Git it!
Just got this MB210 amp 4 days ago and used it in our band rehearsal last night. WOW! I was blown away at the tight, crisp bottom end the twin 10's produce and I didn't even open it up past 25% on the Master with the Gain @ 75%. At just 34 lbs. and my age 59, I loved putting this amp in the back seat of my Hyundai Sonata without a problem. ( my girl friend didn't like ridin' in the trunk )

Back in the day ( '67-'75) when I had a Fender Bassman Cab with twin 15" JBL-D 140's (Cab alone weighed 160 lbs.!!!) and was driving it with an Acoustic 360 Brain, it was loud, bad and VERY bassey. This amp is just as smooth on the bottom end but with a MUCH tighter sound, especially in the mids & highs. Oh, the marvels of modern technology. I also played a Fender Precision back then but am now playing an Ibanez SR4000E Prestige (Active PU/EQ) and with the smooth, bottom end the Bartolini's produce, this new amp just purrs and begs for more. Had the volume on the guitar at about 25%.

I noticed some comments on NOT setting this amp on a stand and I appreciate that tip. I recently read an article (by a well known bassist) recommending putting the amp on a stand to get it up off the stage to prevent all the stage vibrations the bass produces. But, as one of the comments said, when this amp is left on the stage "it really comes alive" which makes sense using twin 10's. Thank you.

Also, thanks for the tip regarding not needing the 15" Extension Cab cuz adding it soon is exactly what I was planning to do. Besides, GK will have their Powered Extensions for this amp available around the first of September IF I need to put another cab on the other side of the drummer. And the "upgraded" MB Combos will allow you add the new powered cab PLUS an extension Cab ... IF needed! GK will "swap" out the upgrade for you, as long as it hasn't fallen out the back of your pickup while on the interstate ... dirt roads are ok though!

With so many variables built in, you shape the sound to what YOU want and that's another feature I really like; I'm an options person. Btw, it's a great practice amp too: just plug in your headphones (that mutes the twin 10's) , plug your line-in from your CD/Mp3 player, and wahlah, silent jammin' at all hours of the night without waking up your mule! So, if you're looking for an amp with a small footprint but a HUGE sound, don't look any further. Just git this baby and you'll be pickled tink. ( Fender, Acoustic, JBL, Ibanez as well as GK have paid me large sums of $$ to write this comment ... now maybe MF will give me a pick'r two for my remaining 3 teeth )

Overall It's a great amp, I do recommend you get the extension cabinet, because it is NOT 500 watts util you connect a extension cabinet.
This light amp has unbelievable power for the size and weight, the amp does have a pop if turned all the way up with a lot of bass, but if you get the extension cabinet, the volume increase is AMAZING and the load will be less on the original 2x10 speakers

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This amp is hands down the greatest amp I have ever owned. I had originally owned a Peavey VB-2 tube bass head with a Peavey 15 inch speaker. I can tell you right now that the gallien krueger blows the thing out of the water. The tone is better, it's louder, and it doesn't weigh 56 pounds like the tube head. The only complaint i have about this amp is the placement of the direct out. You have to have some little hands to be able to press the botton to release the XLR Cable. It's too close to the short wall of the cabinet.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I bought one of these last year from my local music store at the same exact price. It was recommended by the store employee. I was pleasantly surprised at how much power it has. It gives a nice warm tone that you can adjust and really belts out the lows when you are down a half step or in Drop D. I dont like the contour setting and you have to keep it limited to not blow out the speakers. Be careful with the gain as it is very loud. I keep the gain down about 3 oclock and turn the volume up very high when we practice. We have a loud drummer and the guitars use 100 watt amps so I have to crank it to hear myself play. Just played a gig with it in a large auditorium and used the direct out. The amp did well and I could hear myself on stage and in the monitors. Only negative is that it farts out at high boost and if you use alot of gain. An additional cab is almost a must for gigs. If you have the money get the 4x10 800 watt cabinet. Also they said the 500 watt head is removable. It is very light weight at 35 lbs but large.

The MB210 is more than just a Bass Amp.

    By Joel Cook

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

The real value of this amp is it's cost, ease of operations, funtions and reliabiltiy.
I'm a professional musician who plays primarily acoustic guitar and I'm using the MB210 for all my performances. The light weight makes it a perfect road amp and the range and power makes it perfect for my acoustic guitars. The optional horn allows me to add the highs I need and the twin 10" spearks give me all the color and warmth I need in a single amp.

I would recomment this amp to anyone who wants an affordable, road worthy and dependable amp for Bass or other applications.

NOT 500W unless you have a 2nd Cabinet AND a SPEAKON Cable (not included)

    By Firebird Collecter

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Great amp for small venues/rehearsals. The XLR you will need it to plug into the PA for anything bigger than a small venue.
This amp sounds great however it does not seem like 350W alone. I play with a fairly but not extremely loud drummer and I just get by with it in a small club. If you want 500W you need to BUY a Speakon Cable and another cabinet. I have the 1-12" 200W and this one and I used a Y cable and needed both of them on 8 to play an un-mic'd gig and it was 'just' enough with no headroom and 25 feet out the bass was almost non existent.
I bought the extended warranties after reading so many reviews of them dying.
They sound great and are easy to move but not as loud as you 'think' they are going to be.

    very happy so far

    By John Heckler

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I love the light weight of this GK MB210, which is the reason that I purchased it. The tone is not as bright as other 10-inch speaker cabinets that I have used but it actually sounds fuller. As other reviewers have stated the volume without an extension cabinet is not as high as I expected. I have almost two months of playing it, and have pushed it to 9+ at times, with no problems so far. Yet I hope that it does not develop any of the broken speaker noises that some people have experienced.
    no grafic EQ

Tone is okay, but it has some shortcomings.

    By Mark J

    from Florida

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Two things I thought I would post in a review here, for people who may not have a place to try one of these amps in person.

First, the amp is a lot bigger than it looks in these photos. It's 24 inches tall, 20 inches wide, and 15 inches deep. I think Musician's Friend should put the dimensions in the description, that might have influenced my buying choice.

Secondly, the horn feature does not work well. If you turn the horn on all of a sudden you hear a lot of static and interference. I can't imagine this would be usable especially at higher volume.

I think this is something you need to try before you buy, if you're okay with those shortcomings, it might be a good value.
Has a nice control panel with a lot of interesting features.
It seems to be well constructed, but the horn does not work very well at all.
Depending on how you want to use it, this would be very good value/volume for the money.

Great Amps for Home or Clubs

    By Albert R Fitzgerald

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

    Recommend GK products to anyone.
I now have 2 of the GK MB210 Amplifier Combos and 1 GK MB112 Combo. I primarily use them
for practice as I have not played with bands for over 30 years now and trying to get back to what I enjoy. They are excellent for practice as you can plug in your music sourse, the Bass, and headphones when you wish to practice in private. I also have 3 basses and keep one in the house ane one in my workshop so I can play when I feel like it. I also added a GK 15" extension speaker to the one I have in my workshop which matches the MB210 cabinet. The extention speaker is rated at 400 Watts and is a nice addition to the MB210. You could play anywhere with this combo.
Rugged and should last for years.
Excellent price for the quality of product

    GREAT AMP SPEAKER COMBO

    By Albert R Fitzgerald

    from San Antonio, TX

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

    Recommend to anyone.
This is the second MB210 I have purchased. I have one in my house and one in my shop to play when I feel like it. I have basses in both locations also. I have added a GK 115MBE 400 watt
speaker cabinet, that matches the MB210, to the one in my shop. With that combo you could play just about anywhere. I primaraly use the amps for practice purposes since I had not picked up a bass in over 30 years. I like the sound I get from the MB210 and I especially like the light weight. When I was playing in bands I got a hernia lifting my Kuston 18" speaker in and out of my car. The weight of this equipment is a welcome change.
    Well built and rugged.
    Great equipment for the pric.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I play bass for a neighborhood band of twelve, inexperienced, but highly enthusiastic older musicians. This wonderfully light amp has the muscle to keep group somewhat on target. It's easy to get a good sound from my, '72 P-bass, and carrying it makes me smile. I plan to add an 18", later to fill out the bottom. GK, hits the mark on this one!

Portable Light Amp, incredible powerfull GK cristal clear sound, not too good horn and materials.

    By David Bolanos

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB210 2x10 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

    PROS

    500W @ 4 ohms/ This amp works with 350W @ 8 ohms and 500 @ 4ohms.

Neodymium speakers reduce noise without the horn activated, and produce cristal clear sound.

    Compatible with Gallien-Krueger 115MBE 400-Watt Cabinet.

    Portable and Ultra Light

    CONS

    Tweeter(Horn)

    Very cheap materials.
500W @ 4 ohms/ This amp works with 350W @ 8 ohms and 500 @ 4ohms.Limiter helps a lot to prevent distortion.2 x 10" neodymium speakers(yes! it is completly true they do not make the usual ceramic speaker noise and their sound its better)Active 4-band EQ with contour(this cuts the midrage frecuencies and boost the high and low which provide unique sound)Compatible with Gallien-Krueger 115MBE 400-Watt @ 8ohms (Ultra Light Bass Guitar Cabinet with Horn)Tweeter(Horn) is the only problem of this amp specially with pasive basses, the horn makes static noises. I did not have this problem with my active esp bass, however with my thunderbird I did, so I rather turn the horn off to avoid noises when using the pasive input. I checked the owners manual also called GK and they said that some pasive basses have partially active electronics as well, so you have to pluggled it into the active input to avoid these noises but it reduces the volume about 40% which it is normal on active basses but not pasive basses.NOTE: THERES A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT BOUGHT THE GK MB212 BECAUSE IT IS A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE AND IT HAS 12 INCH SPEARKES BUT WHAT THEY DID NOT REALIZE IS THAT THE MB212 IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE EXT 400W OHMS CABINET AND IT HAS 4 OHMS POWER.
Obviously materials had to be light but the silver front cover with the GK logo is really thin and it bends easily so it does not protect the speakers properly in my opinion, so you have to be very careful when handling this amp, also materials look very cheap and the amp is manufactured in china, the speaker materials and the base feel as hard styrofoam seriously. I hope not to have problems because of this.
Fair price, but it think it can be sold for less because of its constrution.
