This is the great Ibanez Tube Screamer at its most cost-saving incarnation. Do what you have to do, but I would recommend at least trying this thing out. It's a legend, and if you hate it, at least you will know. Better to at least have a frame of reference on the TS9 because things are going to get compared to it an awful lot.If you are looking for a Distortion/Booster, and you haven't developed a certain pickiness yet, this will be a great buy. The Distortion tone of the TS9 will make for a nice overdriven EL34 lead sound, when used on the clean channel. Also, if you do want to boost the dirty channel of a tube amp, this thing can do wonders. Slide the gain down to zero and max the volume. You will get a huge, loud tube overdrive. Why I like the TS9DX so much is that you can now dial in Four Levels of gain for this booster setting. You should be able to get some serious metal OD out of even the shyest tube amp. TS9+ being my favorite booster setting. If this thing has any drawbacks, it's that it's a little bit midrangey. Of course, that is the exact reason a lot of people prefer it. Also, I wouldn't call it flimsy by any means, but I can't quite give it a perfect score on quality. That's just based on comparison to EHX pedals, which are tanks. If you can't buy this pedal, try one out today. If you end up with a favorite overdrive elsewhere, at least you can compare it to a Tube Screamer, which most people are familiar with.

Overall I think this fills a wierd void space. The TS9 I can see for players who seek that mild, warmish and smooth overdrive, and the OCD I can see for people who want hot overdrive with crunch and definition.

This pedal seems to do exactly what it states, it's like the TS9, but more, it adds more bass, more smoothness, and yes, more drive, but it just doesn't sound all that great. There's no crunch or definition, or tone in the hot modes, or at least not enough for me.
This thing is built like a tank, it take boss adapters, and the casing is just slightly longer than a Boss pedal which means it doesn't fit in my pedalboard very well. But no matter, I like the layout of the knobs, one of them controls the mode. It goes from regular TS9 to Hot to Turbo. The other controls are for drive, tone, and level.

It seems very versatile, but honestly it just doesn't get that hot. The mode switch only seems to increase the amount of bass. In turbo mode it's very hard for me to get tone out of even a single coil bridge pickup and the tone cranked to maximum. I never understood the point of the original, it just seemed to round out the sound a bit, but hardly adds any drive, this adds more drive, but it's nowhere near the levels of something you'd get out of an OCD for example.

So yeah, slightly hotter than the original, but doesn't go far enough. It fills a wierd void space in the guitar pedal world.
Quality of construction and sound is excellent. Too bad the sound doesn't really appeal to me.
Decent value, expensive, but miles more character than something like an SD-1.

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

Overall, this pedal is great and no one would regret it. Its cheap enough for the wanna be's and has enough quality for the pros. It sounds good and reacts well. Overall, i would reccomend this to anyone.
I rate this pedal a 9 because everything on this pedal is great. The different modes are distinct and give different sounds and the controls are great. Now ur wondering why a nine? because i saw my friends carbon copy delay pedal and i was extremely jealous of that bright blue light. This pedalhas a very faint red light. So thats all...
The quality of this pedal is great. It offers a very strong body and thick knobs ur not accidently gonna bump. The pedal reacts fine to ur foot and it really fffeels firm.
Ill give this pedal an 8 cause its cheaper on ebay but i really cant hold it against it. I think i would pay for it again. so

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

Interesting pedal. The added selection of tones seem at first to be a great idea the problem is the tones aren't that usable. Maybe there are some who find a niche for the tones or maybe it works with their amps. I use mine with a non-master volume tube amp on the TS9 or + setting and it really brings out those classic rock tones without sounding like a distortion pedal. The other settings don't sound awful but just aren't tones that I think a person who is expecting this to sound like a classic Tube Screamer are looking for. Given the choice again I'd opt for the regular Tube Screamer.

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

Almost every concert I've been to (U2, Pearl Jam, Vince Gill, Lucero, Silversun Pickups, Eagles) I see this pedal in the guitarists' setups. There's a good reason why so many pro's use this peddle and its sound is great. While I don't know think I would spend the extra cash for the DX version instead over the normal one, TS-9's are some of the best pedals out there. I've owned this for years and play it with a Gibson Les Paul Standard, Epiphone Dot Studio, and Fender 72 Thinline Tele through either a Hotrod Deluxe or a Line6 POD and it always sounds great.

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

Got this pedal last week, didnt have much time to use it on my main amp yet (Crate VTX200S) but it already made my leads tear thru the band' sound ! I played it mostly on a super budget Univox 10w amp and even on that it sounds amazing for that 70's 80's crunchy sound. I was instantly tempted to try and learn Ted Nugent's Stranglehold, the Eagle's Life in the fast lane, Cheap Trick's Surrender, and others. It has THIS sound. You can either use it to boost your signal's volume with little distortion, or put the drive to max and even on a single coil it will be super crunchy. I will agree with the other reviews, the different modes dont have much use, to me at least.

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

Most versatile pedal I own, and I own a bunch. Wide range of uses / genres. I prefer various blues styles, and this has the versatility for the full range. Outstanding sound, and great value.

The battery is easy to change, which is a distinct advantage over some other pedals.

I would like to see added in the next incarnation one feature: multiple DC power outputs to "daisy-chain" pedal power on my pedal board.

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

I used this in front of a Fender 65DLXRVB. I have an LP and use this as a clean boost. It sounds fine, I set it up to match the tone of my amp when on and just boost my volume a bit for leads. I keep the drive about halfway up the tone is at about 3 o'clock. I use it on the TS808 setting.I just don't hear that much difference between the settings on the pedal. I'd probably just go with the TS9 if I had it to do over. It's not really an overdrive pedal, I'd buy the BBE, or Keeley clean boost if I were gonna' use it in fron of a vintage sounding amp. Good pedal though, great construction and very clean sound.

      Good Pedal

      By HendrixFan420

      from Huntsville, AL

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

This is a good pedal but it doesn't deliver the sound I was hoping for. I can get just about as much drive/sustain from my generic factory amp. The thing that makes this pedal good is all the settings, you can get a wide range of sounds from it but it just so happens they're not the sounds I was looking for. I'll probably be trading this one in and getting the TS808 reissue. This is still a great pedal though and can be used for a variety of different genres...rock, blues, heavy, etc.

      this little thingy....

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

Well there good and bad with this one. I like it overall, decent buy i guess, not exactly what i wanted or expected. The TS9 setting is exactly that, sounds just like the stock reissue ts9. The + setting has more low end response and a little less gain while clearer-ish tone and more volume. the Hot setting is crunchy, with about the same amount of gain and still a little more bass response and a little more volume than +. The last setting has the most bass response and even a little less gain, thus a little clearer-ish tone and again a little more volume than HOT setting.I use the Plus (+) setting for a few reasons. I already have a stock TS9 (soon to be modded to 808 specs) second, the other settings have toooo much bass for my amp (fender deville) even with the bright switch on and bass down, too much. The tone is a little clearer and there is more volume than my ts9 so i use it as rhythm and boost with my ts9. With compression (MXR dyna) sounds great, great great tone, great great sustain, very happy with comp. Overall, good little pedal. Unless you want more bass response than a TS9 i would suggest getting a TS9 and get either an Analogman Mod or Keeley Mod depending on what kind of sound you want. If you want smooth overdrive, more gain, more vol., less mid hump; go with Analogman (silver or brown, silver is better) if you want crunchy/lots of gain, more volume, less mids; go with Keeley (Baked has lots of gain) Hope this helps.

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

This is a really good stomp. I been using this box for about three years, but it is over priced for what you might expect to get out of it. It does everything that the original screamer does, and it does have a little extra tweak in the extra settings, but nothing that is going to impress anyone,(Not even a little). Get the standard TS9 version without the extra tweak settings. I use this box in front of twin Marshalls. It does sound great. I set it on the standard TS9 setting, and run the Marshalls clean. If I want the extra crunch, I kick the Marshalls over to the dirty side. I've tried this with just the punchier settings of the Screamer in front of a clean amp. It's okay, but not impressive enough to merit the extra $$'s over the original TS9 configuration. Also, the "sustain" mentioned in the sales description is misleading. If the guitar you play doesn't already have good sustain characterists...this box ain't gonna' help. It won't give you any more sustain than you already have. It will give you a great tone. Nice and full bodied, and creamy bluesy. In summary: It's a good box, but don't buy it for the "sustain" or the extra tweakin' setting. It doesn't deliver on the brag. Buy the standard model TS9 with one less knob for less money.

      For bedroom use only

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

I have tried to put this pedal on my board numerous times but it always falls short. It sounds great in the bedroom at low volumes but always seems to sound boxy when played at gig volumes. It doesn't play well with other pedals at all. I would stay away if you plan to gig with this pedal. If you are jamming at home with low volume, you will probably like it. Just be aware that there are better pedals for that and way cheaper.
A lot of feature for an OD pedal. For features, the only complaint is the LED is very hard to see on stage.
Build seems sturdy, should last a life time.
      Price is good.

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

I don't know if there is a problem with mine, but the settings seem to work the opposite for me. TS9 is thin and quiet but the most distorted, while moving from + through Turbo gets gradually louder and warmer, but cleaner, instead of louder and more distorted. Not what I expected. It is useful however. The variety of tone, level and drive helps control it really well to get it how you want it. I remember playing the original TS when it came out, and this is an improvement. Doesn't seem worth the price though.

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

This is a really great pedal. The other reviews are pretty much right on. The various modes give you quite a bit of versatility. I play a Strat through it, in to a Blues Deluxe. Sounds great; very warm. Don't be fooled however, upon opening this pedal up (and doing some internet research) I discovered that it does not, as the description would suggest, have the same chip as the TS808. It has the same chip as the TS9. It still sounds pretty good, though.

      It's a classic for a reason!

      By 44220602

      from Olympia WA

Comments about Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

Great pedal, good value. It's a classic for a reason.
I'm just starting to explore the options in the Turbo Tube Screamer, but I can see the versatility and from the first chord, could feel the difference from any other distortion pedal I have used. I don't have a large frame of reference for pedals, but have always been a bit disappointed with my distortion. As soon as I plugged it in I felt like I had found the pedal I will be working with for the foreseeable future. I'm still searching for "my tone" (as we all probably are to some degree) and this pedal has enough adjustment to really dial it in.
Strong construction. Feels solid and responds to your toe tap, which is what you want from a stomp box.
Similar price to lesser pedals. Low enough price to gamble on if you haven't played it before.
