OVERVIEW

Monster tone in a tiny box.

The Friedman Pink Taco is the baby sister to the critically acclaimed BE-100, created for the many musicians who have been begging for the Friedman sound in a small, compact, lightweight, manageable format.

The Pink Taco is a super versatile hand-wired, 20-watt, EL84 powered, single channel fire breather that is capable of producing many styles of music from blues to classic rock to heavy metal by merely adjusting the gain and master controls.

Many people don't believe a 20-watt amp can deliver the tight bottom end and midrange that a 100-watt amp can produce. The Pink Taco proves otherwise! Friedman designed this amp to sound like a 100-watt monster, utilizing custom transformers and the cleanest possible signal path.

Plug into the Pink Taco and you will instantly notice the harmonically rich detailed chords and resonating single note lines. This amp cleans up exceptionally well with the guitar's volume knob, even with the amp on higher gain settings.

The Pink Taco was designed to take pedals well and loves boosts, OD's, phasers, flangers, tremolos, wahs. The brand new ultra transparent series effects loop takes time-based effects pedals and rack units equally well. The handcrafted in USA Pink Taco features beautiful black tolex, tongue and groove Baltic Birch construction and built to withstand the rigors of the road.

Handwired in the USA.

Comments about Friedman Pink Taco 20-Watt Hand-Wired Head:

The other reviews are not exagerating, this really is an amazing amp. Any concerns about power on this can be dismissed. I played a large Theatre recently with the volume on 4. I was almost a bit too loud. Regular gig volume is about 2-3.

The tone is absolutely exceptional for Classic Rock but it's also surprisingly versatile. Turn up the gain and scoop the mids and you are presented with a great Thrash sound. Turn the mids up a bit for AIC type grunge. For me though the sweet spot is Bass 10, Mid 4-5, Treble 8 with Gain on 8. Rich harmonics and a real clarity to the tone that often gets lost. I use an OD Pedal to give it some more balls to when needed and use the volume pots to clean it up. That's it. Tone. SORTED!

This has genuinely changed the way I play. At first I was a little concerned that moving from a 3 channel amp to a single channel would be limiting, but within half an hour of my first gig with it I realised I'd been doing it wrong all these years. I'm not having to go stamping around the floor and can concentrate on my playing. You don't even need to touch the volume pots that often either as this is so responsive to your playing that just using a lighter touch is often enough to get a clean tone.

The other thing to consider with this amp is that if like me you like to collect guitars, it gives you a great excuse to expand your collection! It highlights the tone of the guitar you're using unlike any other amp i've ever used. I've got 2 Les Pauls, (A trad and a Custom) and you can really hear the difference between the two on this.

So stop reading this and just buy one.

Comments about Friedman Pink Taco 20-Watt Hand-Wired Head:

I have been playing guitar and chasing tone for 30 years and this is the best sounding amp I have ever owned or played.. For a 20 Watt amp this thing is very loud.. It can deliver gain for days if that's want you want and cleans up nicely when you back off your volume knob. The high gain tone isn't overly compressed like some other high end amps. The tone knobs actually do something when you adjust them so there you can dial in a lot of diffent tones.. Sounds great at low volumes too but trust me.. It sounds so good it's hard not to crank it up! I'm currently running it through and old Marshall 1960a with GT75s.

I also currently own a Soldano HR50+, Blackstar HT60 and have owned Marshall JCMs, Peavey 5150s, Mesa Dual Rect.

Comments about Friedman Pink Taco 20-Watt Hand-Wired Head:

Great amp. This is my second time owning this model. The original one was great but I really wanted 2 channels so I sold it. After failing to find anything that came close to the tone and portability of this amp, I had to get another one. It's very close to the big brother BE100 which I've also owned. Aside from the lack of a clean channel or boost, it's perfect for what it does. Everything from slightly edgy clean plexi to hot rodded 80s metal tones. It's got a thickness and warmth to the single notes that's better to me than any other hot rodded m style amp. It's also got that classic upper mid crunch that's not too brittle like some plexi style amps can be. Also very touch sensative and with the volume knob you can get a lot of tones without touching the amp. The loop is also very good and you don't miss it not having any level controls, etc.
