Best Amp I've Owned

By Bronchick

from Denver, CO

Comments about Fryette Memphis Thirty M30C 30W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Overall, the only amp that comes close is the Bogner Shiva, but that weighs 75 lbs and doesn't give you the versaility of this amp. If you have a Strat, you will especially love this amp if you do blues and classic rock.
For features, this gets a SOLID TEN. You've got two channels, both of which overlap a bit so it's not just CLEAN and DIRTY. The clean channel goes from sparkling clean to a little gritty. It has its own boost, which gives you a semi-clean lead (Stray Cats come to mind?). What's nice is you can boost the first channel and just turn down your volume a little to do rhythm for a different tone.

Second channel really shines, from bluesy to very crunchy. Step on the boost on the second channel and hold onto your BUNNS!!! It SCREAMS. With the Strat you get SRV, with the humbuckers you get Angus (but turn down the volume on your guitar a bit, and you get Jimmy!).

Very versatile amp. Cross between a Vox AC30 and a JCM 800.
Haven't owned it long enough, but seems solid.
Costs a few shillings, no doubt, but worth it for the tone and versatility.

The perfect all around Amp

Comments about Fryette Memphis Thirty M30C 30W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I`ve played guitar for many moons and can honestly say the Memphis is one killer all around amp
it has the elements of a twin reverb / Hiwatt / Marshall / Orange all tied into one great sounding amp!
it`s the little things like the comfy carry handle that makes life easier when gigging and the flat out great (and juicy) sounding AR series speaker as well as it being maybe the loudest 112 combo I`ve ever used, oh and it`s easy to carry too..get one, you will not be disappointed
This is my second Fryette product, after spending over 17 years with my old trusty VHT Pittbull 112,
the new Memphis made me trade it in!
the amp features 2 completely useable channels, 1 clean 1 high gain, each channel offers a 1/2 power option and mini 3 way voicing switches, these are very useful for shaping your sound
the reverb on this amp sounds fantastic as well..very natural and pleasing
the last Pittbull I had was a tube cannibal, they don`t call it a Pittbull for nothing I guess!!
I`m a guitar instructor as well as a week end warrior so I`m happy to say I`ve had the amp for well over a year now and have not changed 1 tube, that there says a lot, between teaching and playing I put a ton of hours on this amp, as far as build quality this amp will stand the test of time, judging from my last Pittbull, I`m really happy with how well it behaves for me
Fryette amps are priced accordingly so you will get what you pay for my friend

Faulty Tubes/ Faulty Customer Service

By Voodoo Mike

from Nashville, TN

Comments about Fryette Memphis Thirty M30C 30W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Fryette Memphis Thirty M30C. I read some very good reviews about Fryette's customer service before buying this amp, but since owning have found their customer service to be severely lacking. Bought this amp new Jan 2011. Had issues with the preamp tubes immediately. The four 12AX7AC (China Selected) preamp tubes are crap. I've been in contact with Fryette's customer service off and on for the past 4 months regarding this issue. They have acknowledge that the tubes are crap and have told me that they are waiting on a shipment from a different manufacturer before sending me a replacement. They've had a lot of issues with the stock tubes that come with these amps. It is now April, almost May and still no tube replacement. I bought my own Tung-Sol 12ax7's and replaced the faulty tubes and my amp sounds Awesome now. If you've got the money to spend on this amp, and you don't mind replacing the tubes upon receiving, then I would recommend this amp.

Great Sound and very versitile

Comments about Fryette Memphis Thirty M30C 30W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp covers a lot of sonic territory! There is not enough room here to do this amp justice. Cleans can go from warm and mellow to spanking to mild overdrive. The voice switch really changes the character of the channel and the tone controls work well. Drive can go from clean up to modern rock distortion. Same goes for the voice switch; lots of options here. Hit the boost switch and the drive channel becomes a whole new beast. It not only adds gain, but changes the character of the sound as well, it's much more aggressive. This amp responds very well to how you play. Changes in volume or pick attack are rewarded with a sound that follows your every move. The 30/18 power cut works well; it adds compression and changes the tone without a drastic drop in volume. The preamp tube access on the front is really cool as well. Changing tubes really makes a difference you can hear.My only gripe is that the reverb is pretty noisy. It has a nice sound, but adds hiss.
