It's not built to be the loudest amp in the world, but bass amps need to be a certain wattage to get their message across with two other screaming guitars nearby. This amp immediately made me sound like a better bassist, and gave me that 1-2 more db I needed from my old 100-watt amp to add my weight to the mix. I should also add I listened to some 10x2 and 12x2 amps trying to decide if I needed more, smaller speakers (like the Rumble 350, which caught my eye). My take is that they are louder and sometimes more punchy, but for low-end power and true bass "rumble," a single 15 still sounded better to me. If you're looking for a good amp for your 4-5 piece, and you're playing bars and clubs, this is a great purchase.
Compared to some other amps I have used, it is much more simple to operate, but the truth is it actually sounds pretty good right out of the box - - like a bass amp should! I needed an amp with just a few more db to keep up with the guitars in my blues/classic rock 4-piece and this amp fit the bill nicely. The built-in horn does add great high-end when needed, and my experience is that the horn itself is pretty quiet, but if there is line noise from the ac it will accentuate that. Kind of annoying, but when you ground-lift or manage to find clean power it sounds great! (Don't forget to make sure your bass is grounded effectively internally as many cheaper basses, like mine, are not). The compressor works well, the contour circuit is interesting but not the sound I was going for. All in all, good low-end, a nice mid-high range with the horn on, decent eq ability, and that great GK bass "sound" right out of the box. The fact it weighs less than my dog is also amazing!
The only quality issue I have encountered is that the grill does rattle at higher volume sometimes, especially when the limiter is off. Otherwise, this thing seems very well made. I've only played two gigs, but it was an immediate improvement over my old system, and feels pretty rugged. Nothing sticking out to break off, solid sides, decent handle. The handle, which is located on the top of the amp, is pretty stiff to pull-up (on purpose) but the amp is light enough it seems to me it should not be a high-risk break-point.
Good bang for the buck for small-medium rooms. Good line-out for the P.A. board for larger rooms. For the money, I haven't found a bass amp in this price range in stores that can beat it.

I've owned the GK 15 bass amp for 2 years now practicing with a band once a week and playing out 1 or 2 times a month. It has it's positives and negatives.

This amp has great low end and good tone and is loud enough to be heard over most drummers. The 15 sounds great, the tweeter is just ok. The controls are easy to use and the passive sound is good without feedback when the gain is on 9 o'clock. The only major feature it has is a line out which is good for getting in the mix at medium and large venues.

The amp is very light, however that is it's major drawback. The amp bounces around on the ground on surfaces that are not completely level like my friend's basement and a few venues I've played at.

I play in a loud rock band called People Grinding Axes and yesterday was my last show with this amp because I am sick of the bouncing around on stage. I swapped it for a Fender Rumble 350 2x10 that doesn't sound quite as good as the GK, but it doesn't bounce around and still has the line out. I should also note that the metal grill cracked after about 6 months so I decided to replace it with a plastic screen from a screen door and that seemed to work ok.

The concept is great and it looks like GK decided to put a cloth grill on the new models which will avoid cracking. I also suggest that they add 4 2 pound weights to each corner of the amp to help keep it steady. It would still be under 50 pounds and keep the amp steady on the floor. If you play at quieter volumes, the bouncing may not be an issue.

When GK fixes the grill and makes it more stable it will be 5 stars.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I bought this amp 3 months ago and fell in love with it. However, the tweeder buzzed and sounded like it was ready to blow up. I sent it back and Musicians Friend quickly sent out another new MB115. The same problem, so I sent it back. Musicians Friend promply sent me another one. This time no problems whatsoever. I seriously considered getting a different amp; a Peavey TKO 115 600 watt amp. After some serious thought, I decided to give the GK MB115 another chance. I am so glad that I did! I just bought a 2005 Standard Fender Precision bass made in the USA and it is the perfect marriage between bass & amp! For the price of this amp, you will have to look very hard to find any amp that can come close to the GK pass. I am planning to buy another GK bass cabinet to take it to another level of GK bass perfection. The Good Doctor

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I've had this amp for a year. It was my first upgrade from a cheap practice amp. Here are some opinions:
- Horn makes a hissing noise - loud. I don't use it.
- Amp makes a hissing noise - not too loud, but it's there, even when the horn is off.
- Grate rattles at 75 percent volume.
- Has too many dials and knobs. I can't even tell what the "countour'' does
- It is underpowered to play in a 5-piece variety band, or so my bandmates tell me.
- The direct line out is hard to plug in/out.
- It is light weight, and that's a plus.
- Has good tone, once you take the time to dial it it.
- Dealing with GK is a hassle. Their voicemail is always full and they have NEVER answered a single voice mail or email.
Too many knobs and dials. Don't even know what the Countour does. direct out is tricky
Lots of hiss, noise and rattles.

Good little AMP!!

By David Hampel

from Pittsburgh, PA.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

It's a really good little amp, and you won't get laughed at pulling out a GK amp. Overall it's worth the money! JUST ONE THING- This amp isn't all that loud.So if you play in a hard rock or metal band, you will definitely be testing the limits with this. If say your guitarist(s) are using your basic 100 watt combo amp,and your drummer is fairly loud this is just gonna get you in the mix. You can always set it up on something or tilt it back. (remember though ,no tilt back cab so...) But it does have line out so you could run it into the PA. at the gig. I'm happy I bought it.
Has all the features most bassist need to start with. Easy to read, accesible, and fairly easy to dial in,although naturally more difficult with active Bass due to the many options allready on hand. I'm playing my Fender USA Precision deluxe. The Handbook also explains features in detail. It is definitely one light unit! ( When my drummer picked me up yesterday to jam, he couldn't believe I was Bounding down the front steps with both guitar and amp in hands!)
I've never owned a GK amp before. So far the quality seems to be there. No noticable cheapness to any features. Will it stand up over the years? I hope. Seems like it will though. My front grill isn't rattling like some reviews say, and the horn hisses somewhat but nothing that bad at all. Maybe they fixed the problem?
I don't think one will find any thing better out there for the price. The value is definitely great for musicians on a budget.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Just bought this amp and it kicks ass. For the size and weight you wouldn't believe it. I have owned way to many combo amps, this one delivers an incredible range of tones, turn up the boost control and hang on to your gut man, the low B on my 5 really delivers through this amp. The cut and boost functions of the EQ section have amazing range. The horn in or also helps to develop your own unique sound, (and isn't that what we are really after) Wring it out you'll love it.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Overall, I love this amp and the tone it provides, I have not yet received the chance to use it in performance but I'm sure it will provide adequate volume for any venue I ever find myself at. The tone and weight are major gains, the only real negative would be the tweeter buzz, and that's solved at the push of a button. It's no 4x10 stack but it's great as a beginner performance amp
Everything about this amp is great, wonderful tonal options and solid construction, although it is considerably lighter than other bass combos I tried at the local music store. Tweeter buzzes a bit, but there's always the option to not use it or mute the low E string.
came working great out of the box, have had it for a few months now and have had no problems with it.
I'd consider this the best starter amp value, seeing as you get the benefits of gk tone for a reasonably low price, it's very accessible to lower budget musicians and it's quite a step up from the practice amp that had come with my bass.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I'm happy with it so far, I have had it for a little over a month now. Just going by my experience with it up until now, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a solid amp at a decent price.
I can't believe how loud this little amp is! 35 lbs., it fits easily into the hatchback of my car, but wow does it crank out some sound! The tone is pretty good too, I got lots of variations out of it with simple knob twists, the tweeter horn does hiss a lot, but it's not that noticable when a full band is playing, and there's always the option of turning it off. One of my only complaints is that it doesn't have a speaker out jack. I kinda wanted to plug a 4x10 cab into it, but it's not that big of a deal. I used it at a show the other night and everyone was amazed at how loud and solid the sound from it was. One guy asked if I had it mic'd or if I was running it through a D.I. box, but nope, that was all just the amp itself. I didn't even have it halfway up either...I really like the fact that it doesn't weigh a ton too, it's easy to carry around and set up, a lot less strain on my back!
Even though it's light, it seems like it's well put together. I like the metal grill on the front. I also like the fact that it's not covered in fabric, that stuff always seems to get torn. I'm not planning on throwing it down stairs or anything, so I think it should be cool.
The price is great for the volume, power and tone that this amp has.

GK MB115 Review

By Sheila Oglesby

from Virginia

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I have had this amp for a little over a year now. Its sound quality is superb and its power amazing for such a relatively small amp. It is lightweight and easy to transport. Great for a gigging bassist, and if 200 watts doesn't prove to be enough, you can always run the amp through PA using the XLR or line out jacks. Works great in any scenario. I would definitely recommend this to any bassist serious about power and tone.
4 band EQ, contour switch, and a horn. In my opinion, that's all that you need. An overdrive or tone shaping feature would be nice though.
The sound quality and overall construction of this amp is excellent. Great bass, mid, and treble response. I can dial in just about any tone I want with this amp.
It is a very high quality amp. it's is on the expensive side, but it is ultimately worth every penny.

Its Gallien Krueger ...
GK! thats really all i can say... i just recieved this this morning... first thing i did ( of course) was plug in the power and my five string fender jazz bass... messed with all the controls to see what i could do with it. I have to Say im VERY impressed. My last amp was a roland cube 15 so its not hard to do really. The lows are soul shaking, the highs ( with out the horn) are crispy, engage the horn and it just takes it to another level. the limiter is a nice feature i love the four band EQ. i think GK may have just found another life long customer... and the contour is a very realistic tube warmth i have a tech 21 sans amp BDDI i may be able to retire now lmao... i can't wait to be able to crank on this baby... i got a session coming up this week so well see what happens... GK, LOVE BABY!
like i said i just got this thing... but i sat on it... and it didn't even wiggle... im sure its gonna last me a good long while
400 bucks divided by 200 watts equals 2 dollars a watt... For the lowest lows.... the highest highs and everything in between... add the Aux in , the limiter... the very convincing tubiness i mean seriously i think they could sell this for twice as much and it would still be a steal!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Very lightweight, not bad to carry at all! I got this because I have a bad knee and minor back problems. I like the switches for the horn tweeter, limiter, & contour. 1/8 input is cool for hooking it up to an .MP3 player, or your computer. Good, deep sound out of this amp. You can feel the sound, no doubt. The only issue I have with it is that the XLR plug (on mine) is put in so that when you go to unplug the XLR line out, you can't get to the release button on the cable. If you use the XLR out, you'll see what I mean. Not that big of a deal as an ink pen or something small can be used to get down in there to push down the release button on the cable. It just seems they would have caught that before putting it into production. Overall, it's a great combo amp & I'm pleased with it!

Amazing for the mean streets of NYC

    By Chet The Jet-Eex3X

    from NYC

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I needed something light, articulate and powerful to navigate the urban labyrinth of Manhattan- cabs, subways, streets, crowds, club stairs etc etc- while carrying 1 or 2 basses and a pack. My trusty Hartke A100 is great, but heavy and bulky, so I started doing research... which led me to this little monster. I ordered it from MF, it came on time and in great shape. Shockingly powerful, tight lows, flawless crisp mids and guitar-esque highs for chordal work. It's really all that the other reviews say. The weight... its 35 lbs. feel like i'm lifting 2 bass gigbags, compared to most other amps this size (which have none of the MB115's power). I've been playing for 40 years this year, and this weight was unheard-of for decades. We've arrived at a golden age of tech, with small, utterly strong sonic support available to us for relatively dirt-cheap. So... excellent, totally pro sound and look, headroom for days, tube-like warmth and surgical sparkle in the chordal ranges. The only thing it lacks (and this is a matter of taste) is a kickback-style cab. Kickback cabs are increasingly seen as the next step for combos, as they give you an accurate way to fill a non-PA room and the monitoring ability to judge your relative volume (we've all heard bass players blasting the toupees off of club-date patrons in the first row, while the player contentedly lays down the funk, oblivious to his skull-splitting volume). I picked up an inexpensive tripod stand locally (at the "Sam" store), i tend to put this amp on its side to keep a low stage profile, and voila... the ultimate new-breed kickback combo. Overall excellence from GK.

Light weight and Powerful with a wide range of tones and great price, I had to have two, side by side on tilt-back stands or stacked. Two is better than one in my book. The folks at Musician's Friend will help you with daisy-channing if your intersted in runnig two amps like me.
The controls are all you need and the Limiter really helps keep things on the level. And you can get a clean sound to a growling power monster(not distortion) by using the Boost Control and tweeking the Gain and Master Volume.Awsome!!!
    Supprisingly, well built !
Best amp I've used for the $$$ so I bought two. I use them side by side on modified tilt-back stands or stacked using the line level out with an "L" shaped jack to the active input to the lower cab, you can run them both. That's Value...

simply amazing! you can feel the bass in your chest at a low volume. i bought the G/K MB115 as i prefer the fullness of 15" speakers over 10's or 8's. although, in combination, they work great together
only had it a week so too soon to make that call but, so far, as stated above, amazing.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Now, I?ve been contemplating the purchase of a quality bass amp combo for some time. Going in and out of music stores week after week trying to decide whether I should save the money and buy and Acoustic or spend a bit more and get an Ampeg, well after trying just about every bass amp in the 500.00 mark I set I Finally got to the Gallien-Krueger 100 watt, Now once I heard the sound I was set. So naturally I went looking for the best deals and boy, did I get one. I ended up getting the 200 watt 1x15 for the same price. When it came via UPS I couldn?t have been more enthusiastic. When I plugged it in I couldn?t have been more ecstatic. The Bass roars with a thunderous kick behind every pluck. And the ?POP? of my funk riffs couldn?t have sounded more energetic. Within each note I began to appreciate the real beauty behind such a well made instrument. This Amp is truly top of the line, and given the price? COME ON! PICK ONE UP! You won?t be disappointed. Over all five out of five great job Gallien-Krueger Team, and kudos Musicians Friend on saving me a butt load of cash.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

It is nice for us musicians that are getting a little older to have the gear get lighter !!
This is not my first GK purchace. Their amps are well built. The contour presets
offer good variation in sound and are good to build on.
I will use it primarily as an acoustic/electrict amp. I also play a bass with active
pick ups so I like the choice of inputs and the XLR line out is a nice feature.
very versatile. lots of options to shape your sound.
Well built and durable for as light as it is.
A lot of reviews talked about the the hissing horn.
It is a fact. I just turn it off. I played throughh it at
the store and played bass, electric and acoustic
through it and decided to buy it to play my Taylor's
through. It sounds great!! So robust and full on the
bottom end. I play through a little multi effect unit
for som reverb and it sounds and feels incredible.
Oh yeah, it's a great bass amp too !
I watched for a friendly "Friend" deal and got a great buy. Good price.

Classic GK Growl at Lower Volumes

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I've been searching for "that sound", the infamous "growl" and this little amp delivers. I was looking for a lightweight amp that could cut through the 2 guitarists (and drummer) I play with and it does just that. Interestingly enough, I came across a quote from Bob Gallien who convinced me to go with this one and not the MB212 500 watt, "If you want to maintain the classic G-K growl and don't need to play at loud volumes, then you definitely want to stick with a lower powered amplifier so it is easier for you to hit the rails."
