Valhalla for loopers and delay fiends.

Phenomenally powerful and endlessly versatile, the Gibson TGE-05 Echoplex Digital Pro Plus is a tool looking for an imagination to wield it. The convenient 19" rackmount unit brings together digital recording, sampling, and digital delay so that musicians of every type can utilize these powerful components in both studio and live applications. An amazing 16-bit/41.5kHz RAM recorder lets you playback and record simultaneously making ambient soundscapes, reversed loops, and rhythmic drones easy to create and shape.
It might help to think of the Echoplex as a sequencer for audio instead of MIDI, with all the capabilities of a sampler and a delay effect that ranges far beyond any pedal available. A progressive undo feature allows you to overdub with confidence. You can add unlimited overdubs onto any loop you record.
The Echoplex Digital Pro is designed by and for musicians. The intuitive and efficient controls on the rackmount unit and footpedal make it easy to use and settings are displayed through a multifunction LED. The switches on the optional EFC-7 foot control unit can also be custom configured, and play an integral part by allowing you to access all of the unit's main functions on the fly. Loops can be recorded, overdubbed, reversed, and deleted with your feet, in real time.
The Echoplex is completely MIDI compatible. Performance controls send and receive MIDI; loops and sound files may be saved and loaded via MIDI; and tempos can be synced to MIDI clock.
With 198 seconds of memory, 16-bit realtime digital loops, the capability to layer all 9 loops complete with overdubs, simultaneous playback and record, unlimited overdubs with progressive undos, and tap tempo controls, the Echoplex is peerless.

    Features
    • 16-bit realtime digital loops
    • Layer up to 9 loops simultaneously
    • Playback and record simultaneously
    • 198 seconds of loop/delay time
    • Tap tempo input
    • CD quality recording
    • Overdubbing with progressive undos available
    • All functions accessible in real time with optional EFC-7 footpedal
    • MIDI compatible

No other tool comes close to the cool vibe of this echo monster! Get yours now.

This is a product used by guitarists, vocalists, drummers, bassists, dijeridoos -- in fact anyone who plays an instrument. This is a unique product. It has a breadth and depth of capabilities beyond all looping tools on the market. It has been designed with the input of hundreds of looping enthusiasts from all over the world, including David Torn. The EDP has been in and out of production over the last 7 years. This version builds into it all the learning from each run. While all of them have been good, this is the quietest and smoothest version yet. What makes this product so powerful is the software burned onto a chip that is installed in the device. This software is now in release 4. It is very cool stuff. I recommend you do a search to find the "Loopers-Delight" website for a very thorough investigation of what it can do. Rumour is this product is being discontinued. So, snap these up while you still can. And while the rackmount hardware may go out of production, the team that has written the software are likely to release updates that you can buy on chips and then pop into your unit.Things to know: it's mono -- you need two for stereo. There is a very simple to use and powerful foot controller specially made for use with the unit. And if you are into midi, hooking this up to a good midi foot-controller opens up all sorts of very powerful capabilities. This is a very cool product. Look at Loopers-Delight for tons of information about this.

I must say the new look, Black is much better than the Beige color they shipped with. Upon arrival there already was a dent in one side of the ears. That's bad, but I can live with that. How they get away with stuff like this is baffling to me. The manual is thorough but somewhat misleading. Often times what I found in the Manual was not showing on the device itself. The interface or GUI is non intuitive. There's a bug in the Record button on the footswitch if you "prime" it then press again, sometimes you'll get this horrible buzzing sound until you step on the record button to stop the noise. Some of the features are really great like sync to another Echoplex. I beta tested the "Repeater" by Electrix and found this device in the same league: Overfeatured and non-intuitive. I'm holding on to it because it has a bit more time than my Boomerang. If you want a straight forward user-friendly unit I recommend the Boomerang.

    edp midi capable

    By Skutch

    from san diego,ca

I wanted to add that, as a guitarist I use it mainly with the footswitch and expression pedal, but the MIDI capabilites are what sets this thing apart. It is compatible with sequencers, midi triggers and other continuous controller commands. Have fun kiddies!

Not bad but could be better

    By Bones-_0dm_

    from Salida, CO

I have used this at over 50 shows now as a solo act. I like the unit but it has some flaws. The manual is hard to use and doesn't make sense sometimes. If you do multiple layers on a loop, Degredation is noticeable, it needs to be stereo!!! It needs a "soft mute" feature who's length can be programmed because it just cuts off short and with a clunk. The button on the pedals are too close together for me and dont have an in to link multiple pedals so I made my own. Doesn't tell you where in the loop you are. Gibson, please make an upgrade and I will buy it!

    Awesome piece of gear

    By Echoplex user

from 7th worst city for dirty air

Gets a 9 for features due to its absolutely sweet controllability, but not a 10 because its mono only, which means I'd have to fork out another huge stash of cash to be true stereo. BUT this blows away any other similar product on the market for overall features. Quality 9. would be a 10 if it had a better footswitch- the buttons are close and I ocasionally hit the wrong one. Its UNDO feature often un-does what happened when the wrong button is pressed, though. The unit itself is awesome.Value 8 because it IS expensive, but it's worth it if you need gear like this to play the music you want to. ((...I'm dreaming of stereo...))Overall 10. This suits my music well and I am very happy with it. People who rate this low are likely not technically-minded, didn't understand its usefulness, or really didn't need this in the first place. Do some research on it and if you get it, go through the manual.

    This is THE LOOPER

This looper is quite the most fully featured device that there is. If it seems from reviews that its "just a looper" then that is because some its features are NOT on any other unit and you have NEVER heard of them or thought of them before!!! I bought one and now everything I do revolves around it, it will take over! it IS mono, not a problem, it doesnt have "tracks" you overdub, not a problem...I wouldnt buy this if you "play songs" and wnat to repeat your experience again and again, but if you improvise alot and want to start some where and build something and end up god knows where... this is it!!!Imagine this: You record a one bar phrase, loopit, over dub onto it, multiply it 4 times, overdub a long phrase over that, Divide THIS new loop down to 2 bars (yes you hear HALF your secnd phrase) insert and record-over quantised fragments into your loop, again divide back to 1 bar again, UNDO will now NOT strtch you back to 2 bars again (you could do this by RE-multyplying after all) no, UNDO will scan through the memory of the long layers that used to be there, clocking thru and erasing the layers until you are back to where you started, one bar phrase. Oh you can also reverse the loop and drop it to half speed... what about a short loop (more like an echo) where the delay feedback fades out, AND THEN UNDO, yes the delay COME BACK!!!Unbelievable...

    Great compact loop unit.

    By Bassist5

    from New Orleans, LA

The echoplex is a great compact loop unit. The 198 second loop time allows you to create endless opportunities in the loop realm. With the new features of the Digital Pro Plus you can do about 10X more than you can with, say, a Boomerang. The only downfall is if you aren't very smart in the rack realm, you may have to spend a lot of time in the owner's manual. The good part is that it's really easy to understand. Overall Superb design!

    LOOOP

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Only buy this if you really need to loop a lot....sounds like a disease.I sent this back because it is simply way too much to work with. I thought it would be a better quality. When I got mine, I was disappointed in the looks. The front was warped where the bolts hold the face on. I was pretty suprised. They gave me a credit and they were awesome about it..No questions asked.Thank you! You guys rock. Now I suppose that some engineers know this unit better than myself and would say it's a great unit if you have time to understand it..not me.I'm still moving at the speed of light.Time is our biggest commodity and I don't have the time to lose as most of you don't..Maybe we should all slow down............NOT.

    Very good product.

    By PhrazeMan11

Overall, I think this product is very reliable. Very easy to use. However, if you don't like reading the owner's manual then I wouldn't recommend this product. The tone I get out of the echoplex is CD quality. I would recommend it to any serious musician.
