Owned this amp for a few years now. I have played guitar at a serious level in various styles of bands for roughly 30 years. Lead, rhythm (typically switching between as the only guitarist), instrumental jazz fusion, hard rock, progressive metal, neo-classical, soft ballads, 12 string electric, acoustic piezo, electric violin even, this amp is so adjustable that you can get an amazing tone and response in any situation.
You MUST understand that most guitar amps have subtractive eqs. ON most amps, all tone controls as 10 is the same as all tone controls in the middle of this amp. Most guitar amps don't have boost tone controls, this has cut/boost. Most guitar amp tone controls cut about half as much tone in their eq range as this amp's tone controls. So be reasonable! And the boost in this amp makes is perfectly able to emulate almost any amp out there that has various built-in response characteristics, like AC30, vintage marshall, 80s marshall, dumble, etc etc. You can get close enough to sound and feel like a cousin of those amps, while having at least as much power, more headroom, a better built speaker cab with more low end capability, and complete control over amp performance (triod/pentode operation, can swap in 6L6s if they're your thing).
foot control is amazingly useful.
touch sensitivity is ridiculous - it's an elite amp that you can pick up used now for like half a grand because nobody knows how amazing these are.
Average players with regular amp experience can't control these amps.
Recording engineers love them - but you also can learn to make the most of the amp if you just be cautious with the controls.
- Was this a gift?:
I have owned this amp for a while now and have found it to be great sounding amplifier. I definately think if you are going to buy a tube amp, this is the one you want. It offers great tone and versatility. Of course, it definately sounds better going through a multi-effects pedal. I run my line6 podxt live through it and it sounds amazing definately a better quality tone than a solid state. You will not be dissapointed.
Don't know why you'd hook up a multi-effects to it, but I use a chorus, delay, and wah, and get awesome tone out of it. I use the global attack for my lead boost. You don't need anything else really.
