Dial in your ideal sound with GK's Goldline 500.

The Gallien-Krueger Goldline 500 is a bass amp head that was developed to complement the look and tone of the GLX series bass speaker enclosures. The GK Goldline series is an ideal marriage of affordability and outstanding quality.

The Goldline 500 bass head features a 500W, solid state amplifier and a foot-switchable boost "valve effect" channel. GK Gate-Induced Valve Effect, or G.I.V.E. technology, was developed by Bob Gallien in 1972 and is part of what gives GK its distinctive sound. The Goldline 500 bass head is made using the same quality components as GK's professional products, such as a high-current power supply for maximum punch and a toroidal transformer for greater efficiency. The adjustable contour and active 4-band EQ make it simple to dial in a great sound. The Goldline 500 delivers a warm, punchy tone with a fast transient response that not only sounds better, but feels better.

    Features

    • 500W of toroidal power at 4 ohms

I have owned this amp for years now, without any issues at all, and it delivers fantastic rock bass tone. I have it paired up with a GK NEO cab, and it sounds awesome. Picked this up to be my smaller more portable rig with a tone along the lines of my larger SVT-VR bass amp rig. The GK Goldline 500 head sounds like a GK 800RB voiced like an Ampeg, so imagine Ampeg tone with GK growl. I would take the GK Goldline 500 over any micro amp, or solid state Ampeg amp, for rock bass tone. I have previously owned the GK 1001RB, Ampeg SVT-3PRO, an Ashdown, and an SWR, and I prefer the Goldline 500 to all of them (Except the SVT-VR {amp of the GODS} of course). The Goldline 500 bass head is made using the same quality components as GK's other professional products, such as a high-current power supply for maximum punch and a toroidal transformer for greater efficiency. Don't take my word for it, remember to follow your ears and your heart to find the bass tone that grabs you and your peeps.

One of the challenges when reading reviews of moderately priced bass amplification gear is that newbies typically do not know how to properly choose and adjust their bass amplification gear and broadcast rookie mistakes as product failures. The GK Goldline 500 is all good, especially for the price.

      An amazing value !!!

      By Reed-IryOl

I agree with the previous reviewer that this amp is worthy and road-ready. Upon receiving this, I had a number of shows and an important audition. Initially I thought I might as well have a backup, and brought along my SWR just in case. I now utilize this amp exclusively for the small to medium-large sized venues. The quality and reliability of the amp are perfect for my situation, and I enjoy having features such as the boost channel to dial in some warm overdrive. The mute button is a friend while tuning, and although no Speakon connector out, I use a very high quality 1/4" to Speakon to connect to my 2x12 GK 4ohm cabinet. The effects loop is my only worry with no level control, however that can be controlled with an EQ in the loop. This is a fine bass head at an unbelievable price with plenty of power.Buy one as a backup, and you might find this to be your main amp like I have.

      Awesome Bass Head

Demo'd this bass head at a guitar center where it was marked for $600 dollars or something. I was auditioning for a national touring act and wanted something I could just plug right into and play for the singer when I met him. Picked this head out right away because of my love for all things GK (and that I have the matching Goldline 2x12) and started playing with it. Needless to say, the singer was as impressed as the sound as I was. Since having it in my practice studio it has handled any sound and tuning I've thrown at it. The contour does a great job of scooping out the mids, the 4-band EQ does enough to give you a pretty wide variety of quality sounds without being too sensitive, the -10db pad is great for getting a full sound at a quiet volume, and 500W of GK power plus the boost make for a heck of a head unit. Also great, the thing looks like it was built to tank specifications and has rack ears and front handles as part of the whole thing. Come tour in February it'll be sitting on a rack under a Line 6 Bass Pod XT Pro and powering my cab.

      Great amp for the price...

      By m_c_zero

      from Albuquerque, NM

I picked this bad boy up the other day because the price drop to replace my Backline 600 and was using it on my 410GLX. Though due to the fact that the amp is 4ohms and the cab is 8ohms, it was only kicking out about 250 watts of power, which still sounded good, but it seemed like it was lacking. I then plugged in another 4x10 GK half stack and damn, was I blown away. With this amp running the full 500 watts, I was shaking the studio! If you're planning on buying this amp, I'd definitely recommend that you either use it on a cab that is 4ohms or get yourself 2 8ohm cabs to make them equal 4ohms, trust me, this amp has no problem pushing 2 cabs... Overall, I am very satisfied with this amplifier. I have only had it a day so far, so I can't say whether or not I'll run into the same issues some of the other people posting here have run into. If you play GK, then this is the amp for you!

      best boom for the buck

      By Big D-kW.VG

I own the backline 600 but I needed more power. I bought this head to power my swr big bertha cab. This head has more power than stated. To those who have experienced problems with the unit could not have read the instructions. I can't clip this head even if it were struck by lightning. Dummies read the ohm ratings. I love this head and I also own an ampeg svt3pro. Don't tell ampeg, but their's is my practice amp now.

      Great amp!

      By Speedie John

      from Los Angeles

I love this amp. I use it with 6x10's at 4ohms & it shakes the whole room. It's clear & full with power to spare. No more will you be overshadowed by a loud drummer or lead guitar player. This amp brings the bass out front. You hear it & feel it!

Punch? More like powerbomb! This head is great. Easily mounted into most (3 space) racks. Very clear tone and CRISP! It has more than enought to push my 410 and 115 cabs. This pretty much embarrases any ampeg out there. Don't think about it any more... BUY IT! You will not be dissapointed at all. Use with Goldline cabs!
