Comments about Gallien-Krueger 112MBX Extension Cab for Micro Bass:

My main stage amp, since 1988, has been a Gallien-Krueger 200MB. Sometimes I bring an extension speaker, depending on the size of the room, and/or run balanced line out to the P.A. system. Lately I've been playing smaller rooms, and all I really need is a small 8 ohm cab. The GK 112MBX uses essentially the same cabinet as the 200MB, so it stacks perfectly, and takes up less space in my trunk than any other small cab that I own. Used it twice last week-end and was very impressed.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 112MBX Extension Cab for Micro Bass:

OK, I'm not the kind of user who would typically buy this cabinet. I play guitar, not bass. So why buy it ? I liked the idea of a compact, ultra-lightweight cabinet that was still ruggedly built. When I first got this cab, I found that it sounded "OK" both for lead as well as clean picking but as the included speaker was optimized for bass, I swapped it out for a Celestion Seventy-80. Now, it sounds superb ! Have tried it with my Carvin V3M 50-watt head as well as a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18. Both amps sound terrific through this cab. With its solid metal construction and perfect fit-and-finish, I assume this cab will last many years. And with the Celestion speaker I chose, it's even lighter than when first shipped ! Note to others that may want to swap speakers: when all Phillips screws are removed, the cabinet fit is still so tight that you'll need to pry it up from the bottom. Use a metal tool wrapped in cloth to prevent damage. Also, GK uses unique speaker terminal clips that are pressed very tightly onto the speaker's terminal prongs. I had to use a knife to pry them open slightly – and then there's a little sort of a spring-clip prong in the center that must be depressed in order to safely pull the terminal clip off.

      Great little cab

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 112MBX Extension Cab for Micro Bass:

I use two of these for all my gigs. I play smaller venues, cocktail hours, restaurants, etc. It is a very popular amp for double bass, mainly due to the fact that the single 12" speaker and cab ins't capable of a lot of deep bass--it is great for hearing midrange tweaks. No tweeter, too. I actually really like the sound that I can EQ in while playing electric bass.
Lightweight. No other "features"--just one 1/4" jack.
Solid build. Neatly trimmed damping material around the grill.
Not the greatest value, unless, of course, you get a decent discount coupon from MF!

      112 MBX Extension Cabinet

      By Mike Rieman

      from Austin, Texas

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 112MBX Extension Cab for Micro Bass:

Sounds pretty good, and super easy on the back. Sure adds volume and low end when combined with the 112 MB amp. I do most of my gigs with this mighty little stack, including some rock stuff. The 100 watt power handling is certainly a bit low. Always makes me a bit nervous that I might pop a cone or a coil, but so far, so good...
