A few things from previous reviews that are dead wrong:
- It has a compressor.
- You can assign what patch comes up when it's turned on (and don't know why you'd turn it off on a set break, not like the tubes are getting warm).
- If you want a line out, it has it - use the FX loop send. You don't have to mute the power amp with headphones.

This unit simply sounds good. Ignoring what type of power amp, the presence of glowing glass bottles, or whatever, it just sounds decent. Right out of the box, it's easy to dial in useful sounds. USB record out is a nice feature, and each patch has a USB gain so you can have a seperate master boost for it in record mode without messing up the balance of your patches relative to one another for 'using the speakers now' sounds.

Amp models are relatively convincing, but that's not what matters to me. What matters is "does it sound good?" and it delivers, especially with some tweaking. I have other modellers and options, including a much more expensive Roland GR-55 (which is amazing but it's not an amp), but the Mustang works to quickly dial in a useful amp sound with basic effects.

The basic effects thing must be noted. The included stompboxes range from embarassing (the pitch shifter, it's a throwback to 80s bad without the control that modern units should have) to quite good (spring reverbs and echoes). That said, the fuzz is as bad as most digital fuzzes, you won't be pitching your external stompboxes here, especially if you like some of the modern abusive oscillating fuzz stuff available.

But that's ok, the amp takes pedals well, from my venerable tape-based Space Echo to the Ampeg Scrambler. The problem, though, is that the amp's effects loop is post-USB, so you won't be using that for recording anything post-amp on the included interface, and rendering it sort of useless except as a line out to a board, mixer, or other recording interface. Also, the effects loop cannot be moved - it's post-all preamp, all modellers, all everything but the power amp, post USB - and that's how it is.

That said, the thing sounds good. And with the included 4 button fuotswitch, I couldn't see the point of buying a Mustang Floor even if it would primarily be used as a recording tool and almost never see a speaker load.

It's easy to use, sounds good, and is as cheap as some of the pedals I'm using (and doubles as a backup amp). What's not to like?

It's hard to give it a 6 after all the great comments and it really really really is a great amp. HOWEVER, judging it against all competition, it still has compared to the great amps. But for a halfstack, I would rate it a 15.
For the money, no questions asked, you won't find a more complete product. The amp itself is very easy to use with or without computer configuration. It's dummy proof so you'll get beautiful tone right from the first power up.
I'm using this amp to gig with my band. I'm still undecided about using it over my hot rod deluxe for more power. The tone is very good, but it's def better at lower volumes. So when you crank it, you'll lose some tone. That being said, for they money and probably more there's no better amp.

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

This is a phenomenal value for the price. The Fender tones sound great. The hi gain models sound decent IMHO, especially for a modelling amp. This amp even has a decent tuner built in. I previously owned a Peavey Vypyr which has a lousy tuner.

It's not going to replace your Dual Rectifier or your 65 Twin, but if you don't have any of that stuff, this is a great place to start, get a lot of different quality sounds. Best modelling amp IMO.

One Caveat, If you don't already have a high quality cabinet that is stereo capable, I'd probably go with the mustang IV. the speakers built into the IV are much better than the ones built into the matching cabinet for this head.

    A solid amp for versitility!

    By kamakazeeboom

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

Other than the lack of a xlr output to feed into a mixing board/PA system for balancing out the instruments, it is a solid amp. Been using mine for a about 6 months and it performs flawlessly- the 4-button switch pedal is plenty; however the 2 button pedal allows you some versatility above and beyond the 4-button alone- you can assign the values from the amp head's menu/screen to each switch. The range of this amp coupled with a traditional electric and a acoustic with a jack is almost endless. For the money, you can't beat it- not to mention that it IS a Fender. I have mine hooked up to the matching cab and it is plenty loud for most applications. I currently have the amp head hooked into a mixing board via the headphone jack; this is where the xlr output would be nice, since you just can't hook up a hot speaker output into a mixing system without frying something.

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

Well, First let me say that I am a late comer to Tube technology-before that I've used Line 6/fender and other less known solid states with either an effects board or whatever is built in- When you actually get to use a tube amp you just know there is no comparison- but with it-if you want effects- you need extra cords and pedals and just a whole slew of stuff to create your unique sound. Not to mention the kid gloves you need to wear when taking care of the thing.I gave The Mustang V HD a 4.5 over all only because there are those folks out there that can get better tone with other equipment(they know who they are)But I won't be ashamed when I take this to jam with those types/ or play out at a gig with this amp.I can honestly say -I'm glad this amp wasn't around 10 years ago or I never would have moved up to a tube amp- It's that good- it's very easy to use and the pre sets are just amazing- I plug mine into a custom 2x12(stereo) speaker and it's about as close as you can get to the actual amp/setting they are giving you here.eric johnson/steve vai/eddie VH/Michael Shenker/Mick Ronson- all there and all sound very good, the only legendary guitarist that they fell short on imo was Robin Trower-but I see where they were going and this can be tweaked and saved by the user. They've added a tuner/foot pedal and plenty of effects and have given us the perfect amp for gigs where you don't want to haul all a bunch of stuff with you. They are giving line6 a real run for the money with price point/ease of use/and quality here- I will have no problems using this amp on half of the gigs I do from now on- as stated before- for you tube amp guru's you are still going to find that when the volume is turned up or on some of the dirty channels your going to fall just short of the 'tube' sweet spot. but the clean channels I have to say-- oh man-- very nice. One thing that really amazed me is that when high gain was being used with a serious output leveland lots of effects- I didnt get that ugly noise and un controllable feedback that most set ups give you when pushed. It never got out of control.. and thats' something that alot of people take for granted-Don't let the price fool you- this amp is not just for beginners- I have a new found respect for Fender now- We'll done gents.

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

The Mustang V amp head has been great for me, and the price is excellent. Overall, it's fairly light in weight, has an excellent sound, and presets are pretty good right out of the box.
I also own a Marshall JVM210, a Marshall 4x12 cab, and a Marshall 2x12 cab. I've used the Mustang V with both Marshall cabs, and it sounds great. Got tired of the JVM's hum at practice and tired of lugging it around - it's much heavier. Now, for band practice, I've got my Mustang V mic'd up through the Marshall 4x12 cab, and we get an excellent sound mix.
The rhythm guitarist in our band bought a Mustang III for the same purpose. Overall, we've found the mods/effects to be very good. We primarily play Christian rock with some metal influence, but we also play a number of slower, softer arrangements as well. This amp head does a good job with it all.
I will probably continue to use my Marshall JVM for live performances, but I couldn't ask for a better backup than this for the price. I've been very happy with it.

I purchased the Fender Mustang V HD head and 4x12 speaker cab on 01/29/11 and I can't find one thing bad to say about it. It's easy to understand all the function it offeres, and the best thing about it is that it is quiet, (there is no hum when you are not playing). I will be using this amp for gigs and jam sessions and I know it will hold up. Thanks Fender

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

I've gone through all of the presets and can say I'm not a fan of many of them, however you can tweek them to the point where they are exactly what you want. At first it was a little overwhelming to go through all the sounds but it didn't take long to set the presets in order to the tones and effects I really wanted. The four button footswitch is an awesome bonus too, with the built in tuner and the ability to switch on or off 3 effects make gigging alot easier. Adding your own stomps makes it even better. The stereo is sweet for recording, you can't lose with this amp, and if you want a tube amp, then buy a tube amp. For any solid state amp fans you won't regret it.
You can do almost anything with this amp. The tones are endless.
You're not going to find an amp with this much power and sound anywhere close to the price!

Its an awesome product, just go for it. you know you want to
You get 100 presets, the default channel is a liquid solo that I changed to a clean. Who wants to hear distortion when they first turn on the amp? lol. Anywho the software that you can download is top notch and you can find some pretty toneworthy channels.
Its not gonna sound great when youre trying to outplay a loud drummer, wouldnt really crank it past 5, it just gets a little sloppy and screachy. for most gigs you would want it hooked up to a mic. Its awesome for studio work and awesome for your bedroom too.
Its not as good as my main b-52 tube rig, but this does pretty nicely for its price

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

This is in my humble opinion the wave of the future. Simplify your life and pick one of these up. You will be glad that you did. And these words are coming from a tube amp addict.
I have only had my Mustang V for about a week but really like it. I bought it because I am 'over' hauling around my heavy tube amps, pedal boards, and reverb boxes. I really like my tube amps but I needed to simplify my gigging life. I used the mustang a few days ago at rehearsal for the first time with a 2x12 fender cabinet. It worked great. After only checking it out beforehand for about 2 hours I was able to dial in some great tones, reverb, overdrive etc without any frustration or hassle's. I felt less stressed without having to set up my pedal board. The onboard tuner is great. The clean channels are fine. My two band mates were also impressed which was a concern of mine. They are use to me sounding a certain way either through my Fender twin or one of my old bassman heads with cabs or music man combos. I was able to dial in all my usual tones in just moments. Very cool. I won't have to worry about any of our regular fans coming up to me and complaining that I sound different. And my back won't hurt after a gig either. Far Out Dudes. Way to go Fender!
For this price the quality is great!
This amp can not be beat. Its great fun and has a lot of potential to dial in your tone without pedals.
For the money I think it is a must have amp for the gigging musician.

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

I bought the Fender Mustang V as a backup to my Marshall JVM 410 which weighs a ton. I use the Mustang to carry back and forth to studio sessions. It's super light weight and 150 watt power with all the effects and tuning built right in make it a very capable amp. The band even teases that it sounds better then the Marshall. I don't think I would go there, however it's annoyingly close for such a price difference! The fact is, if the Marshall were to blow a capacitor, which it has several times already, I would not have a second thought of dialing the Mustang in for backup performance duty. Don't be afraid to use this amp for anything you need.

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

I purchased this as a replacement for my Line 6 Spider II amp that I've had for 5+ years. I was on the fence on whether to buy the Spider IV half stack or the Mustang V. I eventually went with this and I'm pretty confident I made the right decision. Right off the bat, I noticed the presets are pretty well done. And it was very easy to adjust and edit one to find the right tone. This is insanely affordable for the quality you get. It's one of the better half stacks I've played. I like the fact you can connect the amp via usb to the computer and adjust the settings on there instead of the display screen on the head. Obviously it only comes in handy when a computer is 3 feet next to the amp. Kinda hard to squeeze a computer in a tiny practice space. Better the dialog screen on the head does just fine. My only few gripes with this is that the distortion seems to not as much power as other heads. But hey, it's enough to get by especially with the cheap price tag. And I don't like how the input jack on the head is on top. I feel like my cord tugs it too much and eventually will losen the jack inside.

Really not too much else to say that other reviewers have already said. This is a great purchase. That is all.

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

Once you learn the amp, you probably could use it in a live situation. However, I would feel comfortable on stage and would rather use one of my tube amps with pedals. On the side, I thin it will be great in a recording enviorement. This is only my review and doesn't mean I'm 100% right. It can get really loud, and get a pretty good dark metal sound.
In order to establish myself as a person who knows a little about the equipment used in playing music. I have a small recording studio, that have the following guitar amps in it:
Marshall JVM410H half stack, Fender Twin Reverb, Fender Deluxe Reverb, Fender Blues Jr. NOS, and a Vox AC151C. Each amp is all tube, and they are considered top of the line within the industry. Getting tired of setting up individual pedals, then taking them down, I started thinking about a modeling amp. Let me add, there are some songs that have to use individual stomp boxes. After trying out the Line 6 150 watt head, and a Peavey, I then tried this Fender Mustang V. After purchasing the amp head, I took it home and pluged it into my Marshall JCM900 Lead 1960 4 X 12 cabinet. Wow, I was amazed at how well Fender had done on their first amp of this nature. While there are 100 pre-sets, there are only 50 that you would want to use. Then again, this amp does many things that I am still learning. The modulation and other effects have allowed me to use this amp, and not have to set up individual pedals. It has some outstanding amp sounds, and they are really close in duplicating. It should be noted, I use this amp in the studio only.
Going by looks alone, the amp head is built really well. I haven't had it long enough to really know how it will do after hours of use.
The price is really good for this amp, just make sure you match it with a good cabinet.

Comments about Fender Mustang V HD 150W Guitar Amp Head:

It's a keeper, and very applicable for either live or studio use. If you're looking for a fantastic modeler at a bang for the buck price, look no further. Every tone and effect on this is usable and easily modified; I was programming it in 5 minutes without reading the manual. I rated a 9 only because it does not a compressor, which I think is a drawback for direct in recording.
I own a 6505, POD hd500 and this Mustang. Bought both primarily for direct silent PC recording. The Mustang just shines in every applicable area. Cranked through a cab, it sounds like 6505(which is why I bought it) plus sooo much more. Every preset is incredibly usable. With the POD I feel there are only one or two usable tones for me. The ease of use/programmability beats the POD as well. Direct in(which is why I bought it) sounds the same as what you hear through a cab... no surprises or hours of tweaking. Only drawback is that it does not have the "tube" responsiveness that the PODhd does. Overall I'm incredibly impressed and love every tone I can get out of this thing.
Too soon to tell, but it's got the Fender badge... initial quality is top notch. Hope it holds up over time without any errors, as with some other brands.
The tones and quality of sound you can get out of this for the price is incredible. I'm sure the price will go up at some point... grab it while you can. If I had the money I'd grab the matching cab too.

Fender you screwed this up. Never seen an amp go directly to effects when turned on. It's like a car that only starts in drive. If you come off break and turn it on it goes to overdrive and blows the audience into the next room! You have to dial up to a clean channel! No preset when it comes on. I'm returning it
