Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack:

I want to make this a follow up to my earlier review. I've had this amp for almost two years this summer. It consistently gets use every week where I lead worship. And I'm sticking by the fact that you can't beat this amp for the price.
My only draw back at this point are that my sound guy is typically saying that it's lacking bottom end... Of course after tweaking we get a usable tone... but I'm finding myself wishing for other options tonally... call me lame but after two years I'm just not satisfied with it as my foundation tone....

So my verdict is: there is simply no amp in this price range that can compete. The build quality, looks, and general tone are AMAZING... but be warned.. you may start to fall for something else.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack:

I have never done a review before so I will tell you about the things I had questions about when I was looking into this amp. Can you get a metal tone from the amp? Yes you can, but not a death metal sound if that's what you are looking for. Does it take pedals very good? Yes it does. I have several pedals I use with mine and it sounds good with about everything I throw at it. Will my 7 string sound good with it? Yes it does. I can get the sound I want from it and it doesn't sound muddy like some of my solid state amps. It also sounds good with low tuned guitars. I can get all the sounds I want from it and it wasn't hard on the wallet. This is a very loud amp and it doesn't have a headphone input so there is no quiet practice time with this amp. Overall this is a great amp for the price. I knew it didn't have reverb or an effects loop so I knew what I was getting when I ordered it. If you need that then you may want to look at another amp. Enjoy and keep picking!

Sounds like a JCM800 Marshall V1-JJ 12ax7 standard, V2 and V3 TAD 12ax7s. In the power amp I have P1 JJ el84 and in P2 TAD el84. My Guitar is a Les Paul Standard with Seymour Duncan SH5, with one volume and no tone pot cap. I use Monster Rock cables. This amp is very sensitive to volume setting and pick attack. This amp produces the quintessential hard rock sound.

Will out-tone amps worth 10x as much

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack:

well, it's only fair since it exceeded every expectation in a tube amp...let alone a small inexpensive one. Well no it's not fair because overall this amp deserves an 11!
I give it 10 because going into I know what to expect from a single channel amp. All features and settings are very usable, extremely versitile, and you can get a lot of different tones from the amp. I am a tech head/engineer so the Preamp section of this amp I don't rely on as much as the power section.....I use outboard preamps for any overdrive and can really tune in the tone with onboard features. And yes It will do BROOOTAL metal. I would actucally rathar record with this than any high watt amp costing 3000 bucks...and it's loud enough to drown any drummer in a gig setting, especially with the right cab....VERY modable amp...you can do it ALL with this amp....Bone stock you are getting a modded JCM800 in this head....
Bulletproof Construction! Cases are tough, nice tolex...you can tell that QC is a big deal. And the sound...well you simply won't believe your ears....WALL OF SOUND! Best sounding amp I have owned. I actually made money trading my old amps for this, and I am never looking back....JCA 4 Life!
Please...not only is it one of the least expesive...I down right outperforms amps costing a whole lot more

Fall in Love with Guitar Again

            By William Howells

            from Vancouver, WA

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack:

What can I say that I haven't said already, I'm a fan. I love this amp and speaker cab, and although admittedly I am no expert in "gear" (have I said that enough yet?) I am an expert in knowing when I hear something I like, and the tone this amp gives me, I like (or love!).
I've never been a "gearhead", or been very knowledgeable about amps, effects, etc. Been playing for 35 of my 45 years, but more as a personal thing than as a "musician". So imagine how it felt when, after all that time, I finally found a product that made me understand what people mean when they talk about "tone." This thing replaced my line 6 spider III (see, I'm not a gearhead!), and for the first time ever I really "get" the idea of loving a piece of gear. Cosmetically I find it very appealing, but the sound, well - it's honestly more "real" than anything I've ever owned or played through. Yes, I know it's not a botique amp, but for me, it sure feels like that, and more.
I was a bit reticent knowing they are manufactured in Asia (as I like to buy American often), but I can't say enough how pleased I am with the quality of materials and construction. A solid 10 in my book.
I would pay triple for this, and still be happy. I like it that much.

            unbelievable value

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack:

I can't believe what a steal it was. if you're looking for a lot of effects or bells and whistles, this isn't for you, but if you want a good, well-built all-tube amp with a ton of volume and killer tone, this is the one. i play a fender mexi tele and an epi les paul standard through it and it sounds great. even sounds okay with my epi acoustic put through it. can't beat this amp, love it.

(i took a couple of points off features because it's a very basic amp--as i said, no effects, etc. quality a 10 because it's built like a truck, value a 10 because of what you get for the price, and overall a 9 on the balance. but really, i love it, and as long as you know what you're getting and what you're not getting, this is an easy 10.)

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack:

You won't find a tube amp at this price that has as many tone options as this one, and lets just face it....the JCA12S cab comes with an Eminence Speaker. NEED I SAY MORE!?!?!?!
This amp is great for all different styles of music. You can get a nice clean Jazz tone, many punchy blues tones, and even some metal. Don't listen to people that say this amp can't be used for metal. Just turn the Gain to 9, the Bass to 9, Presence between 0 and 2, and adjust mid and treble where you like, then just crank the amp. METAL tone. I don't play metal, but I am very impressed with the tones you get out of this amp. Don't let the "one channel" fool you, this amp is no joke.
Great quality! You will think you are playing an amp 3x as expensive as this one.

            Versitle Bang For Your Buck

            By Ben Manis

from Marietta, GA and Statesboro GA (for college)

            Ask me a question

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack:

Like I said this amp can be extremely versitle and great if you're smart about it and don't just turn knobs expecting to sound like mayer. If you use humbuckers (which i assume every tom, dick, and Harry who buy these amps do) don't expect a huge ton of clean head room. But remember, gain should not equal you're volume, while it will increase you're volume, its gonna always bring overdrive to your sound no matter what your amp choice. Be smart and patient with your purchase and don't just assume that since you can't get amazing fender cleans past 3 on here that its a bad amp (the dials go to 9! so think about it as going to like halfway on a normal amp. Mine reaches about 5 before any breakup so on any other amp that'd be above halfway!)

Seriously though this could be the beginning of a long relationship. While there are plenty of other brands I'd love to have. This is completely practical and too good to give up. especially in this price range.
Incredibly simple set up, people complain about single channel amps because they don't want to take the time to dile in a tone that can stand as a platform to build their sound from. This amp has all you need regardless of whether you're into pedals or want to go straight into the amp. I'll admit a tube driven reverb like the combo would have been nice but if you aren't driving the tubes and want to use a reverb pedal go ahead, if you are letting the amp wail away, then maybe you'd want to look into an effect loop mod. Otherwise this is all you need.
Very sturdy, classy looking (though still not sure how much I like the logo...one day i like it, the other I don't...can't decide). I haven't had it very long but it seems like it could take a beating as much as any other amp.

Sound wise this thing is much more versitile (at least in my case) than people make it out to be. Of course it has great tone to its overdrive like almost everyone else says, but It actually has very usable cleans. This may be just my experience because my tele has fairly passive pickups and not humbuckers but I can get all the way on the master volume and about half way on the pre-amp/gain before I get some distortion on the neck pickup. the bridge is a little hotter and breaks up slightly sooner but not near as much as people talk about. So clean head room is very reasonable for me. Nice acoustic-ish, boutiqish, (WARNING NOT FENDERY) usable cleans. HINT: the presence knob actually comes in handy in the clean category, gives you more bight and closer to that vox chime.

My pedal set up isn't the greatest and probably sucks a lot of tone out of the amp (Line 6 pod live xt) but the amp takes it great through the front as long as I don't have the amp simulator on the pod, which many pod owners know what I'm talking about. Delays sound great and overdrives build off the clean tones I've found. I haven't had to use my guitar volume really to clean things up. But I've pulled off to the best of my ability some U2/edge like sounds, which also include basically all contemparary praise and worship sounds, and on the opposite end I've gotten really sweet black keys style tones and classic rock tones.
I know the guys at Jet City probably built this amp with Classic rock and good old crunch in mind, but if you're smart about it and don't rely on Gain as VOLUME you can get a very versitile sound out of this head. Of all the lower priced amps this will probably be the best value of any unless you just really have to have the fender brand on something in which case go ahead and spend the extra 100 or so.

            Jet City half-stack

            By legobrix

            from USA

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack:

I've had my Jet City half stack for about two weeks now and I'm very happy with itNote- I use an Ibanez AR305 with dual humbuckers and volume volume, tone tone knobs and a three way toggle switch.
            Initial Thoughts:
When I first took it out of it's box it was a lot larger than I thought. Nothing wrong with this, it was just surprising.
It looks BEASTLY! pictures don't do it justice. I think I'm in love.Pros:EPIC tone. Probably the best tone of any amp I've ever even thought I could own. Has that tube distortion sound no solid state amp can ever replicate. Does stuff like classic rock, blues, acoustic-like cleans, and I can even get great metal tones if I tune to drop C. If I played this amp for someone without letting them see it, I really think I could convince them I was playing on a high-end Marshall or something similar.Built like a tank.
Louder than you'll ever need unless you play in a band. If you put the volume to four it's at a loud bedroom volume.
Cleans up nicely if you turn the volume on your guitar down, so much that it's almost like having multiple channels.
Easy to carry. There are lighter amps (it's probably about forty pounds total) but because it's split into two parts it feels really light.
            Cons:
Doesn't seem to take distortion pedals very nicely. Whenever I put my BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone before it it sounds really bad unless I turn my BOSS' volume knob most of the way down. It doesn't take my Digitech Overdrive very nicely either. It DOES however, take my Crybaby wah better than my old solid-state Marshall ever did.
I really haven't been able to get that many variable tones using the amps controls. This is probably because I'm not very experienced in setting an amp, and other people certainaly disagree. However, I can control the tone drastically with my guitar's controls, so it hardly matters.THE AMP ISN'T LOUD ENOUGH TO KEEP UP WITH A DRUMMER! So far this is the only real problem I've had with the amp. I may have a very loud drummer, but when I completely cranked this amp (every knob to max) I was completely drowned out in the mix. Keep this in mind when purchasing the amp.Overall- this is a great amp at a great price- great tone , built like a tank, looks cool... completly worth the cost (which is a fantastic price for a tube amp. ESPECIALLY one with tone like this one.) Don't be afraid to buy it.

Boutique sound with out boutique cost...

            By Matthew Hackney

            from Canton Tx

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack:

I can't say enough good things about this tone box... cause that's what it is a box that just paints a thick wall of sound that makes you really feel like a rockstar, not to mention a metric ton of sustain and a warmth and clarity that you don't get out of solid state at high gain.

this amp is ready for pretty much every thing you can think to throw at it I can get jazz, blues, rock, and 80's metal tones out of this guy with my cruddy New York Pro Les Paul with shotty electronics and sub standard pick ups. if you have any moderate to high gain pickups this amp will scream for you.

and like I said earlier it can be obsceenly loud out right demolishing anyting solid state below sixty watts. I haven't had to turn it past half power to shake my buddy's house and over power his solid state.

Overall I would say this is the perfect starter setup for someone wanting to learn more and test the waters with a tube amp. the only thing you might not like about it as a newbie switching over from solid state to tube would be the lack of onboard effects... but for me the sound that this thing produces is well worth having to run off amp effects.

I would say this is the perfect tube amp for people looking to get into tube amps and see what they can do sonicly... cause overall
This amps is pretty decent feature wise. The only thing I find limiting is the lack of a effects loop meaning with out modding the head I have to run my pedals through the front end of the amp.

The Eq is nice and allows for a lot of cut or boost to basic bass mid and treble bands but I would still recomend a EQ pedal for any serious tweeking,

The tubes themselves are quite nice. The pre amp tube has a nice sound to it and breaks up quite nicely at mid gain going straight into that AC/DC type crunch and progressivly more snarly as your approach max gain. overall the sound out of the amp is very crisp and responsive to change.

as far as the speaker cab goes it dose it's jobe... puts out sound and dosen't distort or become dirty at higher volumes.
This amp is very well made if your worried because you heard that they used cheaper parts to make this amp rest assured it dosne't feel cheap at all.

That said I wouldn't recomend dropping your rig off the second story balcony of your appartment it's not going to survive anything to out landish but should be able to handel most gig situations.
this amp is a fantastic value for something comparable your looking at spend twice this for just head, not to mention the speaker cab...

Also include the fact that it smokes any solidstate sixty watts or below with ease it's well ready to play most small to medium venus perfect for the garage band trying to get out and gig. It's also a great practice amp sense it still plays nice at bedroom levels.
