Comments about Hartke VX Series VX3500 350 Watt 4x10" Bass Combo Amp:

Ive owned one for about 8 months now.
          Dislikes:
Its heavy, hope you like squats.
For some reason I thought when I bought it I found some gem of an amp where the tone was going to be equivalent to really expensive gear. Afterall, all these reviews online suggest its good. Which in the price range it is, I want you to imagine the perfect bass tone costing 1500, and the worst being a free fart. I would value this amp in the middle, 750 which means this amp is worth the money for the tone that you are getting, but its not 1500 tone.

I like the look of it, I have the one with the black head in it. The wheels are a god send. I greatly appreciate that it comes with them and you will as well.

The eq controls are really nice, the compression is ok but passable. I can not imagine getting a good tone out of this amp without using every feature on the head. Unless you are using pedals, then yeah you can bypass the built in comp or eq. But if you are relying on the amp alone you should be using the comp and eq and the rest of the settings. I play an active 4 string Ibanez SRX2EX1. Ive been playing bass for 10 years, Had this bass since 2006 I believe. I used to have gk backline 600 head and vx215 cab. The low end was better on that set up, nice and tight I didnt even need compression. But the upper mids and highs are a little better on the vx3500. I think I might have preferred the tone from the gk and vx215 slightly but I was finally able to produce a good tone I like from this amp after using it for a few months playing gigs

I switched to playing with my fingers so I had to adjust the settings but I find that I enjoy the roundness of my tone much better with no pick on this amp, even sounds good for slap/pop imo.

I use the compression at 6
and just try to bring out out the the tone with my Ibanez's knobs and the amps contours, pre amp, eq, until the tone is round and punchy but without that noisy trebly clank sound you get from the strings.

Comments about Hartke VX Series VX3500 350 Watt 4x10" Bass Combo Amp:

THis thing takes such a beating and never fails me. I've had it since 2004, and have gig'd non-stop with it since. A lot of people are shocked at how powerful it is, and it's tone (tube preamp) is sooo nice. Also, it's on wheels, so I swear to god the portability of this thing is unmatched. I will never reget purchacing this.

Comments about Hartke VX Series VX3500 350 Watt 4x10" Bass Combo Amp:

First, I am a pro touring musician, with decades of experience, currently playing everything from heavy metal to easy blues. This amp does it all...sounds incredible, extremely versatile, reliable, etc.

HOWEVER- Beware that you CANNOT add a second cabinet to this combo.

BUT- Don't let this stop you.
I have a solution. Just follow me here...
I have a 250W Hartke head- same preamp, just less wattage.
I needed more power, so I figured I would buy this combo and add a cabinet for bigger gigs. Smart, right? One problem. This configuration is the ONLY Hartke 4-10 speaker set-up with 4 ohms...the minimum for this amp. Add a cabinet, the ohms drop below 4 and you fry the amp.
So...I was NOT HAPPY. After all...do you trust 4-10s with that amp up all the way? Especially if you are pounding out death metal with a high-output 5-string bass thumping on that low-B? Of course not.
Seriously...if you are playing at a reasonable volume, you don't need to turn that thing up...and 4-10s works fine. Even up loud, it sounds great.
But when you need sheer this-goes-to-11-wall-of-death-volume, I simply do not trust 4-10s, Plus, at larger venues, you need more speakers for dispersal. It would make WAY better sense to have a 4-10 8-ohm speakers in this combo, so you can add a second cabinet when you need all that power.

SO...how did I fix this? I ordered two more Hartke VX 4-10 cabinets. (Musicians Friend gave me a spectacular deal-just ask them) Then, I swapped one cabinet's speakers with the combo. Now, I have the combo speakers at 8 ohms, and a second matching cabinet at 8 ohms.
But wait...don't I also have that 4 ohm cabinet now? What do I do with that? Easy...I use that with my 250w Hartke head. It operates at max power at 4 ohms...and I just happen to have a 4 ohm cabinet. Voila! The perfect rehearsal amp, or if I need an extra 250w for a show, or a backup amp, I have it.

Now...before you panic...if you just need one versatile combo amp to cover everything you need? I still recommend this amp. It sounds incredible.
But if you are a touring pro, and you plan on adding cabinets for larger shows when necessary? Beware the 4 ohm trap...but consider my solution.

IN THE END- Don't be afraid...Get this amp.

Comments about Hartke VX Series VX3500 350 Watt 4x10" Bass Combo Amp:

This amp has killer sound and power, especially for a 350 watt amp. It's one of the best sounding combos I've ever had. The one problem is the weight: it's too heavy. Also, the handle placement is too low, but I just flipped them upside-down.
I bought this amp back in 2002 when it first came out, and I used it exclusively for over a year. It was just so heavy. I finally, reluctantly sold it. I regretted that decision ever since, and that was in 2006. So I knew I had to get another one. I bought another one in 2011, and now I'm happy.

Comments about Hartke VX Series VX3500 350 Watt 4x10" Bass Combo Amp:

This is a great amp and very versatile. If you're looking for a tone you'll find it with this. I have played this amp exclusively for 3 years and still love it. I kept up with a pair of Marshalls with no troubles and had lots of head room. My only complaint is the handle location; they are a little low and create a high center of gravity. This makes carrying it a pain. I personally am able to overlook that due to the great overall quality of the amp. The casters that come on it make moving it around easier. I am more then satisfied with this amp. Tube or solid pre-amp, built in adjustable compressor/limiter,10 band switchable on/off eq High and low pass, If you can't find the tone in here start playing guitar. It has great low end punch and clarity. I play 5 strings and it never struggles with them. The power rating is a very powerful 350w. I have only used the direct out for an out door gig. I've never needed to plug in to the board indoors. This is a combo for the working man who knows and wants true tone.

Comments about Hartke VX Series VX3500 350 Watt 4x10" Bass Combo Amp:

Amp seems awesome and I got it for a great deal. Unfortunately it arrived damaged. One wheel completely broken off, another cracked and several of the corner protectors were cracked or otherwise broken.

Rather than send me the parts to repair, MF wanted to send me a new one. Had to return it and wait for the return to be processed before they ship a new one. Now it will be another couple weeks till i get my amp. Just hope it doesnt come broken again. Not UPS fault it was broken IMO. Very little protection in the original packaging from Hartke.

Lets see what the next one brings.
