This amp is awesome, but it does take some tweaking to get just what you're looking for. The controls are all very interactive with one another, especially the volume and boost...but that's definitely a positive aspect of the amp, as long as you've got the patience to really dig in to it. One thing to note is that since it's a one channel, if you crank the boost you're not going to be able to get crystal cleans unless you roll off the guitar volume a bit. But using the bridge humbucker of my PRS and cranking the guitar volume gets awesome, thick, punchy overdrive. Then flipping the pick up switch to the middle pos and rolling the vol off a bit it cleans up really well with just a touch of dirt if you wail on the strings. Chimey and bell like all the way!My only complaint is that if you put fx in the loop it weakens the signal and it gets a bit fuzzy and more difficult to clean up. I just ended up putting all my fx in front of the amp and it cleaned up just fine.Overall I would highly recommend this amp to anyone looking for something comparable to an AC30 but more reliable and with a bit more OD once you push it. Anything from jazzy clean to crunchy alt tones and thick dirty od can be dialed in.Plus it looks cool with its blue power light and such, which is just an added bonus.

Excellent class-A, EL84-based, single channel amp, with dial-adjustable/footswitchable boost circuit, Gain, 4-band EQ, 5-position voicing dial, reverb, master vol, FX loop (no Level dial), jacks for speakers (not hard-wired!), ext. cab jack, 2/4 tube power and pentode/triode switches. 2 Red Fang 12's - wonderful tone w/o low-end flab. Top-notch build quality & components. Good clean headroom. Takes single coils & HB's well. Makes your favorite pedals SING. A Vox AC-30 and Fender Twin rolled into one! If you want a class-a, this is IT.

Was on the market for an AC30 or an Orange. I came across this amp and the search was over. Dimension, clarity, versatility, chime, articulation, beef, and TONE all are terms that describe this amp. I use it to write, record, and perform all of my music. 5 voicings, and variable wattage 8w/15w/30w settings make this amp perfect from the bedroom to studio to gig. I am able to play with my daughter sleeping in the next room, and then it just knocks my socks off and can EASILY drown out the hardest hitting drummer. The voicings make this amp cater to and love everything from my 335 to my strat to my SG. Only downer is lack of 2nd channel, so you can't go from very clean to very dirty on the fly. I use it for cleans with hair to sludgy OD with the boost engaged. Great amp, built very well, much better than the AC30. Fantastic amplifier!!

I've had everything from Fender Hot Rods, Marshall JCM2000's, Vox AC30's, Mesa Rectos, and Peavey Classics, even Line 6. This amp is the only one sitting in my basement out of all of them. Why?? A few words:ClarityPunchVersatilityChimeDimensionWarmthThis amp sounds incredible from bedroom volumes to drowning out a hard hitting drummer. I have never encountered such splendid tone in my 7 years of playing. The response is unmatched, and the overall tone is more similar to the AC30 than any other amp. The cleans are spot on, but the dirties breathe fire and are more articulate. Also, variable wattage settings 8/15/30 are an enormous benefit for bedroom practice, recording, and gigging. I use this amp with a fender strat, gibson SG standard, and an Epi Sheraton, and it works great with all. The 5 multiple voicings (dark,bright,natural,deep,thick) cater to whatever guitar you're using. I have extensive experience with tone and the only other amp I use with this is a Rivera Chubster for grab 'n go. For recording and gigs, I ONLY use the Black Pearl. Also, this amp is VERY well made, and has nice components. Well built for the gigging and working musician that has many needs to suit with 1 amp. The only caution I give is to know that this is a single channel with boost. Therefore, when using the higher gain settings on this amp, you can't go to clean at high volumes. Rather, the un-boosted tone is more of a hairy clean with crunch. For my music, it's bliss, but some may not prefer this.I can use this amp for everything from jazz to hard rock. Not aggresively voiced for metal, but you could do it.
