The Rumble MOD is Hao's ultimate overdrive pedal. This overdrive/booster pedal uses hand-selected components to provide the purest, smoothest, thickest overdrive ever. The problem with most OD pedals lies in mismatched input/output impedances that can make components work overtime. The Rumble stompbox's input and output buffers provide proper impedance matching, allowing its circuitry to focus purely on generating the fattest overdrive possible.
Rumble MOD creates a unique and highly musical overdrive effect. When a mini switch is set to "Boost" position, Rumble MOD functions as a booster and amplifies input signal so that a player can vary the signal strength with pick attack from crystal clean to crunchy overdrive. In "Drive" mode, depending upon setting of "Color" control, Rumble MOD generates from fat and silky to edgy and sizzling overdrive. This "Color" control works opposite of regular tone control and acts as a type of filter control on significant frequency ranges.

A while back, I went on a quest to find the best overdrive available. I live in a town with great boutique shops so I tried a bunch. The Rumble Mod beat them ALL. Touch sensitive, amp-like, and unique in its character. It doesn't hump the midrange or fizz, and it's amazingly articulate. The sound is very reminiscent of an old Mark-series Boogie or a Dumble-type amp. It loves stacking with other drive pedals too! I use a treble booster with it for a classic rock sound.
Totally usable, unique character distortion and boost. Worth every penny. It reminds me of the 'hi-fi' recordings of the 70's. Steely Dan pops to mind. It can be very clear and articulate and still be aggresive as hell. I am using a PRS Standard 22 Satin. This guitar is a little top heavy tone-wise and I generally back the tone knob down to tame it. The Rumble Mod responds wonderfully to this and volume levels. I am finding great sounds just adjusting the knobs on the guitar...it is changing the way I approach distorted guitar tones. ...Really. The boost is also great. It is not transparent. It adds a great layer of color to a distoted tube amp. So if you want 'pure' boost...not for you.
