The AFX Chorus pedal includes 8 effect presets: 3 choruses, 2 tremolos, flanger, phaser, and rotary speaker. The Fishman AFX Chorus is a richly-voiced, pro chorus pedal. I purchased this pedal to add chorus to my live acoustic set-up and thicken my finger-picking tone. I was very pleased with the 3 chorus effects but thought the other 5 effects weren't as strong. The pedal is very well-made and is extremely quiet although I found a slight decrease in overall volume when engaged. The pedal is designed to add the effects in parallel as to not color your dry tone. The Level, Tone and Speed settings allow you to dial-in the perfect sound. I was surprised at how great the chorus sounded through my electric guitar. This pedal is not cheap so I may consider testing a lower priced chorus since I have limited use for the tremolo, flanger and phaser.
I used to route my acoustic through a chorus unit designed more for electric guitars. Although it sounded okay, I didn't fully appreciate how great a chorus could sound on an acoustic until I bought the Fishman chorus. I use the unit with my Taylor, Alvarez-Yairi, and Takamine guitars. The unit has stereo outputs, and I run them to a stereo rig. It sounds incredibly smooth and full. The three chorus settings are well thought out by Fishman, as they provide distinct options in sculpting sounds. Likewise, the flanger, phaser, tremolo, and rotary speaker settings also work well. Although not necessary, I would recommend running the guitar through a Fishman Aura before routing it through the Fishman chorus. The Aura pedal allows you to have a really nice acoustic tone and gives more sound options for your creativity. The chorus is build very solid and is handsome and intuitive in design. I do feel the price is too high, but in all, it's been a good investment.
I have been playing live for about 21 years, recording for 27 years. I have both the Chorus pedal, and the Delay pedal and I will be purchasing the Reverb pedal. These pedals are sweet in the studio and on the road. The Chorus is goes from a creamy flowing to a almost a clean spring sound, the flanger has smooth sweeping tone, without the noise of most flanger pedals, the vibrado is the cleanest I've ever heard even out of the rack units and the construction is like a tank. Clean, smooth, and balanced is the best way I can describe this pedal. The stereo out is a nice touch too. This pedal will make you smile every time you kick it on.
I have been looking for a digital effect pedal for my acoustic guitars that would create similar effects that I have known with Electro-Harmonix pedals: simple to use and excellent effects. The Fishman?s AFX Chorus pedal is that digital pedal. No complicated manual comes with the AFX Chorus pedal: you plug in your guitar; select the effect you want; adjust your tone, level, and speed; and play your favorite song. The effect gives you 3 choruses, 2 tremolos a flanger, a phaser, and rotary speaker as well as tone, level, and speed. The flanger and phaser remind me of the Electric Mistress and Small Stone. The chorus is equivalent to the one on my Crate Amp. It doesn?t sound artificial or tinny. When I first used the Chorus Pedal, I tried the flanger. After trying different settings, I settled for the one that was similar to my analog pedal. I am looking forward learning about and playing with the Fishman?s AFX Chorus Pedal. It is a great pedal for the money and the effects.
