I was trying out some guitars at the local guitar barn and plugged into the closest amp. It seemed like every guitar sounded really good that day. My attention turned to the amp, it was the Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb. It had been a long time since I heard an amp that sounded like that, not since the early '70's when I first started playing guitar and owned some old beat up Fender tweed style amp. I left with a guitar that day but couldn't get that amp off my mind. On my next trip to the guitar barn I was browsing and saw a slightly used Deluxe Reverb with a very nice discount. I plugged into it and back came the memories of my first amp again. The warm clear sound, the sound you only hear on records from the 60's. I've always bought nice guitars but skimped on a good amp, then it hit me....I NEED THIS AMP! I got it home and started plugging different guitars into it, they all sounded good. I own 40 or so guitars and everything I threw at it sounded so good. It was easy to dial in beautiful tones. I've spent a lot of money on guitars, pickups, pots, caps, hardware, and other upgrades but nothing helped more than finding an amp that compliments the guitar plugged into it. All my single coils, humbucker's, hollow bodies, solid bodies sound good. I did some research to see what makes this amp tick...Made in USA, tube reverb, tube vibrato, tube rectifier (had to look up what that meant!) BUT only 22 watts? Guess that doesn't matter because this amp can get loud but not overpowering. I think maybe the Jensen C-12K has a lot to do with the overall sound. This amp gets a lot of glowing reviews and I can see why. I use the basic pedals with it, a tube screamer for overdrive, and delay when needed for rockabilly or for some subdued slapback, but no need for a pedal for reverb or tremolo, the built in ones are too good to use anything else. The stuff my group plays is easily covered from Jazz to Country, Blues, Classic Rock it does it all very well. Maybe not heavy metal but I don't do any of that so who knows. NOTE: It doesn't have an overdrive channel, no mid controls, no bright switch, BUT I think this makes the amp easy to dial in the sound it has, sometimes less is more.

I own 2 two of these and they are as reliable as you can get in a pro tube amp. I can gig anywhere with the DRRI and I use two for larger venues. I like mine stock and the only times I have modded any amp is the speaker only. I never try to mod the circuitry. If the amp isn't right don't buy it. The DRRI delivers right out of the box. Give the Jensen CK-12 time to break in and you'll like it.
Low rating because the Output transformer was missing one of two screws to hold it in place and apparently the missing screw was never installed. No problem as I've fixed things like this before but not in a new, supposedly inspected, amp.
This amp is one of the best value for the buck amps out there. I've paid the same and gotten less in other amps.

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Deluxe Reverb Guitar Combo Amp:

The amp is designed to be run on 5 or higher. 6-7 is the sweet spot. Never mind all the myths you read online about the tubes, stock speaker, etc. Go with it stock and break it in at blue-collar volumes. The stock GT 6v6's are rebadged JJ's - same tube, I promise. Hit the front end with quality overdrive and whatever else strikes your fancy, then revel in the warm 3D overtones. Remember, channel 2 is a different animal and has a very bright character until the volume is past 5, then it's very close to channel 1 in tone. If you're using effects and cannot turn up very loud with your band, use channel 1. It is fuller and warmer at lower volumes. Enjoy!

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Deluxe Reverb Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is so amazing, I'm giving it 5 stars even though I had a couple issues (both fixable).

First: There is a service bulletin about the tremelo. Mine sounded like a motorboat. A tech fixed it under warranty. No charge.

Second: Unless your amp is virtually silent at idle (as it should be), chances are there are some bad pre amp tubes. I was hearing an annoying hiss in both channels and a bad hum in the reverb. Got on the inter- webs and looked for suggestions - Result -put Stevie Ray's fave 5751 in V1 and V2 (This immediately got rid of the "too bright" sound and warmed the overall tone.)

Stuck balanced NOS Mullard 12AT7s in V3 (reverb driver) and V6 (Phase Inverter).
Also replaced V4 (reverb return) with a better version of what was in there. Didn't touch V5. Also didn't touch power tubes or rectifier.

The first time I played this thing with the new tubes I wanted to weep. Every bit as delicious as my Silver Face Princeton. And just as quiet at idle. It has taken it's rightful place as my favorite amp.

There are a lot of haters out there who want to mud mouth anything with a PCB - I guess because the originals were point to point hand wired... but this thing is unreal sounding. And, if the circuit board ever does take a dump after the warrant expires, I will have somebody do a PTP hand wire on it and I guess it will be same as the original then.

So, yeah, it took a little effort to get this thing where I wanted but I have been handsomely rewarded. I will try to find a way to take this one with me when I go. LoL.

Best Clean sound you can get

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Deluxe Reverb Guitar Combo Amp:

For any clean sound that you use, this is the amp to buy. Period.

I bought the Marshall JVM 205 2x12 combo and plugged it in with a Whirlwind A/B box alongside the Fender '65. (Yes, I know they are different amps with different voicing and different uses... I get all that.)

My hope was to use the Fender for my clean and dial in some tasty dirty sounds with the Marshall. But there was no comparison in tonal quality. The Fender just crushed the Marshall. Not even close. I turned every knob on that Marshall for 2 solid days on the clean channel and compared to the Fender, it just sounded tinny, small, thin and cheap. Yes, I realize the Marshall is a modeling amp. But considering all the positive reviews about great tone and the price, I thought the two amps would be somewhat comparable in just pure tonal quality. Nope.

The Fender sounds rich, thick and full and the sound is right there. It sounds professional. The Marshall just sounded small and thin and cheap. With a Gibson Les Paul on the Rhythm pickup, the Fender sounds downright heavenly. Plenty loud. I play at less than 2 on the volume. Anything past 2 shakes my windows.

If you use any clean sounds at all... and we all do.. then this amp has the best sounds I've found in 25 years of tinkering. Should have bought it a long time ago.

I sent the Marshall back. And I appreciate Musicians Friend being cool about it and even paying for the return shipping. Very cool. They'll get that money back later.

My search goes on for a dirty sound. But I've found my clean. And I think I'm a Fender convert. They all just sound bigger and fuller and more "real" than anything else out there. And they're usually half the price, too.

Buy this amp and set it up with an A/B pedal side by side with any other amp you want and compare them. You'll see what I mean.

I bought this amp from a buddy of mine at a great price. I use this for clean sounds with a strat and a tele. I use a Marshall TSL601 for distortion. The 22 watts in this amp is load as hell. I use it on stage and in the man cave studio. Turn this amp up and you get a great old sounding crunch. I mic it up for larger venues. I am a bit frustrated that the reverb tank and footswitch had to be replaced after 2 years. I have owned many amps in my life and I am not sure I will ever part with this one.

Ordered Deluxe Reverb on Mon 12/17 recieved 12/19.
Sent back on 12/19. Loud hum on normal channel with nothing plugged in with all other settings on 0. As usual MF rep was helpful to solve the problem by getting the process moving to return the amp. MF did their job. Why didn't Fender do theirs? This one got by QC... someone was nodding or more likely supervisors were getting their numbers for the day. Been there, seen that many times. Had a original "65" in "72". Sound is still true...

This amp is awesome. I bought it about two years ago and I haven't regretted it since. The features are simple, a normal channel and vibrato. I play out of the vibrato because i love the reverb this thing has. The clean tone on this amp cannot be beat. I play with a strat and an ES-335. I play mostly blues, jazz, and rock and this can do it all, however, to get a solid overdrive tone you will need an OD pedal. This is a perfect amp for what I use it for and if you are looking for amazing clean tone then this is a good buy.
