The Bulldog 10 isn't a horrible little amp. It just isn't worthy of the nameplate "Hiwatt". It's nowhere nearly as good as the Bulldog 30. The overall sound is transistor-radio-like, and the overdrive (NOT distortion) is weak. However, the volume is much louder than one might expect, and there is almost no hiss, even with single-coil pickups.Alright for a beginner, and maybe it would be better if it didn't have the Hiwatt name, but other than that, not recommended.
As a long time owner and player of HIWATT amps, I am very familiar with the originals. (I have six of them, including two modified by Jose Arrondondo). I also had two of the original Bulldog 100 watters. I have played literally thousands of sessions with them and toured all over the US and Canada with them. They are wonderful and performed flawlessly for decades, despite horrific rock-n-roll abuse. This amp SAYS hiwatt on the front, but it is really just another cheap imported amp. There is absolutely nothing special about it. It is tribute profiteering, greed, and ignorant consumerism. It is nothing at all like a real HIWATT and is an embarrassment to the name.
