I often wonder if the great reviews on this site are written by company shills. I can assure you, this one isn't. I have 30 years of playing experience with all types of music, mainly jazz/rock.Two things right off the bat about the Hughes & Kettner 60DFX -If you are a junior head-banger looking for a little rock monster with a cool overdrive channel to bang out your death metal on, get something else.If you are a serious musician who likes clean, pure tone with no coloration, then this is an amp for you. The clean channel on this amp is unmatched. By anything. I got this amp because I needed an inexpensive 60 watt unit to play overseas. I have to use whatever instruments I can borrow since my good stuff is all at home (currently using a Squier strat and a Rogue acoustic). Both of those sound like much better instruments through this amp. It has a rich full sound, but without coloration and no noise. No hiss or hum. It is easily used as an acoustic amp, without needing any additional signal conditioning. This amp has it's niche in my collection thanks to it's unique qualities. It is cleaner than my Twin Reverb and Vox. I can't say it enough - this is the cleanest, fullest, most distortion free tone I have ever heard from an amp. Also - The built-in effects are very nice if you don't feel like hooking up your stuff. They work very well. The reverb is superb. To sum up:Pro quality amp for Blues/Jazz or anything requiring smooth clean tone.Distortion channel may not please everyone (pretty much N/A for me)Built-in effects are great.I really like this little amp.

This amp seemed such a deal that I gambled and bought it without playing it. Mistake! The clean channel was okay, but the overdrive channel was very lackluster regardless of setup. Muddy and lifeless, I'd call it. Upon arrival the amp seemed oddly light for the 60 watts it was. And the workmanship seemed a bit cheap to me. I thought highly of H&K amps before a tried this one out; but now I'm not so sure about the brand. I sent the amp back and got a Vox Valvetronix for a practice amp.

    It's all about tone!

The best blues tone of any amp I have owned, including tubes amps.I know some people won't want to believe it, but the truth is sometimes hard to deal with. Incredible bluesy tone from solid state! Take your neck pickup to the level you wish you could with this one. Wow.A great amp at a great price. Probably not good for metal, unless you want to add a pedal.Incredible tone. Deal with it!

    Wow......

I got this for my friend as an upgrade from a peavey rage 108, for the price you really can't get a better amp in my opinion. The clean channel sounds AMAZING, and the overdrive is very smooth with some fatness, sounds amazing as well, this amp is super quiet when nothing is playing, and it dosnt sound muddy at all, i guess those they say they are might have shoddy pickups....but it sounds great with ours. Effects are pretty good too, though limited in modulation, with the size that's perfectly understandable, so get a pedal if you want. Overall excellent amp and excellent tone you can't get elsewhere at this price PS: digging the blue lighting when it turns on :)

Finally an amp with some tone

    By Old Blues guy

I have a Marshall and a Peavy amp, and if your into distorted sound, they're fine. But if you want a great clean or crunchy tone you can not beat this amp.If you play blues you will not be disappointed with this amp.

This amp is very good, at least for what I got it for. I bought it mainly to use on the clean and it has an amazing clean tone. The reverb and other effects are great too, though the delay is diffcult to operate. The bad thing is at least for mine, is that on lead the distortion is good but it drains the tone. It sounds like I'm playing underwater. So if you want clean get it, but I'd think about it for heavyier distorted music.

    Real Amp - No Gimmicks!

Finally an inexpensive amp with great quality and no gimmicky modeling. It may be a solid state amp but its got that REAL sound of what I expect an amp to sound like. I had a 30w Vox amp, then got a Zoom Fire 36M and they were okay, but that modeling stuff got old quick and I was really wanting a 'pure' amp and this one really fits the bill with me. I like the effects also which can sound vintage if needed too. Easy to travel with too. Great simple two-channel amp and Ive got a pocket pod if I want some crazy sounds beyond clean and overdrive. Get one and rock-on!

    Tone to the Bone!

I have the original German Made H&K like this one. Despite years of heavy use as my "got-to workhorse" it still performs beautifully. I can best describe it as a mini Marshall, because it sounds and responds exactly like my old Marshall that was hot-modded by Jose Arrondondo. When I saw these on sale, I bought one, even though it isn't the German Made model and my old one still works. Thus far, it sounds just as good as my other one and has more features. The internal effects are musical and easy to use. As a studio player, I usually have to bring my rack and tons of fancy expensive effects. But when I go to Blues Jams or play Jazz gigs, this is the amp I bring. I don't think you can find a more realistic Big-Marshall sound, even with a Marshall. The Roland cube 60 sounds good, but they hype the power ratings by using low-ohmage speakers and peak-rating. This thing actually puts out 60 watts RMS into 8 ohms, so it really barks like a show dog. Time will tell if can last as well as my other H&K amp. So far, it's the best price you can spend for a guitar amp. I might buy another one just in case someone steals this one.

    Great for practice

    By MBBumbach

    from Tampa, Fl

This amp is far superior to most practice amps that I have used. It is wonderful for small gigs, though the tone can be a bit muddy. This amp will give a great overdrive sound at fairly low volumes, which is good if you practice in your apartment like I do.

    Great amp, fair price

This little guy rocks! It is simple, not too heavy although it is built very well. Effects are OK too.The TONE is the best part! It sounds as clean as a mini Twin or as Brown as my old '59 Plexi. No, I am NOT exaggerating. This is one of H&K's best and most affordable products. Highly recommended!
