OVERVIEW

Perfection in a compact digital delay.

Just what is so great about the Guyatone MD-3? Quite simply, the Micro Digital Delay Pedal offers the most authentic note reproduction of any delay device available, period. Notes come back exactly as you played them: Not rounder, harsher, warmer, colder, or altered in any manner whatsoever. If you've ever played a tape echo, you know that their tone is not dark sounding like some people claim, but actually quite bright and clear. The MD-3 gives the user the crispness and clarity of a tape echo combined with the longer delay time of a digital device, while its controls react like an analog unit. 30-2600 milliseconds of delay time are available; more than enough to create an entire range of classic delay effects from rockabilly slapback to arena-rock washes of excess and everything in between. At higher feedback setting (above 3 o'clock) the MD-3 will self-oscillate like an analog delay, creating cacophonous cascades of repeats, UFO-landings, ray guns, and other bizarre sound effects. At lower feedback settings (around 2 o'clock) the MD-3 digital effects pedal can be used for multi-layering of short parts, creating beautiful, ethereal soundscapes that slowly fade into infinity. In addition, the MD-3 Delay has a lower current draw than other digital units, which means you'll spend less time changing batteries and more time playing!

I love this delay. I've been playing for close to 20 years and this is by far the best I've every used. I've had it for a couple of years now. It's so versatile. Slap backs, dotted eighths, long delays - you can do pretty much anything with this pedal. Sounds amazing in an effects loop, as well as in front of an amp (I'm playing through a Fender Super-Sonic). I only wish there was a MD3+ or something like that with a tap tempo feature. I'm actually seriously considering getting a second one to set two different delay times. Only thing negative is that mines eats batteries, but it's now on a powered pedalboard, so that's not an issue. And, it's got a tiny footprint. Buy this delay if you're in the market for one.

This pedal generates an unacceptable level of noise even when used with a regulated power supply. Some people say it's not the pedal's fault and one should check the power supply he/she uses with it. I tried it with two different pro level regulated adaptors. The pedal is useless. Please note that the noise is not on the dry signal. It appears only on the delayed signal which supports further the fact that the processing circuit of the pedal is responsible for the noise. Rubber band to hold the bottom together and other "innovative" design features make this pedal the ultimate p.o.s.I have exchanged my MD-3 already for a real delay pedal.

exactly what it says!

extremely compact, simple to use, very crisp digital sound (if you want warm analog this isn't for you)adds some noise to the signal, but nothing major. rated a 4 for features because there is no tap tempo feature and because the delay feedbacks stop once you stomp the pedal off. some of the boss delays fade out the remaining notes which is my preference. im 50/50 on whether i would buy the pedal again, simply because of the features

Wow -- affordable, super quiet & not shrill

I've owned this pedal for a while now and love using it. No-noise, no digital shrill sound to the delay, easy to control. The best value in Delay pedals. And, it takes up no space on my pedal board. Built well too. Great vlaue. If you're looking for a delay pedal, get this one.

Not bad

The first MD3 I got was faulty (light didn?t work and the battery cable was funky)MF was great with the exchange. The replacement works great however, it does go through batteries pretty fast and the light never seems to light up as bright as it should. That?s kinda odd. But it?s sound is great.

Great Pedal! Crappy Design!

By phayzyre

For the money you simply can't beat this pedal! It gives a crystal clear delay return with absolutely no tone drainage or alteration, as is the case (at least with my experience) with other pedals like DOD BOSS & Electro Harmonix. However this pedal failed to get a perfect 10 because of the design. Not only is it poor design but a silly design, hence the rating of 3 for quality! The battery compartment is is almost impossible to get the 9V in it, but don't even bother trying. This thing is a battery hog so go ahead and buy the adapter! To add insult to injury, it's all held together with a rinky dink black rubber gasket! GEE WHIZ, GUYATONE, Can't you design something better than this mess!!!???

A small Godsend

By x_bruce

Although digital, the Guyatone MD3 delay is warm and designed to act like a vintage delay. It is competitive with everything in and well beyond its price-range.Right now it takes up a tiny amount of space on my pedal rack but has also been taped to my guitar strap. Its not an Eventide or t.c. electronic device, but it's nowhere near the cost whilst still doing a fine job. In a lot of ways it reminds me of an Electro-Harmonix product except cleaner and built better.I'm not sure why some people have been dealing with shoddy workmanship, but the two I own never have caused a lick of trouble and have great battery life.

I received a lemon

By mpg2

from Harrisonburg, VA

I wouldn't bash this pedal because I thought it sounded good. I actually prefer the overall effect tone, pedal size, and simplicity to my Boss DD-3. Unfortunately I received a lemon. I noticed the pedal pop a couple times during the first show I played - one week after purchase. A few days later at home the pedal would be on and the effect would just suddenly stop working leaving the signal completely dry (I guess that's better that killing the signal all together). This company was great about returning it. The Guyatone Compression pedal I bought at the same time is working great.

Perfect Size

By DBean

from Artesia, NM

This pedal is the perfect size for any pedal board. It is small yall! Very small, but the sound is really good. To me it is a perfect delay. It does not have an over powering sound, more of a soft accent. I love it!!!!

I love it

By Cottonwoody

This pedal supplies a great deal of quality delay. There are plenty of settings and shtuff to mess around with. Sound quality is great unless you use really long repeating delays. After about 8 or 9 if the feedback is turned all the way up (note that) it will begin to sound distorted, but if the feedback is at 9 o'clock or less the sound quality is very good. I love it. It's small and it fit right into my pedal board. Makes no noise if used with a One Spot. I have my daisy chain full and I hear no noise of any kind. I would definitely recommend it.

Transparent and Pristine

By Ozzie G

See all my reviews

I had one of these little units and loved it. I play a Strat with sweet pickups, and it was a perfect match for this pedal. I like how the basic tonality of the guitar is not altered...very transparent, pristine delay.Love the self-oscillating feature. I've turned a few heads goofing around with it. Nice range of delay times, too.Definitely get a power unit to plug this thing in...goes thru batteries quickly and not much fun to change. I will rebuild my pedal board soon, and one of these will be on it. I love the small footprint, too. It's a sturdy little bugger, too.A point off for no tap tempo function, but love the transparency of the sound.

Poorly built horrible sounding pedal

By Nawlins Picker

from New Orleans

See all my reviews

First of all, this pedal is VERY SMALL, the knobs are flimsy, the jacks are plastic, the stomp switch is flimsy, and the sound is grittingly icy and treble-yFurthermore, the bottom is held on with a RUBBER BAND, I am NOT kidding, A RUBBER BAND !!!SAve your money and get a better brand of pedal. This one is a MUST AVOID. The people giving this thing a good review obviously don't gig, and don't know what good pedals look and sound like.

Skip this pedal

This pedal just screwed me over in front 200 people. Jeez. The first one I got busted, Guyatone promptly replaced it. To say this thing sucks battery power is an understatement. A fully charged battery will lasts 15 minutes. It is very difficult to change the battery. If you use an adaptor you get an unrelenting hum. Last night was the last straw, thing crapped out on me right in the middle of a song.

Something to think about

I've had mine for a year now. The footswitch went out last night during a gig. It sticks now. I tried taking the switch apart at the show but was unable to get to it, due to the micro board placement in the back. I didn't want to ruin any connections in the dark.Be careful stomping out those solos when the crowd is rocking. I'm going back to a Boss style delay. The sound was a little bright and harsh at 10K for me anyways.I play a Bad Cat amp and Fender American guitars.

Not for serious players, overpriced.

By Vince-MtP_e

I needed a simple delay pedal that would sit on top of my amp so I could run it thru the fx loop. I'd always have it on and use it to add a bit of dimension to my sound. The first time I used it a brand new Duracell only lasted about an hour or two. The battery does not fit in the casing properly, and the rubber ring is a tedious joke to get back on. When iot's working, this delay sounds terrific. I didn't bother with a power supply, it's just too inconvenient. I'm returning this for something more standardized and reliable. I expect the battery to last at least 4 or 5 hours, otherwise there's not much point in using a battery at all.

Impressive little punk!

3 knobs, so it's an easy unit to use. I bought it for use with my bass because, obviously, you don't need a delay that darkens a basses sound. It works great with my guitar, too! I still favor the my Deluxe Memory Man for guitar work, but with bass, it's the micro delay. A great value & no noise with the power supply.

Cheap, Small, and Rockin

By Penelope Red

Had buyers remorse from the price of the Boss DD-6, and was running out of space on my SKB pedalboard. The micro-delay is a godsend. My wallet is happy, and my ears agree. The s-m-l switch is G-f'n-money, and the casing design brings a smile to my face. The control knobs are a bit close to the footswitch, but I don't mind, she's worth taking care of, and she hasn't disappointed yet.By the way, they mean what they say, the tone she puts out is exactly what you give her. If you want bright and jangly, use a bridge single coil, if you want tape warmth, flick it over to your neck humbucker. I love this pedal!

OK

No bells and whistles. But it is small and felt solid. I have the Guyatone trem that I've used for about a year w/ no issues. This pedal was ok. Nothing special but when you kicked it in it would let out whatever was stored in the ram which kinda stinks. Quiet and fairly priced. Just not my thing.
