OVERVIEW

A fun two-channels amp with great British crunch and modern high gain thanks to two EL84 tubes.

Voiced by Martin Kidd for a distinctively British sound, the Custom 22 brings 20 watts from a pair of EL84 output tubes, and tones come from five 12AX7 preamp tubes. Bright, Mid-boost, and Fat voicing switches supply more versatility. Two channels, and a tube-driven effects loop round out the straightforward feature set.

The updated Crunch channel has less gain than its predecessor and the Overdrive has even more gain. The result is an entirely new voice with greater range and touch-sensitivity. Further tone shaping is possible via a bright switch and mid-boost / low fat switch.

The simple feature set is rounded-out with a pedal-friendly effects loop and front-panel channel switch.

Footswitch included.

Comments about Jet City Amplification Custom JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

It does produce a clean sound, expecially with single coil teles, and strats. Humdingers will produce a little dirt any almost any volume. I wish it had a third channel for clean only, and also reverb. The crunch channel gets saturated with gain cranked. The dirty channel is like every type of distortion you can possibly imagine. So if this were your only amp (I wouldn't reccmmend it) you can toss all your fuzz boxes away.

Comments about Jet City Amplification Custom JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

The sound of this amp is spectacular! Perfect for anyone just wanting something cool to play! On estrange thing about it though is the fact that the volume switch seems to have been wired backwards. Not sure if that's the manufacturers fault or if it was built that way. It's not a setback in any particular way but I am curious. Other than that this little guy is straight up fun to play and a great addition to a home studio.

Comments about Jet City Amplification Custom JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

You know low wattage amps are the rage these days, and I've sampled a whole lot of them. None of them compares to this. There are two channels, I use one for clean and the other for dirty.

The tweakablity just blows me away, I can get such a wide range of sounds from this thing at a gig. The real strong suit of this amp is the Distortion channel, its Raw sounding and has a tight bass. I love it so much simply because it doesnt have that High end sizzle I heard with most EL84 based tube amps.

The low end is also suprisingly good too, which is also rare for an EL84 amp. This is my perfect amp!

      Great amp for the money

Comments about Jet City Amplification Custom JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

For the money this is a good amp. Definitely no real cleans whatsoever to be found. However, that is not what this amp is designed for. The reports of effects loops issues seems to be addressed with this amp. As far as sound goes great crunch on channel 1 and even more crunch on channel 2. The reason for the 4 stars vs 5 is that this is a noisy amp. You will definitely need a noise gate but even with one channel 2 is still extremely noisy.

Comments about Jet City Amplification Custom JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've put close to two months of band practices into this head, so I hope I can provide some insight for other prospective buyers. I've owned a lot of amps. Fender Hot Rod DeVille/Blues Jr., Bugera 1990/333, Marshall DSL 15H, Blackstar HT-1/ID-30, to name a few. So there's our baseline for comparison.

This is a great amp. 20 watts is a great wattage for tube amps. Loud enough to play in a full band setting, but low enough to play at a reasonable volume and still have some tube saturation.

Cleans: The clean channel surprised me the most with how rich and full the tones are. I don't recommend this amp if cleans are your primary concern. This is a rock amp. But the cleans sound great. Turn up the volume and keep the gain low and the signal will stay pretty clean up to a useable volume in a band setting. Turn up the gain and you get a dirty clean which, with my Strat, kicks out a sweet John Frusciante tone that just can't stop.

Drive channel: What a roar! The tone is 100% British high gain crunch and growl; the circuit is based on Mike Soldano's famous SLO overdrive circuit, but Martin Kidd (Victory amps) has tweaked a bit here and there. There is a LOT of gain on tap here. No boost pedals necessary to play hard rock or metal. In fact, the drive channel might have more gain than the classic rock folks really want. A Fulltone OCD or tube screamer in front of the clean channel adds a nice medium between the clean and drive channel.

I sold my Marshall DSL 15H because this did everything it could do, with a much fuller clean channel.
