Tremendous value in a solid practice/jam/home rec amp. Does what a guitar amp should do and does it well. Plenty of features, but you must take time to figure out how they work together. For example, the EQ is relational, cut one, you are boosting others, the lead channel adds gain AND cuts reverb, the clean channel clips when pushed past halfway, etc. And this is a real "screen door" reverb, producing a deep, rich tone. The FX loop is very handy and sensitive, stick a distortion pedal or even an aggressive compressor and prepare for hum and hiss. My signal chain took some trial and error, but is now wonderfully flexible: Guitar-Multieffects-Amp-FX Loop (echo and vibrato) then the FS-1 footswitch to stomp between lead and clean channels. The footswitch is a practical requirement to max out this amp. The gain is somewhat scratchy, just a dab will do for most tones. As it is, about the only sound I haven't gotten out of this thing is full-on death metal, but for that you should be looking elsewhere anyway. But for an incredible array of classic rock and blues sounds, I don't think you can do better at twice the price.

I have not been pleased with this amp, which I have owned for almost 2 years. It has a decent tube-amp sound to it, but I've found its versatility and performance to be lacking. The various EQ controls don't give you the range of tones that this amp should provide, and the spring reverb is useless. The overdrive channel is way too dirty for my tastes, so I rarely use it all. The line-out jack on the back of the amp stopped working properly after just 3 months. When I attempted to contact the manufacturer in Chicago both by phone and email, they never responded. So much for their warranty. I would recommend the Vox 30w valvetronix as an alternative for the smart shopper.

Best amp ever

EXCELLENT!!!! I use this with my Fender Fat Strat, and it is awesome. There is SOOO much tone. I like playin heavier stuff and i like clean now because of this amp! Both the channels sound amazing. If you want your guitar to sound extra heavy, just dial in bass on the EQ and take out the rest. This amp is freakin loud. I can keep time from the rattle of my desk!!! ANY musician should strongly consider this, BUY IT NOW, IT IS AWESOME!!!!!

a very good amp

By Hatch33

This amp is plenty loud for a practice/small gig amp. It's tone quality is awesome. There is no hissing noise, and the price is the best there is. If your a beggining musician or even an experienced one looking for an amp, you should buy this amp over any other brand. You wont be dissapointed.

Hughes and Kettner 30-R Edition Blue

By i.conner

from Phoenix, AZ

I bought this amp because I needed something a bit smaller and quieter. I play surf style stuff and I couldn't really achieve that tonality with this amp. I loved the footswitchable channels and the clean channel but the lead channel had way too much treble, even when dialed down. The reverb was ok, I would prefer using a pedal but thats just due to my playing style. All in all its not too bad of an amp.

An Ok Amp

I played this amp At my friends house a few days ago and I was not overly impressed. The clean settings are pretty good, but I thought that the distorion was bad. It was just too sloppy for me. It didn't even sound like rock. I don't know if it was just the settings he had on it or what, but I didn't like the distortion at all. I think this is more of a blues amp, so if you like blues, then you'll like this. It does Okay with pedals and effects, not a great sound with a wah, but it gets the job done. I like how the top lights up blue when you turn it on though. I would reccomend to save up a little more and Get a 30 watt Marshall, way better quality for about the same Price.

Great sound for the price

Excellent value. Although a bit polarized (very distorted or very clean) the range of sound is impressive. Great quality, cool backlight, and quite loud for 30 watts.

lil smoker

Great little rock amp. Clean channel has little headroom. Lead channel more than makes up for it, going from smokey blues to full on Dimebag!

Fantastic rock/blues sound!

By Zeewilly

Sounds amazingly like an old 60s-style tube amp, complete with an authentic spring reverb. When I team this amp up with my Rickenbacker semi-hollow 330, it brings out all the full colors and sounds of this guitar. I can get identical sounds that I hear on all of those classic rock and rhythm and blues tracks of yesteryear. I love this amp!!

I Have Had Two of Them Break

By MrPhilBoto

from Who Cares Anyway

It is a really cool looking amp with great features and whatever. But the first time that I got it in the mail it was smashed to pieces. The second time I got it, it workde for a while and the lead channel's volume died and you can barely hear it with the gain, volume, and the master volume on full.

Blue Light Special.... Nice....

I needed an upgrade from my little 15r frontman, and I got what I asked for! Now my frontman makes me wanna cry. I love this amp! It sounded awesome even on my old strat copy/wanna-be, on my Ibanez SA160 it's absolutely rocks! I don't like like the drive, but I hate 99% of all amp drives, get a pedal or 12(BOSS). When I perform at church I have to keep the volume no higher than 2 (I keep VOL/MASTER about the same). This is a LOUD beast, with crazy tone. 1 problem, one of the blue light bulbs blew, but all that counts is the sound!

Peel the paper from the walls.

I've had this little guy for 2yrs or so and I am very pleased with it. The overdrive channel is wicked when needed, but it is the clean channel that really makes this amp special. Dialed in from 1-5 this amp offers crystal clear tones that are simply amazing when cranked above 5 the amp reproduced an heated tube sound that is quite convincing for such an affordable amp. Great kinks-type sounds grind out of this amp making it tons of fun to fiddle with. When mic'd up a simple twist up on the gain and the same down on the master allow you to dial in sounds that you won't get in another amp in this price range. There are some features that I wish this amp had including a speaker jack, but for small gigs and practice or garage work you can't beat this amp!

swell amp

By J Tatum

from Savannah, GA

what can i say, i love this amp. the only thing that has ever gone wrong with it is when i tried to mic an acoustic guitar with it. i got a ton of feedback and some really bad smellin smoke starting shooting out the back of the amp, but honestly i thought it was hilarious, and it didn't affect it at all. i would recommend this amp to any and everyone, you won't regret buying it.

SWEET STUFF

By Ryo

from State College, PA

This is a good sounding amp. I have a lot of effects so i don't often use the lead channel, but without the effects I can't stand anything else. The clean channel will produce whatever the heck you want. Throw on your bridge pickup and turn the clean volume to 10 and you have a Skynyrd-like gentle distortion, or turn the volume down and get the perfect cristal clear tone. The Lead channel will get you from Metallica to Slayer with almost no effort. It is on the same level or better than any combo Marshall, Fender or Peavey has ever put together.
