I've been playing for a lot of years and because I'm older and smarter now I looked for a system that was straight forward with plenty of power and most of all these days portable. I found all of that with Gallien-Krueger. I use this head with a GK 410 4ohm NEO cabinet bi amped to get every bit of that power. This setup handles the low B of my Fender's and Lakland's with ease. (The 410 NEO is a powerful lightweight cabinet which I can actually lift and put in the trunk of my car all by myself without singing soprano.)I have never had a situation where I have ever felt as though I didn't have enough head room or that I couldn't hear myself on stage with this head. The sound guys all agree it has a great sound that is easy to work with and easily comes through in the mix. I always get compliments on my sound on every job especially from other players. I started out years ago with the GK 800RB and it served me well and most of all dependably for many years. As I got older and was able to afford boutique amps I did and I strayed away from GK spending big bucks looking for a better sound and never found it. Nobody gives more bang for the buck than GK does and none of those expensive amps were as well defined live with the sound such as this amp produces and most were not nearly as straight forward to use. This head is just straight forward clear defined bass tone with easy to use controls and no messing around. Just jack in and play. Enough said!

The GK1001 is a really good head with plenty of power and headroom. I was surprised it had that much of both with the GEO@8OHm cab. I usually play all tube Ampegs, but I really like this for clean audiohile headroom, especially for articulation and slap. Do yourself a favor and buy the 4-way cable directly from GK so you can bi-amp the head. You will be surprised how the amp comes to life.

I would have given it 4 stars instead of 3, but after all it is GK! Terrible quality problems with the 700 and 800RB. Few problems reported w/ the 1001 but I am distrusting enough to buy the Musician's Friend 3 year warranty. Like I said, it's not the 90's and this is GK

Unleash The Beast!

By Anonymous

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II 700/50W Biamp Bass Head:

Unleash the beast! I just bought this head a few days ago and hooked it up to my Neo 212-II cabinet, in which I bought as well. The beast has been unleashed! Here's my story. I'm the owner/bassist of my 10-piece band, that I formed in 1996. As for bass amps, I have a SWR 160 head, Ampeg B2 head w/4-10" cabinet, a David Eden CSX 300 combo, a Peavey cabinet w/15" and 2-6" tweeters, a Carvin 18" cabinet, and even an old vintage Sunn head w/tubes. Absolutely none of these, mixed or matched, came even close to the sound I'm getting from this GK rig. I put this head in a rack with a Squeeze compressor and a BBE maximizer, and oh my goodness! The high and low end is awesome, but don't cut yourself short by using this head with a cabinet that doesn't have the (horns/high end) if you want this head to serve it's full purpose. I connected a Sans Amp Tech 21 effects box for experimentation (more EQ), but it defeated the purpose. It hurt more than it helps. Lost some power. And speaking of power from this head? I play with my church choir in a fairly large santuary. I turn the volumn no more than 8:00 position, and that's too loud! I'm thinking about buying another GK rig for my band to keep from transpoting this one back and forth between gigs and playing in church every Sunday. I will probably buy a 700RB head with the same cabinet to use for church, and use the one I have for gigs. I would recommend this head to ANY bass player who's looking for that "ultimate" sound. From reggae to slappin', this head will give you what you want. A distinct sound that will send other bass players running to you asking about the rig you're using. I don't know of any other brand that can top this one. Let this be your next purchase!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II 700/50W Biamp Bass Head:

I was very pleased with this purchase. I was looking for a powerful, bi-amp capable head with great tone and neccessary features. I found it in this unit. Very pleased with the sound I am able to get from this amp, along with the tone controls, bi-amp switching and controls (used with a GK cabinet, of course). It gives me the control I need over the sound without extra, useless features to add cost. I find this to be a much greater value-for-money deal than the Ampeg SVT-3, which I have used extensively. Good amp but overpriced. Not so in this case. You get what you pay for and then some. I personally prefer the sound, too. I do wish it came with a headphone jack, though, but that is no deal-breaker. This is a stage amp anyway, and there are ways to get around that thanks to the direct out feature. Overall, very pleased with this equipment.

Transparent Power

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II 700/50W Biamp Bass Head:

An Ampeg SVT3Pro served me kindly for a number of years. However, with the current project even with a 4x10 and 1x15 cab, and the SVT3 maxed out, I was often ?pulling the strings harder? in a vain attempt to be heard. I bought the 1001RB based on price, power rating, and the desire to play something different, and it has turned out to be one of the best gear purchases that I've ever made. It sounds great at low practice volume in my apartment. It sounds spectacular with the band. In short, apparently GK knows what they are doing. BUY THIS AMP. Your ears and fingers will thank you.

Overall, a great amp...

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II 700/50W Biamp Bass Head:

I bought the 1001RB as a combo with the 115 RBH speaker (GK has since discontinued this combo) and it was a great honeymoon with the amp until the wheels disintegrated about a year ago...bought new wheels from the kind folks at GK, but they fell apart as well...anyway, the head itself is amazing, everything you ever wanted in a head, this thing will provide. Deep resonating lows and clean crisp highs. It takes some tweaking, but the 1001RB pulled some serious midrange growl out of my Stingray 5, which is now easy task!!! I removed the head from the combo, bought a GK 410 amp, contacted GK and bought the outer shell for the 1001RB and now use it as a head/separate amp combo and all is well in my bass playing world. Buy this head and pair it with a great 410 or 212 amp and you will be in heaven...

Brilliant

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II 700/50W Biamp Bass Head:

I pair this amazing head with a rare Music Man Audiophile 4x10 cab I found online...what a rig!!(why oh why did Ernie Ball discontinue the production on the bass cabs?? nothing on the planet compares to them...) I get an onslaught of bass players rushing me like an incoming tide after any show, asking me to lift the veil on my rig...(I cover it with assorted fabric for our stageshow). GK has cut their own trail on the engineering end of things, and they're at the top of their game with this head. I used to rent the RB800 when touring with a dancehall reggae crew, and it would flatten the venue with the thickest, fattest and smoothest bass bombs. In recent years, I moved into diverse area's of music, and played dozens of different rigs, ignoring GK because I'd pigeon holed them as a heavy cream diet, sounding best when all the highs and mids were rolled back, a la Robbie Shakespeare Dub. When I came across an add for the 1001RB, I took it for a spin at my local music store.... What a ballistic weapon of mass basstruction! Totally true transparent power!! VERSATILE!!!

I use this in a studio where I do overdubs. It's not moved so can't talk about that. I get a wide range of tones and sounds with it just as it is. The lows are crisp enough I run the EQ flat. I run the DI as post-EQ and have never had to switch to a direct box. Easy to use. BTW the negative review here is about speakers - not this unit. It should be posted in another location. Thanks.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II 700/50W Biamp Bass Head:

I've used this amp for around 800 shows since I got it and it's never skipped. I play a custom p-bass with a swr 12pack. Sound is incredible! I've used it to push 18's, 15's, 8x10's, 6x10's, pretty much everything and it's always easy to dial in for whatever cab or style. Lot's of power so there's plenty of headroom. I was an engineer for some pretty big names prior to playing full time so I'm a tone freak. Go with this one and you will not be disapointed! Wil in Orange Beach, AL
