OVERVIEW

Now even more portable than ever.

The Neo 212-II bass cabinet from GK's Artist series is now lighter and smaller than ever before-is a front-ported cabinet housing 2 custom-designed cast-frame neodymium 12" loudspeakers which deliver high sound output at a fraction of the weight of conventional speakers. A Paragon horn tweeter delivers your top end with brilliance and clarity.

The Gallien-Krueger Neo 212-II performs beautifully, with consistent response from top to bottom, plenty of definition in the highs and midrange, and a fat low-end. It switches between standard full-range operation or biamped with GK's biamp system. Both Speakon-style and 1/4" connectors are provided. The Neo 212-II bass speaker cabinet is constructed from rugged 11-ply poplar, wrapped in heavyweight Tolex, and fitted with sturdy, interlocking corners and a 16-gauge steel grille. 600W power handling. 8-ohm impedance.

    Comments about Gallien-Krueger Neo 212-II 2x12 600W Bass Cabinet:

I have been a 410 disciple since the late 1990's I've always associated this cab configuration with superior bass performance and punch.

Recently, I began to tire of my very heavy (98lbs each) Eden 410XLT's. After 13 years of owning two of these monsters, I wanted something lighter, which would fit in the back seat of my sedan. Also, I began to read about the many sonic benefits 12" drivers provide, such as even response on all spectrums, lack of boominess, etc.

After weeks of research, I took the plunge and purchased a Gallien Krueger NEO 212II.

    PROS:
-Weight: These cabs are so light (52lbs), that I can carry one with one hand, if desired.

-Tone: These cabs are far more aggressive than my Eden's. This of course is a subjective PRO, and may vary among users. My Eden's had more of a softer, cushier, rounder tone. The GK's are just a lot more edgy, if that makes any sense.

-Controls: I only use the cab in full range, but paired with a newer GK amp, the cab has switches that allow the user to select the mode of their choice.

-Castor sockets: So nice that I don't have to break out a drill to add wheels to my cab.

-Tolex: I haven't owned Tolex cabs in a while. They clean so much more easily than carpet cabs.

-Speakon & ¼" inputs: Nice for all situations.

-Cable: This cab includes one nice GK Speakon cable that is bi-amp capable.

-Size: The narrower depth of this cab makes placing two of them in the back seat of my Accord a total breeze.

-Made in USA: In a time where music gear is all being made in China, it's good to own new stuff that is made here.

    CONS:
-Handles: I loved the deep dish handles on my Eden. The GK's use those cheap spring loaded handles. However, being that the cab is so light, comfy handles aren't super important.

-Lack of in/outputs: The GK has ONE Speakon and ONE ¼". If you're ever in a situation where you want to daisy chain two cabs, you must use the ¼" to daisy to the next cab. I would've liked to see two Speakons and two ¼" in/outputs.

-Soft cab: The wood on the cab is kind of soft, and dents easily. This cab almost requires a padded cover during transport.

-No castors: The cab comes with castor sockets, but no castors. Even weirder is that the 410 NEO comes with castors. This was not a huge deal to me since I ordered better (3" wheel) castors online.

-Fragile grill: The grill appears like is prone to bending and denting easily. This was not the case with my Eden.

I was so happy with my first NEO 212II, that I bought another one. I hope they last me for another 13 years!

      Comments about Gallien-Krueger Neo 212-II 2x12 600W Bass Cabinet:

I've been wanting to get away from the old school fad of 4x10s for several years after seeing a couple guys playing 2x12 or 4x12. The difference is night and day. I spent a lot of time trying out all the 4x10 cabs by live side by side comparison of Eden, Ampeg, Hartke, SWR, etc and the SWR Goliath III was the best ... and it was paid for so I waited until it started 'farting' on the low end of my 6 string bass. This time, I just did internet research and took a chance on the GK Neo 2x12. Now, you can talk about the amount of air you are theoretically moving, you can talk about the large percentage of people still falling for the 4x10 units but I am here to tell you this GK 2x12 shreds ALL of them. It don't complain about the lowest of low and covers the highest of high perfectly. It's warm, growly and punchy all the way through and makes a hole in the mix better than any 4x10. Did I mention it is half the weight?! I will be getting one more for when I play outdoor gigs and I won't even need the main sound system to blast away.

      Comments about Gallien-Krueger Neo 212-II 2x12 600W Bass Cabinet:

I play Bass for a Metal / Rock band. I have a GK 1001RB II head and a pair of Neo 212 cabs. I can use one or two cabs depending on the venue. The cabs and head use a Bi-Amp system, whereby a frequency filter separates high and low frequencies into a 50-Watt high freq amp and a 700-Watt low and mid freq amp. These amps then power the tweeters and main speakers separately. The Neo 212 speakers are wired to accept a special GK 'Speakon' cable that carries the signal to the woofers and tweeters separately. The cabs are shipped with one of these special 'Speakon' cables; they only work in Bi-Amp mode when paired with a GK Bi-Amp head. The cabs may also be connected to standard speaker outputs on any amp head with ordinary speaker cables and used in 'full range' mode. A rotary knob on the cab adjusts the power balance between the woofers and tweeter when used in 'full range' mode. Bi-Amp mode allows me to overdrive the bass and mid frequencies without distorting (and potentially damaging) the tweeters, and can create an overdriven sound I really like.

The cabs are light enough to be carried by me alone without straining my back. They have decent handles in the side. I can fit two cabs in the trunk of my Jeep. The Cabs have shaped feet that interlock for stacking one on top of the other in 'portrait' or 'landscape'.

I have included the con, "breaks easily", and I should amplify this statement. The cabs seem to be very well made, but I wouldn't expect the Tolex covering to be bulletproof. Also, one of my cabs arrived from Musician's Friend with the tweeter hanging out of its hole. The hole was evidently a little too big and two of the 4 mounting screws that hold the tweeter did not have enough wood to hold the considerable weight of the tweeter during transport. I rotated the tweeter and put the screws back in so that there was a little more 'meat' of wood for the screws to bite into and it's fine. I emailed GK customer service to let them know about this. They replied within 24 hours and insisted that they replace the unit, and informed me that this was a known issue that they have now addressed by improving the hole tolerances on later models of this cab. I had received a version made before this improvement. They sent a new cab and a label to return the old one. Excellent customer care. Nevertheless, I think I'm going to be very careful with these cabs to keep them looking good and working well; they're not going to withstand being bashed around. Perhaps that is a downside of equipment designed to be light; it cannot be made as strong as a bank vault.

The guitarists in my band have Marshal Half-Stacks and the drummer plays with venom. My rig has the power to overwhelm everyone if I so wish. It has any tone I want. There is no system I know of that I would rather have.

      Comments about Gallien-Krueger Neo 212-II 2x12 600W Bass Cabinet:

Picked up this cabinet to go with my 1001RBII head. I love the clear, punchy tone. It's light enough I can carry it with one hand. Very well made and great looking. I added casters to mine to make it even more portable. This is the best sounding bass rig I have ever owned and I have owned many.
Light, easy to carry, great tone!
Very well made. No rattles or problems with it. Nice looking cabinet. Some don't care for the silver grill but I like it.
I bought mine used so it was a fantastic value. Even at regular retail this is a great cabinet for the money!

      Comments about Gallien-Krueger Neo 212-II 2x12 600W Bass Cabinet:

I've had this cabinet for awhile now. I've used it in punk bands ,I've used it in metal bands and I've used it in a rock band. This cabinet handles it all. I use it with a GK 400 RB head from the 80's. I also have an Ampeg cabinet (410 HLF) that I don't get out much because I like this one so much. Half the wieght of my other cab and sounds just as good. I use a big speaker cable and good cords too to help get that good tone.

      Comments about Gallien-Krueger Neo 212-II 2x12 600W Bass Cabinet:

This cab rumbles! Great lows. I have been using the GK Neo 212 cab with a Gallien Krueger 700RB head and an old Gibson EB-2D bass. The head itself is rated at 380w but this is plenty for this cab. It shakes the house and scares the dog. It exceeds my expectations totally. The bi-amp and full range feature on the amp do not limit you to a Gallien Krueger head. This is a plus if you own an Ampeg or a Fender Bassman head or any other brand that doesn't utilize a speakon conection. The neodymium speakers really make a differnce too. I'd much rather lug this around than some combo amps I've had. The quality is what I expected from GK, very well put together and solid construction. Very good value for the money!!

I bought this cab about 5 months ago and it has just been a joy! It really is a sweet rig with a 1001RB-II, and it cranks when you need it! My grill was a little loose upon arrival, but after unscrewing it and screwing it back on, the buzz went away. Great value for such a great piece of gear!

I have added it to my GK 4x10 neo cabinet, which i also run a Mesa Boogie carbine 9. When i shift into 4ohm mode it is like my amp has nitro added to it. It sounds full with just the right amount of bottom and top end to the whole cabinet sound. Very happy camper now!!!!

I use mine this way. Sits flat on stage on supplied coasters. GK MB500 fusion sits on top, goes directly into cab. Sony Beta 52a mic to run into the house. Warwick custom shop 5-string into Compressor with mid attack and mid release, 4:1 ratio. From Compressor into a High Pass Filter set to 75 Hz. From there into the rig. I have bass knob on the Warwick on full, humbucker on series. Bass EQ on amp is on full. Bass boost is on. Other three EQs are at noon. Simple set up in a fairly large room with about a 25' ceiling. Lows to die for, sustain with the HPF, NO FARTS from this cab. This is all I need. FOH puts me into the house but everyone on stage (about 8 of us at times) hear and FEEL the bass from this cab. I highly recommend this for mid-volume gigging and for a personal stage monitor.

I play Spector and Ibanez through an GKMB800 and this cabinet delivers. It delivers great bottom-end while still cutting through higher mids and I play with two overdriven MESA full stacks beside me in a classic metal band. I just added the second NEO2x12 Cab and It's rippin it up with a tone I love. Lots of headroom left on my micro MB800 too!! I am a GK man period. MXR Effects all around is serving me well also. Cheers.

Well, I have had this cab for a few months now and am in love with it. With my 1001RB-II it is a great cab, and it's a lot of fun to be able to control your sound as much as you can with this setup. The only issue I have with this cab is that the grill is a bit loose, and it rattles sometimes when you play. It isn't enough to really worry about, and it doesn't rattle all the time, but it is something I would have liked to see fixed. Still a great buy though. Go GK!

                    Comments about Gallien-Krueger Neo 212-II 2x12 600W Bass Cabinet:

I wrote my first review on this cabinet back in November. Since then I've changed from the GK 500 fusion to the GK 550 fusion. The 500 was putting out 350 watts into this cab. The 550 has been bench tested at 560 watts at 8 ohms and it shows. I've had to move this rig off the stage behind a curtain. Lots more lows and punch. I've turned the HPF down to about 50 Hz, as GK says the port frequency for this 212 cab is 43 Hz. Same bass but much louder. If you play rock or blues or country in a small to mid-sized venue this will be all you need. For a larger room or outdoors just add a second 212. I wouldn't add a 15" cab as the power would not be even. Just get a second one of these, the 212 NEO cab.

I would recommend this to any friend!

                      Comments about Gallien-Krueger Neo 212-II 2x12 600W Bass Cabinet:

I've been playing electric bass for 45+ years and I've owned a lot of bass amps as well as bass guitars. And I must say this GK with twin 12's in it linked up with my Laney Nexus 500 watt head is the perfect combo for my needs. I had tried numerous boxes, some with 4-10's, 1-15, but this GK with the 2-12's has beat 'em all. So if you're a serious bass player and you want a box that will deliver the lows and highs you want....get you one of these, you won't be sorry.
