This is an awesome bass stack package, but one caution, it only comes with one bi-amp speak-on cable (with the amplifier respectively), but there are two cabinets, so make sure you find/purchase another bi-amp cable so you can connect them both with bi-amp configuration when it arrives. I assumed when I bought the package it would come ready to use, but could not hook up both cabinets with the bi-amp configuration. If you weren't planning to use bi-amp, then regular 1/4 cables will work.
Nice amp. Plenty of power for most gigs. I use it with a single 15" cabinet most of the time for smaller rooms and with 2-15" cabinets for large rooms or outdoor stages. Very easy to get a good sound with GK products. They sound warm and quite tube-like compared to most others. The direct out works very well for going through the house sound system. This is not a "hi-fi" type head. I've tried them and they sound too cold and sterile. This amp and most other GK products give you a real bass sound that sits well with other instruments. I always get favourable comments from other musicians on my sound. It also has all the features you need for any gig and the tone-shaping circuit will handle any bass and get you any sound you want. The lightweight is a real plus. Very reliable amp too. I've used GK for many years and never had a serious problem with any of them.
I'm very happy with this amp. I have used it to jam at a party in a large area and it sounded great. Great highs and lows, very clean. If your buddies have high quality equipment that over power your bass or a drummer that makes you sound like you're not even there this is the amp for you.
I purchased the 700RB-II with the 410SBX and 115SBX Cabs about a month ago and I'm loving life. This amp is very versatile. You can dial in many different tones with it. Give the knobs some slight tweaks and you can get any tone. I play an Ibanez with active pickups and a 5 string Fender Jazz Bass. I use the -14db pad with the Ibanez, and the "5 string" switch with the Fender. These are good features that provide a lot of value to me. These are obviously very different sounding instruments, and I can get great tone with either of them. Whatever your style or axe is, get this rig. You will not be disappointed. Oh Yeah, be sure to use the Speakon cables. You need a 4 conductor version, which is hard to find outside of the G-K line. Don't use a normal 2 conductor speakon cable. You'll want to use speakon to take advantage of the bi-amp feature. Again, a lot of control there for your tone..
My, oh my!! This is the best sounding amp I have ever heard. It's got it all. Just the right amount of highs, thunderous knee shaking lows. The perfect rig for any style of music. And the quietest amp I've ever heard. Unless the treble is cranked up you won't even know it's on. I have finally found my "dream rig".
I purchased this package for a Halloween gig, and the 15' woofer blew after two sets, thanks to a bad solder at the voice coils. After a few calls to the service center, they sent an upgraded replacement speaker, and it has sounded great ever since (just make certain that the cabinents you order have the new Eminence mark II speakers). Also, cooling was an issue, as the amp would clip out on practice nights due to extended usage (jammin'!). An external cooling fan solved that issue. Other than theese few problems, this has been the best sounding package I've used. I jump octaves like a fool, and the response is always tight and doesn't freak out the speakers thanks to the bi-amp design. Props for a great head, and hopefully they get the weak voice coil problem corrected. Anyhow, mine sounds great now! Play "Spooky Little Girl" through a Jazz bass and your head will bob for days!
I recently got this stack as a birthday present, before I was gigging with a Gallien-Krueger backline combo which wasn't cutting it - now I got this and it has way more power than I need and has an awesome sound - great stack!
So far so good. I really enjoy this amp. It is completely different then anything i have played. A challenge to get past some of the controls, and disappointed about the boost control. It does,'t boost enought. But overall i am glad to add it to my collection.
I bought this 700 RB-II stack package in 2004 through Musicians Friend; I love the sound, but had two quality control issues. First, like other reviewers on this page, I only received one speakon cable from MF. If that happens to you good luck finding the correct FOUR conductor cable (I found one finally in Michagan on ebay, MF only had two conductor cables). Secondly, within two months two of the three speakers blew out, these were covered by warranty of course and I found GK to be responsive but I had several months of downtime. The GK engineers told me that the package was being sold with under-rated speakers and that it was a mistake to pair theese cabinets with the new 700RB-II. They ended up changing out all of my speakers at no charge. Again, I am super satisfied with the system's performance since the speakers were replaced, but I was a bit put off when the speakers started blowing out. One other note, I posted a review similar to this a few months ago and it was removed by someone at MF. Hopefully that won't happen again as I am a loyal and ususally satisfied customer of theirs. This is a great Bass Amp package. Unlike a previous review, mine came with 2 four-conductor (biamp) speakon cables. No need to buy another. Great sound. Used it live the day it arrived.
