switchable power attenuator.

In a historic collaboration, Fender introduces its first artist signature amplifiers-EC Series amps bearing the name of legendary guitarist Eric Clapton.

Built to the exacting specifications of Clapton himself, the EC Twinolux is a fascinating variation on the tweed '57 Twin amp and Fender's answer to his call for a special model with several distinctive features. Handmade in the United States with '50s-era output tube bias tremolo (which produced a more throbbing pulse than later Fender tremolo circuits) and a switchable power attenuator (reduces speaker output and can disable one speaker for even lower output), it presents the pinnacle of personally inspired amp tone for stage and studio alike and is a must for Clapton fans and guitarists who want the ultimate in tube performance.

Features include hand-wired all-tube circuitry on eyelet board with premium components; circuit based on late-'50s Fender Twin amp model 5E8-A (about 40 watts); single channel with high-gain and low-gain inputs; tremolo with speed and intensity controls (can be selected with included footswitch); dual Special Design 12" Weber® speakers (by Eminence®) with alnico magnets for dynamic, sensitive response; two Groove Tubes® 6L6GE output tubes, four 12AX7 preamp tubes and two 5U4 rectifier tubes; Mercury Magnetics custom transformers; finger-joined solid pine enclosure for warm, resonant tone; lacquered tweed covering with vintage-style brown/gold grille cloth and leather strap handle. Deluxe fitted cover included.

The '57 Twin Reissue is different than the EC Twinolux, see specifications, that is why I own Both. I use the '57 Twin Reissue with a Tube Tremolo & Tube Reverb on the front end, the EC Twinolux "Vibrato" offers a great twist - see pro reviews - the Attenuator should be an option on all Fender Proline Amplifiers, I use an older Gibson Attenuator with other amplifiers - the Attenuator in the Fender is very nice!
Bottom Line, it is natural to try and compare the '57 Twin Reissue with the EC Twinolux - they "pretty much" look the same - they sound very different, both amplifiers do, however, resonate without being loaded with reverb.
If Harmonics and Definition are what you want, you will find both in each amplifier, each being different from the other.

Comments about Fender Eric Clapton Signature EC Twinolux 40W 2x12 Hand-Wired Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have about 15 amps but this is my favorite now. It's clarity is astounding and the sound is unique.
The tremolux adds a depth to the tone much like reverb which I agree with most other reviewers, is not really required. The only con is the cost. Worth it if you can afford it.

It's better than the Fender Super reverb amp (which is a good one).

Comments about Fender Eric Clapton Signature EC Twinolux 40W 2x12 Hand-Wired Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have spent about 3 hours with this amp in a room at a local boutique guitar store here in Chicago. In this room was the best boutique amps in this price range on the market. I was sampling a Space pedal by Eventide. This amp, to my ear shines above all of these Boutiques. EC has a life time of playing these amps and he has this one tweeked to perfection. The sensitivity, the sag the ease as which you can dial the break up point with your volume, the clean the dirty and I might add the volume. Definitely would cover any venue from country, blues, rock, jazz, hard rock to fusion. Obviously not a high gainer but you could use it a a reference for a good high gain pedal and mike it to the PA. This would likely be the only amp for you to develop your touch around for every thing you do. The brake is a great tool. You can get seriouos in your face overdrive at low volume. Nice. In my world you find the best, buy it, get it paid for and forget what you paid as your art gets better and better. Thanks EC for making this the best of the twins!

Comments about Fender Eric Clapton Signature EC Twinolux 40W 2x12 Hand-Wired Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I can only agree on the previous review. This amp is luxury.
Appearance: The fabrication is really done well. The tolex job is very precise and I just love the 50' look. My wife lets me have it in our living room!!
Sound: Well, the amazing thing is that I almost never touch the tone controls. What surprised me most was the definition in the lower ranges. E.g. playing simple cords with open strings and no barring just sounds fantastic. Even a hard strumming will not brake this definition. You can hear every single string ring. And I do mean ring. I was just about to buy a reverb pedal with the amp, however, the dealer suggested that I waited and just started using the amp. He was right. This ringing, highly defined sound makes the reverb dispensable for most uses.
You cannot get an extremely bright sound as from e.g. the Bassman amp. Another thing is that the amp sounds good at any level. Even at the very lowest volume. So in fact, it is possible to play the amp without the power attenuator. If you want to crank it up in the living room to break the sound you will be happy with this option.
I mostly play my Stratocaster with hand wound 50' type pickups. It also sounds fantastic with my Les Paul 57 custom shop reissue. In fact, I think it probably does not matter what instrument you connect as long as the quality is ok.
Another thing I noticed is that I have started using the tone controls on the guitar. This used to be quite challenging for my old amp (Blues Junior). Now it just ads to the tonal possibilities I have now.
I started this review by saying that I hardly use the tone controls which is true. But, they actually do change the sound a lot and does not in any way compromise the sound quality. I think you can turn the tone controls to any extreme and any combination and still maintain a usable sound.

              Good Job EC and Fender!

              Fender EC Twinolux

Comments about Fender Eric Clapton Signature EC Twinolux 40W 2x12 Hand-Wired Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I can't get over how "musical" this amp is. It responds so well to your pick attack. Honestly, I love EC, but this amp does way more than EC. It does blues and rock and even into heavy rock tones. I am blessed enough to be able to, and have bought a lot of gear over the years. I have always loved fender. This amp just really seems to combine everything great about fender from the 50's-today. (They should be paying me for this great review.) After playing for twenty years, I feel my ear for good tone has matured. I am very happy with this amp. I think a lot of other people will be too. I know this amp is very new, and there are not a lot of owner reviews yet. I thought I would help and put my honest opinion out there.
One of the things I was worried about this amp before I bought it was, no reverb. I have been playing for 20 years and I have always "relied" on reverb. What I mean is, I think that it is something that is just put on so many amps, we always use it as guitar players. The trem on the amp is fantastic. I don't miss the reverb at all. The power break is great, it basically gives you all three ec amps in one. I play blues and classic rock, this amp nails the tone that I want. The only thing I wish it had was an on/off light on the trem footswitch.
It is a great amp. 3k is a lot of money, but I am happy with my purchase, so I guess that makes it a 10?
