Any bass I've ever plugged into this amp sounds good (even my old squier p-bass that I tore the frets out of), it's loud as hell, the boost sounds awesome for rock gigs, or if you just need your bass to cut through the mix a little more. The biamping is awesome, but it's fine without it (my other cab is not a GK), and, for me anyways, the amp it all around aethetically pleasing. 3 years and no problems, well worth the money.
So I've had this thing for about 2 or three years, and it works overtime. Very clean (unless I crank up the boost) and punchy, with lots of options. The pots feel great, and the tuning mute comes in handy all the time. It's also really nice to have the DI on the thing.
It's a big hunk of metal. A few of the rubber pads on mine have come off (the little ones on the side opposite to the handle, not the main ones), but it still stands up vertically just fine. Sometimes it seems like the fan isn't spinning very much, but it's always been like that, and never over heated, so apparently it isn't a problem. No scratchy pots, or any problems at all that aren't cosmetic.
$600 for 480 watts isn't bad at all. I've never been in a room too big for this head and one cab (although using two obviously increases the headroom). I've used it and a single GK Neo112 cab for coffee shops, rotary club meetings, and big Performing Arts Center stages, and it's always just a little more than enough. If I throw in my 410 then it's WAY more than enough.

I bought a GK 700RBII (with 115 RBH) in May 2007 for my highschool daughter as Xmas gift I owed her over several Xmases. The amp is now dead after 2 years and 5 months. The amp was hardly used, my daughter used it at home for practice, once or twice a week, never in a gig (her school band has its own bass amp), sat in her room 2 summers. As she went on to college in Sept, I started to use it for practice. A week ago, the amp showed crackling noise, and then cut out after 5 - 10 minutes of operation, no sound afterwards. Left powered off overnight, the amp turned on okay next day, but continued to cut out after 5-10 minutes and stayed dead for the rest of the day. This cycle repeats a few more days. Last Saturday, when it was turned on, I saw some sparks and smoke coming out the front grill. I did not repower it since. Because it is over the 2 year warranty period and I live in Canada, GK (US) did not want to look at this problem. It refers me instead to a Canadian distributor who has no interest to be concerned about my problem, I can't blame them, besides servicing the unit for a fees. I really like this amp, very powerful, great sound, but expect at this price (close to 900 CN$) the amp would last a lot longer than 2 1/2 year time. Very disappointed with reliability. I wish GK takes note of these types of failures (two more before mine in this column) to correct the problem beofre users turn to their competitors

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II Bass Head:

Mr. Galliens design has stood the test of time, the amp is just a beast. I think this is my third one over the years. I used Ampeg SVT, Markbass, Genz etc. I did a side by side withe my MarkBass tube800 and the 700rbII and the 700rbII had more headroom "imo" I traded it in and got the 700rbII. I did like the portability of the littlemark but the GK sounded as good tone wise. Our band all turned around when they heard the GK 700RB and my Dabid Eden 210XLT cab. I didnt even turn on my connection to mixing board The GK 700RB was loud enough, didnt need PA help!

I've gigged with mine for about 5 years & recorded 2 albums with no problems. Sounds good with my electric & my accoustic upright. The sound my not be awe-inspring but I find it a great all-around amp at a good price.

I bought my first RBII in 2006 and out of the box, it was power. Solid giging amp. Since '06 I prolly did 500+ shows and this amp was there all the way. Then 1 day in 2011 a friend of mine wrecked his truck and my amp was in the back seat, as his truck rolled 3 times the amp flew 70 feet out of his truck into a parking lot and banged the enclosure up pretty good. Plugged it in and it still worked. Still used it on gigs for about 10 months before it finally gave out. Just purchased my 2nd 1. If thats not road worthy, I dont know what is !!!

It was great while it lasted. It has a great warm tone for a solid state amp. Plenty of power, and the bi-amp feature is quite useful. However, I was at practice with the gain at about 1/4 up and the master up about the same, when it suddenly stopped functioning all together. Not sure what happened, but I was impressed with it while it lasted. I won't be getting another one.

I have played bass for about 40 years now and was forever mixing and matching equipment to get the sound I was searching for. I have owned this amp for approx. 15 years and played through it for hundreds of hours transporting it from bar to bar and hall to hall. Through all of this it has never seen the inside of the repair shop. The sound is unmatched for clarity and character and the amp is easy to operate ( set and forget). At about half volume it will fill almost any bar or hall without a sweat. I matched it with a Fender American made Jazz and Fender bottom containing one 18", two 10" and a pair of bullet tweeters which I run with the bi-amp side of the amp. Technical jargon aside, the GK was the glue that brought it all together the way bass is supposed to be heard and felt...Need I say more!

                    Overall? Id reccomend this.

This has fantastic low end, and great highs and punch.

Perfect for Rock, Metal, Jazz, Raggae, etc.

                    Awesome for funk and slap!!!!
Great punchy sound with right cabinets, and fantastic low end. Very little muddy tone. Wide arrange of options to choose from
Not gonna lie, this head WILL TAKE A BEATING!

I bought this to replace my Yorkville, and Ampeg. and This blows them out of the water.

The only thing ive noticed is when I practice, or play live for several house, it gets very warm, but id expect that. Aside from that, true work horse.
Not gonna lie, I bought mine used for 1\6th the price (i know, i rock) but even for $600, it blows every other head out of the water that is on the market. I get compliments ALL OF THE TIME about how good my tone is.

Good sound, not so great reliability

Comments about Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II Bass Head:

I think the quality issues may have been a fluke, but I can't trust this amp now.
I've had this amp for about 14 months. I like the sound (very good for Solid State), and it offers a wide range of sounds.
After 13 months, this amp just started smoking. Turns out that a transistor in the final power stage had caught on fire to the point that it burned through the circuit board. This required replacing the entire power section with a new part from GK. The problem is that when I got this back to rehearsal (not during a gig, thankfully) it started going back into protect mode. I took it back to the shop, and it turned out that the second board had a broken leg on one of the components. The tech soldered it back together, and it works, but I don't trust this amp anymore.
Quality control issues notwithstanding, this amp sounds as good as any Solid state bass amp out there and has plenty of power for the price.

I wanted a replacement for an Ampeg B2RE which I never really like the sound of, and I already had a GK 410MBX cabinet, which sounded good, so I purchased this amp, and I never regretted it. Although power rating is similar to the B2, it has MUCH more power. I had problems getting heard, now I never turn in up much beyond 12 o'clock and it is incredibly loud. It also has a nice tube-like sound and the tone filters, tone controls and drive gives plenty of room for adjusting the tone. This amp sounds great with my GK 410 cab and I love it!
