Being a BOSS loyalist, I own a lot of BOSS compact pedals. I started to play blues and the DS-1 is too much while the overdrive line of BOSS is too weak to my taste. I bought a BOSS BD-2 Blues Driver and although it does the job close to SRV sound, l just know that there's something else missing. With a BOSS BF-3, DD-7 and BD-2, my set up sounds great but it is lacking something. I stumbled upon a Blues setting on my BOSS ME-70 and upon research, the blues function of the ME-70 mimics the sound of the TS-9. I took the people's advice and bought a 30th anniversary model.
Needless to say, this TS-9 took the place of the BD-2 in my BCB-60 pedal board. I will still be using the BD-2 on my other pedal boards, (2) BCB-30 which holds 3 pedals each pedal board.
Although the TS-9 is an overdrive, it can be used as a distortion and even better if you use an EQ after it. This thing screams and blows the BD-2 out of the water. Maybe if I keeley mod my BD-2, it might be close to the sounds of my TS-9. But I hate the idea of sending your pedal out for modding. Most people are not aware of electostatic discharge by the human body without proper grounding. It will shorten the life of any electronic devices. Believe me, I do it for a living.
The green LED really lights up when on and it gives this green pedal a nice glow in the dark look. I am thinking about getting another one just for keeps. Who knows, they might go up in value?

I was trying to find a good overdrive for that bluesy SRV type sound knowing that the TS9 or the TS808 was going to be good options, but I read about sooooo many other Tube Driver pedals out there. I didn't want to buy one and find another I liked better, I went to my local guitar store and did a A/B test between a TS808, TS9 30th Anniversary, and a Way Huge Green Rhino. I ended up with the TS9 30th Anniversary. This has the JRC4558D chip!! It has the creamy smoothness of the TS808 yet it has a little more grit. I'm playing through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with a Tele and a Strat. I couldn't be happier!!

Use Drive, Tone, and Level controls to create different tones ranging from mellowish distortion to nice warm overdrive. really comes alive when paired with different types of distortion pedals. I use this after my choices of a Red Witch Ruby Fuzz, EH Tube Zipper and/or my MXR Fullbore Metal pedal. The green LED and electric paint don't hurt at all either. I do wish this was a true bypass pedal, but I have it configured on my bypass looper so all is holy.
Only three knobbies (Drive, Tone, and Level) but that's all you really need on an overdrive pedal.

"That" tone, made in Japan with the desirable chip, the pimp-a55 paint and light... Yes, it's worth it.

BUY IT!!!!
I was looking for a replacement for my 1981 Maxon board Ibanez TS-9, and then I saw this. Killer! Comparing the sound thru my 1959 SLP, I'd have to say it was identical. I have been playing for 36 yrs. (started early ) I'm tellin ya, it sounds as good as my '81. Plus the collectability factor. Buy it before it disappears!
Over the top quality and a KILLER plated finish. The green LED is bright and really cool.
Worth every penny..
