Comments about Fulltone TTE Delay Effect Tube Tape Echo:
This is it!..the one, the only (tube) tape echo. Its the real thing, it sounds like any old proffesional grade tape echo. It also has an all-tube signal path. A digital delay is one thing, they are cheap and they work if you need one but they dont have the 3-D presence and the color of this fulltone unit. And there are tons of digital types and they all sound mostly the same. There is only 1 tape echo being made, the Fulltone. If you are into HI-FI sound processing for your playing and recording projects they cant be had any better than this one. These are one of a kind and I certainly hope they keep making them.
Comments about Fulltone TTE Delay Effect Tube Tape Echo:
Overall im giving this a nine, even though the (probably exccesive) high cost should knock it down to a 5. I dont give low ratings for high cost only, some things are just really expensive to make (like a Les Paul), but these are very simple devices, not really any more involved than a tube reverb device, and certainly in demand from people who want an option to digital mundanity. I really, really, really, wonder why Electroharmonix hasnt put their own version into production at about half the cost. They would clean up.
Its a tape delay; a couple of small motors with a little tube amplifier circuit, just like some 1950's gadegtry, before all that kind of stuff became transistorized (considered an overall improvement back then)
Its really nice, but then for 1100 bucks it had better be.
come on.....
Comments about Fulltone TTE Delay Effect Tube Tape Echo:
I love the concept and the sound, but, practically speaking, there is something basically flawed in the implementation of the idea--I am not sure that Fulltone is to blame--I just think the tape technology has limitations.
I had one for years. I love the tone of an echoplex, and at first, I was really smitten with the tone I could achieve. But, over time, even though I was as diligent as possible regarding maintenance and cleaning, the tone began to degrade. After about 3 years of use, maybe 1200 hours of playtime, I could not take it anymore and returned it to Fulltone, where they upgraded the circuit, checked everything out, replace the tubes. Still, the tone was marginally improved and I just could not take it any more and sold it off. I got an Empress delay and frankly, have found it to be a more useful device. Ultimately, I was disappointed with the Plex--and considering the expense, it is hard to justify.
Very well designed and assembled.
At first, the sound is killer--but, over time, it suffers old age senescence. This has to be the most expensive effect out there, and only Professionals can really justify it.
Comments about Fulltone TTE Delay Effect Tube Tape Echo:
Much has been written about the ethereal quality of the echos - they're amazing - and so much easier to use any digital pedal made. However, the quality and tone of the tube preamp with a full 25db of boost practically makes this worth the price. One listen and you will be wondering what you can sell to get this as your signal chain. Yes, as your entire signal chain - it's all you need.
Comments about Fulltone TTE Delay Effect Tube Tape Echo:
I have used one of the originals for many yearsand have not been able to match it's performance with any pedal yet. Your repeats are as full and warm as the original siganal. You really have to try one to hear what is missing from electronic digital or analog signals of your sound. Nothing reproduces it so exact as a tape. and the pre-amp is in a class of it's own. The price is very high because of the quality of echo repeats this gem can give you. If you love the old Robin Trower sound or Van Halen, run your guitar through one of these and you'll have to have one. That full sound just can't be gotten without a tape echo. Try it you'll like it.
Comments about Fulltone TTE Delay Effect Tube Tape Echo:
Do yourself a favor and stop wasting your time with digital & analog delay pedals and digital rack units. Just like a Leslie Simulator can not truly replicate the sound of a real Leslie. A digital modeler can not truly duplicate the tone of a Tape Echo unit. Trust me, I have owned several of them including the Line 6 DD4 and the T-Rex Replica. Prior to owning this echo, I was using a Chandler Digital Echo trough the loop of my Soldano SLO-100. I took the plunge and bought this baby about 3 years ago & I have never looked back. No pedal can do what this thing does. The vintage echoplex was too noisy and unreliable. Mike Fuller much improved on the design with this one. It has a great tone, very reliable. I gig about every weekend of the year and this unit has never let me down always worked and never failed. I?m still using the original tape too!
