OVERVIEW

Gives your signal chain the boost it needs to always sound its best.

The Fulltone 2B is an amazing boost pedal, born from the œBoost channel in Fultone's FD3 pedal. Fulltone took the circuit from the FD3 and crammed it into a much smaller enclosure (only 4.5" x 2.1" x 2.3") with a battery tucked tightly inside and space-saving rear-mounted IN, OUT, and DC power jacks.

Why does a guitarist need a œBoost pedal?
A boost pedal is not only used to kick up your volume when its time for your solo. A good booster can also solve a lot of problems in the modern guitarists rig, because todays pedal boards average eifght or more pedals, with each of those pedals requiring: a guitar cable--->jack--->more wire--->footswitch--->circuit--->footswitch again--->jack--->more wire---> and on to next pedal. Its no wonder so many guitarists have thin, crappy tone ... its a wonder theres any signal left after all the stuff a signal goes through.

Ever played through a 10 guitar cable straight into a great tube amplifier? The feel, the dynamics, the fat tone ... it all makes you want to play. Then you connect to your $5,000 forum-approved overpopulated pedal board and suddenly the sound is tiny, thin, with diminished lows, cardboard mids, and scratchy thin highs.

Here is also where a good booster comes in handy, because all that wire and all those connections reduce your signal by a measurable amount with each passing effect in your signal chain. Add a good booster and you can recoup a lot of that lost gain, tone, and reactive interplay between you and your lovely tube amp. Suddenly the "touch" is back.

But what happens when the booster is off?
Thats the problem with other boosters ¦ once theyre off, they cease to offer a high-quality unity-gain buffer to drive the long cables, so you end up having to buy two boosters, one set to "unity gain" and the other set to do your volume changes. A better solution is the 2B. Its unity-gain JFET amp buffers your signal when the pedal is turned off, and when the 2B is turned on; the only difference is now the GAIN knob comes into play allowing you to set the desired boost up to 20dB. This is what differentiates the 2B from the FD3s Boost Channel. The FD3 is true-bypass while the 2B has the added benefit of being buffered-bypass.

Why is the 2B a great booster?
Because Fulltone goes the extra mile to get the best JFET opamps. The problem with other boosters is that the more you turn them up, the more highs they add. Not the case with the 2B, there is a subtle roll-off of the harsh ultra-high frequencies as you roll the LEVEL knob clockwise past 12 oclock. Its subtle, you may not hear it, but you won't hear that shrill top end that other boosters can impart.

Whats the DYNAMICS knob?
2B offers something completely unique in the world of Boost pedals; a DYNAMICS knob. A subtle Germanium diode Limiter circuit that (as you turn the min-knob clockwise) starts to slightly alter the feel of the notes being played as well as subdue the harsh transient spikes which can overload your amps input. Those spikes can be fatiguing to your ears, to the amp, and to its speakers. Similar to using a limiter on the mix down of a song in the studio, the 2Bs DYNAMICS feature helps you keep your place in the live mix, like a very smart compressor. This feature can make even an œok amp feel responsive and juicy, and will keep you from distorting the amps input, a problem plaguing most booster pedals.

Good value, Good quality build

Comments about 2B Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

Very solidly built, and does what it is spposed to do. Lots of clean signal to hit the front end of your amp. It gives a bit of growl to the clean channel on my DSL 15c, and smooths out the unneeded rasp on the gain channel. Also a good buffer for the pedalboard. It doesn't do anything spectacular, but it's not supposed to.

I bought this to use on my wife's mandolin pedal board to use as a boost during mandolin breaks. Works great and doesn't use much real-estate and not noisey.

Comments about Fulltone 2B Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

If you don't use a lot of pedals, and just need a transparent Clean Boost, this is a great one---and the price is right. If you use a lot of effects chained up w/ patches and suspect you just need a Buffer to restore your high end etc, this is a great buffer, as well (and functions whether the Boost is employed or not). Actually, when you realize you're losing tone so much that you need a buffer, you'll usually find that you need a Boost (line driver) to get a fair signal into the front of your amp. This slender pedal (with its jacks all conveniently on the end!) is both boost and buffer. It's not a Glamorous pedal...it really works in support of the rest of your rig, making your entire set-up sound like it's supposed to. Uncle Hippiekarl sez: "If you have more than 5 effects chained up, you either have a buffer, or *need* one". Especially if one of them's a volume pedal, btw......

Hand made in US, and quality shows. Very sturdy, heavy construction. Lots of clean boost available, which is exactly what I was looking for. Runs off battery or AC adaptor, which is handy. This thing is built like a tank, and retains you tone when by=passed or on.
