Git it!
Just got this MB210 amp 4 days ago and used it in our band rehearsal last night. WOW! I was blown away at the tight, crisp bottom end the twin 10's produce and I didn't even open it up past 25% on the Master with the Gain @ 75%. At just 34 lbs. and my age 59, I loved putting this amp in the back seat of my Hyundai Sonata without a problem. ( my girl friend didn't like ridin' in the trunk )

Back in the day ( '67-'75) when I had a Fender Bassman Cab with twin 15" JBL-D 140's (Cab alone weighed 160 lbs.!!!) and was driving it with an Acoustic 360 Brain, it was loud, bad and VERY bassey. This amp is just as smooth on the bottom end but with a MUCH tighter sound, especially in the mids & highs. Oh, the marvels of modern technology. I also played a Fender Precision back then but am now playing an Ibanez SR4000E Prestige (Active PU/EQ) and with the smooth, bottom end the Bartolini's produce, this new amp just purrs and begs for more. Had the volume on the guitar at about 25%.

I noticed some comments on NOT setting this amp on a stand and I appreciate that tip. I recently read an article (by a well known bassist) recommending putting the amp on a stand to get it up off the stage to prevent all the stage vibrations the bass produces. But, as one of the comments said, when this amp is left on the stage "it really comes alive" which makes sense using twin 10's. Thank you.

Also, thanks for the tip regarding not needing the 15" Extension Cab cuz adding it soon is exactly what I was planning to do. Besides, GK will have their Powered Extensions for this amp available around the first of September IF I need to put another cab on the other side of the drummer. And the "upgraded" MB Combos will allow you add the new powered cab PLUS an extension Cab ... IF needed! GK will "swap" out the upgrade for you, as long as it hasn't fallen out the back of your pickup while on the interstate ... dirt roads are ok though!

With so many variables built in, you shape the sound to what YOU want and that's another feature I really like; I'm an options person. Btw, it's a great practice amp too: just plug in your headphones (that mutes the twin 10's) , plug your line-in from your CD/Mp3 player, and wahlah, silent jammin' at all hours of the night without waking up your mule! So, if you're looking for an amp with a small footprint but a HUGE sound, don't look any further. Just git this baby and you'll be pickled tink. ( Fender, Acoustic, JBL, Ibanez as well as GK have paid me large sums of $$ to write this comment ... now maybe MF will give me a pick'r two for my remaining 3 teeth )

Overall It's a great amp, I do recommend you get the extension cabinet, because it is NOT 500 watts util you connect a extension cabinet.
This light amp has unbelievable power for the size and weight, the amp does have a pop if turned all the way up with a lot of bass, but if you get the extension cabinet, the volume increase is AMAZING and the load will be less on the original 2x10 speakers

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Can you see me smileing
This is a dream come true amp. Powerfull Very tight response with the 2 10's. As stated super light at 33 lbs. I smile every time I pick it up. Amazing that everything I always thought about a bass amp had to be heavy has just been disproved. Two complaints that I have is the tweeter pops and the XLR out is installed reverse so that something has to be used to release it as it is up against the cabinet. I would not let these things discourage this amp purchase. I asked GK about the tweeter issue and they suggest that I call MF and request another one. I did and they were more than happy to accomadate an exchange. I am very happy with this amp and MF!!! Killer Company and Product.
Fantastic Value! Great GK sound!
The Best deal out there!

A high quality amp

By emittscool

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I am actively playing out in 2 bands, and needed a high quality amp to supplement/replace my 250 watt peavey bass amp for our bar shows. Initially I ordered a different amp through Musician's Friend but I was disappointed to find it to be a factory defect upon arrival. Musician's Friend was very accommodating with their return policy and after much deliberation i decided to go with the gallien-krueger mb210. The first thing i noticed when it arrived is how light and compact it was. I had some skepticism as to how loud this bad boy would go, but all that was put to rest the second i plugged it in. This amp has a great tone and even when you turn it up the speakers still put out a tight, booming, undistorted sound. My old peavey amp was a very reliable tank but this GK is lighter, smaller, better sounding and louder. If you are looking for a portable yet powerful amp for small/midsized bars, I would definitely recommend this amp! The only gripe I can think of is I noticed at high volumes the amp does emit a slight hissing sound (more so when the tweeter is enabled), but that did not stop me from giving this fine amplifier a 5 star rating

Big sound in a small package

By Jeff-AYSdT

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I am in love with this amp. It has that great GK tone, the 2 10s punch you right in the chest and I can pick it up with 1 finger. Last week, I had my first practice with full band since getting it and it handled it like a champ. I had the gain at 12:00 and volume around 9:00 or 10:00 and had no trouble being heard. The rest of the band loved my sound. Dinged the rating a bit because of the backwards XLR output

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This amp is hands down the greatest amp I have ever owned. I had originally owned a Peavey VB-2 tube bass head with a Peavey 15 inch speaker. I can tell you right now that the gallien krueger blows the thing out of the water. The tone is better, it's louder, and it doesn't weigh 56 pounds like the tube head. The only complaint i have about this amp is the placement of the direct out. You have to have some little hands to be able to press the botton to release the XLR Cable. It's too close to the short wall of the cabinet.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I bought one of these last year from my local music store at the same exact price. It was recommended by the store employee. I was pleasantly surprised at how much power it has. It gives a nice warm tone that you can adjust and really belts out the lows when you are down a half step or in Drop D. I dont like the contour setting and you have to keep it limited to not blow out the speakers. Be careful with the gain as it is very loud. I keep the gain down about 3 oclock and turn the volume up very high when we practice. We have a loud drummer and the guitars use 100 watt amps so I have to crank it to hear myself play. Just played a gig with it in a large auditorium and used the direct out. The amp did well and I could hear myself on stage and in the monitors. Only negative is that it farts out at high boost and if you use alot of gain. An additional cab is almost a must for gigs. If you have the money get the 4x10 800 watt cabinet. Also they said the 500 watt head is removable. It is very light weight at 35 lbs but large.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

    PROS

    500W @ 4 ohms/ This amp works with 350W @ 8 ohms and 500 @ 4ohms.

Neodymium speakers reduce noise without the horn activated, and produce cristal clear sound.

    Compatible with Gallien-Krueger 115MBE 400-Watt Cabinet.

    Portable and Ultra Light

    CONS

    Tweeter(Horn)

    Very cheap materials.
500W @ 4 ohms/ This amp works with 350W @ 8 ohms and 500 @ 4ohms.Limiter helps a lot to prevent distortion.2 x 10" neodymium speakers(yes! it is completly true they do not make the usual ceramic speaker noise and their sound its better)Active 4-band EQ with contour(this cuts the midrage frecuencies and boost the high and low which provide unique sound)Compatible with Gallien-Krueger 115MBE 400-Watt @ 8ohms (Ultra Light Bass Guitar Cabinet with Horn)Tweeter(Horn) is the only problem of this amp specially with pasive basses, the horn makes static noises. I did not have this problem with my active esp bass, however with my thunderbird I did, so I rather turn the horn off to avoid noises when using the pasive input. I checked the owners manual also called GK and they said that some pasive basses have partially active electronics as well, so you have to pluggled it into the active input to avoid these noises but it reduces the volume about 40% which it is normal on active basses but not pasive basses.NOTE: THERES A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT BOUGHT THE GK MB212 BECAUSE IT IS A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE AND IT HAS 12 INCH SPEARKES BUT WHAT THEY DID NOT REALIZE IS THAT THE MB212 IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE EXT 400W OHMS CABINET AND IT HAS 4 OHMS POWER.
Obviously materials had to be light but the silver front cover with the GK logo is really thin and it bends easily so it does not protect the speakers properly in my opinion, so you have to be very careful when handling this amp, also materials look very cheap and the amp is manufactured in china, the speaker materials and the base feel as hard styrofoam seriously. I hope not to have problems because of this.
Fair price, but it think it can be sold for less because of its constrution.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I would recommend the GK series of amps/speakers to anyone. I have two of them with the other being the MB 112.
Purchased used from Musician's Friend and I was pleasently surprised to find it in excellent, new, condition. Has a good full range sound which can be used for any music inputs. The amplifier is very versitile to plug in the Fender Presision Bass, a music source, and headphones when you want to play silently. You are abel to control the volume of the bass and the music input while having another volume control for the headphone output. This would be an ideal amplifier/speaker combo for small clubs, and it only weighs 33 pounds.
Well engineered and nice eye appeal
Excellent buy for what you get.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I did play at the store for 30 minutes and If you want a portable, lightweight and very powerful combo this is your final search for a great bass combo. It's a 2x10 speakers with a piezo tweeter and I can tell you...OMG! what a low bass response and a beaultiful midrange! I don't like Piezo tweeters but if you want a hi-fi sound this amp is able to reproduce.Very good for upright basses too. and the price you can't beat. I did play in markbass combos and i did feel much more power and response on this amp and the weight it's the same of the markbass combos you can't tell which is the lighter one. and this amp has 50w more power and has better dimensions for a good sound ambience. Believe me, You won't regret! buy now.

Great Little Amp for the Price

    By Timothy Postell

    from North Goergia

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This may be the best amp currently available in the price range. Can't wait to get the single 15 extension cab.
I bought it for our bass player due to good reviews and we were not disappointed. It sounds much more defined with his custom Greg Curbow and active pick-ups than with his 1967 Fender Precision Bass, but I guess that is to be expected. The horn is useless unless your playing music back because it farts out so quick. The XLR out is located in a weird place, but the amount of volume and low end is very impressive for a 33 lb. package. It does have a unique tone, but it is a nice one. With the gain low, there is just enough color for a good sound and then you crank up the gain and can get some really cool growl, especially with a pick for classic stuff.
Haven't had it long enough to determine reliability, but the initial build quality appears good.
I think the value is excellent as at it holds up.

    Recommend GK products to anyone.
I now have 2 of the GK MB210 Amplifier Combos and 1 GK MB112 Combo. I primarily use them
for practice as I have not played with bands for over 30 years now and trying to get back to what I enjoy. They are excellent for practice as you can plug in your music sourse, the Bass, and headphones when you wish to practice in private. I also have 3 basses and keep one in the house ane one in my workshop so I can play when I feel like it. I also added a GK 15" extension speaker to the one I have in my workshop which matches the MB210 cabinet. The extention speaker is rated at 400 Watts and is a nice addition to the MB210. You could play anywhere with this combo.
Rugged and should last for years.
Excellent price for the quality of product

    Super Bass For Your Bucks

    By Ed Rosenau

    from Los Angeles

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I love this amp and would not trade it for anything. It is light, powerful, and durable. It holds up to the many different styles of music I play. I have received many compliments on the sound quality of this very awesmoe amp.
This light weight beast has plenty of choices to help shape your sound. One would think that a cabinet weighing in only at 33 lbs couldn't pump out the bass as needed. This bad boy has been used in chruchs and medium locations and has plenty of punch to keep up with screaming electric guitars. This guy has a horn that is use full only when slpapping but we usually have it off. In addition to the usually EQ buttons we have Countour and Boost. Contour give you and additional adjustment on the highs and mids but we use a bit of boost to give some more bunch on the low end. It also has a limiter when you are thinking about pushing the this little guy to the limit.
We got this guy about 3 months ago and we have been using it for at least two gigs and two practices a week. It has really held up. The fact that it is light saves us from breaking our back. Considering this was a floor model the sound and unit quailty is excellent.
The bang for your bucks is definitely worth it even if you buy it new. It will definitely hold it's own against the more expensive amps.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Great amp for small venues/rehearsals. The XLR you will need it to plug into the PA for anything bigger than a small venue.
This amp sounds great however it does not seem like 350W alone. I play with a fairly but not extremely loud drummer and I just get by with it in a small club. If you want 500W you need to BUY a Speakon Cable and another cabinet. I have the 1-12" 200W and this one and I used a Y cable and needed both of them on 8 to play an un-mic'd gig and it was 'just' enough with no headroom and 25 feet out the bass was almost non existent.
I bought the extended warranties after reading so many reviews of them dying.
They sound great and are easy to move but not as loud as you 'think' they are going to be.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I love the light weight of this GK MB210, which is the reason that I purchased it. The tone is not as bright as other 10-inch speaker cabinets that I have used but it actually sounds fuller. As other reviewers have stated the volume without an extension cabinet is not as high as I expected. I have almost two months of playing it, and have pushed it to 9+ at times, with no problems so far. Yet I hope that it does not develop any of the broken speaker noises that some people have experienced.

    Ask me a question

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

WOW! I was skeptical about a 33lb bass combo amp. How could anything less than 80lbs produce the "thick" bottom-filled sounds I needed. Well GK's done it--and done it right, with their MB combos. I have both the MB212 and the MB210 combo amps and frankly there's hardly a difference between the two. I play keys with LH bass and I use the twin-10s for the keys parts and the 212 for the dedicated bass output. For a keyboard amp, the MB210 blows away Roland's KC 550, the PV keyboard amps and even Yorkville and Traynor's stuff. The twin 10s with high frequency (controllable) tweeter) provide a thick, yet "crispy" sound--perfect for all my keys sounds, from the B3 through Yamaha grand piano to the strings, horns and synth stuff. I've used this amp in open-air (outside festival) gigs without going through the mains and it's unbelievable in its output as a stand-alone. It cuts through the guitars and drums with no problem. You can push this too and not distort or get clipping like most "keyboard" amps seem to do. Another bonus with the MB210 (unlike the more expensive MB212) is a port to run an extension cabinet off the amp. So if you don't have all the bottom you want through the twin 10's, run a 15" or a pair 12's off this and you'll be set for life!!

The MB210 is more than just a Bass Amp.

    By Joel Cook

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

The real value of this amp is it's cost, ease of operations, funtions and reliabiltiy.
I'm a professional musician who plays primarily acoustic guitar and I'm using the MB210 for all my performances. The light weight makes it a perfect road amp and the range and power makes it perfect for my acoustic guitars. The optional horn allows me to add the highs I need and the twin 10" spearks give me all the color and warmth I need in a single amp.

I would recomment this amp to anyone who wants an affordable, road worthy and dependable amp for Bass or other applications.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

But this amp really delivers. The selling point to me was weight, but it honestly sounds great too. Plenty of volume and bottom end. It's kind of spooky since it's so light. I sold my GK 700RB 115 combo to justify this amp, and this amp actually has better tone. It's missing some of the nice features of the 700RB, like a dedicated tuner output, but it's not missing anything crucial.I also plug my POD and Yamaha DG Stomp in to the aux input as a guitar amp. Sounds pretty good! The horn helps a lot.The bad: the little screen over the horn wasn't attached, so I took it off completely. I also don't like how the cables plug in at the top. They're just waiting to get whacked. I imagine that the jacks are surface mount, making them impossible to repair. I'd also have preferred a better input for the aux. Those little 1/8" jacks are too wimpy. These are SMALL complaints - over all I LOVE this amp!!Buy this amp, or it's less expensive 15" or 12" siblings. You'll thank yourself later!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I tried this combo out in the store. I was blown away with the low end and the high crisp sound of the tweeter. I'm a GK fan and user. I would like to have this amp for gigs when I have to play one gig and break my rig down fast to get to the next one. This little monster is loud enough to play without turning up past 5 Wow!! I played on it for two hours. You can lift this baby with two fingers and run with it. What a pleasure not to dread packing up and setting up Thanks GK for being practical Good things do come in small packages I'm sold
