I've owned the GK MB150S for almost 2 years now. I loved it then, I still love it now. At first I wanted to get a different combo with more power, but I opted to go for portability over pounds and power, and I?m so glad I did. This little guy produces a gorgeous, powerful tone (a lot more than I expected), and the controls give me a wide range of versatility. For a lighter set or a smaller venue, this box was perfect. But once the drummer walked in, I knew this amp would not suffice for long. Though it sounds great, it?s simply not powerful enough to keep up with a rock band. So I eventually purchased a GK 700RB head and an Ampeg B-410 HLF cab, and I was able to keep up. But, to tell the truth, I still don?t use that rig nearly as much as I use my micro-bass amp. The light, tough metal body makes it my day-to-day warrior. I?ve stacked it, packed it, slammed it, scratched it, thrown it in my trunk countless times (with just one hand), and it still does the job beautifully. I still get more compliments on this amp than I do on my big rig. They expect great sound from a half-stack, but they are always surprised by what they hear from my micro-bass amp. I fully expect to hand this one down to my children someday.

This amplifier is well built, portable, and loud; but it is also very limited in tone. The tones are either muddy or chirpy. There seems to be no high mid response and very undefined low mids. The highs are brittle and harsh. These symptonms worsen as you increase the volume. I have used a german Warwick Corvette, MIM Fender Jazz, and MIA Fender P with this amp and have yielded similar results. If you are looking for something portable with similar wattage, I would recommend something with more speaker like a 2x10", 1x15", etc. You will have more headroom throughout the frequency range.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB150S-112III 150W MicroBass Combo Amp:

This amp is definitely the best out there whether you are an electric bass player or plugging up your upright. I bought it a few months ago and absolutely couldn't be any happier.

Awesome amp

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB150S-112III 150W MicroBass Combo Amp:

An awesome amp. I play flamenco fusion music with a Godin fretless 5-string bass and Ergo elctric upright 5 string bass. My bandmates complimented me on my sound, but did not realize I got a new amp. Since I made the switch, they (and I as well) love my tone. This amp has excellent features for getting a really fat lo-end good for reggae, to a punchy mid-range "jaco-esque" tone, to treble

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB150S-112III 150W MicroBass Combo Amp:

I have had this amp for about 6 years. Not only does it sound great its light and super portable. This amp was left in a basement during a hurricane and was under 6ft of water before I found it again. My other equipment there was destroyed. Took it into the shop for a clean up and its been running fine for the last four years. Mackie board and Carvin PA were DOA while this little gem was the only survivor.

great upright amp

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB150S-112III 150W MicroBass Combo Amp:

This amp seems like it was made for upright bass. With this amp I can drive a big band, any size combo, and it even gives great full tone while bowing. It will boom in the low register without clipping, and without changing your EQ it will give you sweet, punchy tone in the high register, and it is incredibly portable and roadworthy. Anybody considering an amp for upright gigs should consider this piece of equipment.

Still the best micro

By sido

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB150S-112III 150W MicroBass Combo Amp:

Think of this original micro combo as the bass amp analog to Fender's Tele: Other gear has other features, some you might prefer, some not, but it's really all here. Solidly built, light, portable, insensitive to rough housing, loud, throaty, flexible, modern sounding, good with electric bass, even better with uptright; flexible, you bet. Run it alone or drive itself and an 8 ohm cabinet. It's usually enough on its own. This is a must have for any bassists. Plus, multiple DI/outputs.

Great little bass amp!

By Big Ed-38kzS

from Arizona

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB150S-112III 150W MicroBass Combo Amp:

I have used this amp for over 10 years and have been very satisfied with it's performance. I use a 6-string bass most of the time and play in relatively small clubs. The graphic EQ is really helpful to shape the sound and with an all-metal cabinet, it really holds up to the real world. It is a little weak when pushing the volume on the sixth string, but that's when the EQ can help out. (You can always set it on a 15" cabinet if needed. Very impressive piece of equipment!
