Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB112-II 200W 1x12 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This amp met one of my criteria right off the bat... I have a bad back and needed something light enough for me to carry. At 27 lbs it is difficult for me to imagine getting something lighter. The very first thing I noticed sonically is that it is very, very clean. Much cleaner than I'm used to. Not that this is bad, but it definitely took some adjustment on my part... I had to adjust my usual settings on both the amp and the bass to account for the cleanness. The second thing I noticed is that it is really loud, especially considering the size. I've played two outdoor gigs with it - a birthday party and a church harvest party - and had no problems punching through the mix. In fact, at the harvest party I had to turn down. One of the reasons I bought it is because the ability to add a powered cab and increase the wattage was very attractive. But, honestly, considering what I play outside the church, mainly small jazz-pop instrumental gigs, it is difficult for me to imagine needing the cab considering what the little amp is able to crank out. In the immortal words of Carlos Santana, it really boogies. It handles my five string well, too. I was worried about a 12 inch speaker being muddy or woofy when reaching below E, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Of course, I only hear what I hear standing next to it, so I can never be sure how it sounds 20 feet (or more) away.

For what I'm using it for, small gigs outside the church, it seems to pretty much fit the bill. I'm happy. Did I mention that it was very clean?

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB112-II 200W 1x12 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Used it regularly for about six months now. It belongs to a friend but I use it more than he does. It will not work with a drummer. With small rooms it will do OK. It has good sound at low volume but you need to keep the EQ flat when turning it up. Very light - about 30 lbs. Don't get this to play loud rock or metal - you will kill it quickly. That isn't what it's for. I use it with two accoustic guitars in a room that has usually 75 - 125 customers. It works great for that. If you are in an orchestra this will sit beneath your chair. That way you hear yourself but you run the DI to the house. It works fine if you know it's limits.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB112-II 200W 1x12 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This amp does sound great. The problem is it has died on me twice, both during gigs. The speaker starting crackling and the amp just gave out. I may have been pushing the amp harder then it could take. This amp is not meant for big clubs. If you are planning to play gigs in big clubs with your band, do not buy this amp. Get the 15 inch version instead. The first time I had the amp repaired it was under warranty. This time around I am going to have to pay for the repair then I am selling it. I would say do not take a chance with this amp if you play gigs on a regular basis, and definitely buy something with more power. Overall great sound but not reliable.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB112-II 200W 1x12 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I run my upright bass w/ a fishman full circle pickup through the GK as a little bit of stage monitoring for the bass. I play in a string band and we often don't use monitors for the other instruments, but the bass being very present helps us to stay tight. In a single mic setup for a string band I use it as a direct out to get the bass into the house as well. Plenty loud for club gigs on its own. The portability is amazing.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB112-II 200W 1x12 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I was truly surprised at the great punch and tone that this amp has. The only real drawback is that it's not powerful enough to cut through the mix if you have a drummer. Still, you could get two of these and an ABY box to run them both at the same time for less than I paid for my 300 watt Mark Bass, and they'd be easier to carry! Just great if you need a practice amp for home or rehearsal. It seems ruggedly made as well.
