I bought this amp without even seeing or hearing one other than online. I have been playing guitar for 48 years, a recording engineer for 30 years and I repair amps as well. So speaking from experience and having owned amps from the 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's 00's, & now 2011 here are my thoughts: POWER: Simply put more power than you will ever need. Perfect for any venue unless you are playing in a stadium. TONE: all three tone controls do there job just fine and in using them in conjunction with the very "MAGICAL PRESENCE KNOB" you can dial into just about any tone you will ever need from Bach to Rock and Over The Top. GAIN & MASTER VOLUME: I agree with most reviews that the amp breaks up very soon. Master on 10 and gain on 3 is when mine starts to break up. However, If clean is what you want, It is easily taken care of by using a compression pedal with the volume up. This cleans it up a lot. REVERB: I have no problems with mine it works great. It has a hint of reverb at lower volumes and adjust to good old surf reverb sounds of the early 60's as you increase it. I'm not sure why you would want anymore than that. I prefer just a hint of any effects when using them and I rely mostly on the amps capabilities when I play. CONSTRUCTION: Very Solid, Made of wood and this also ads to the mid range tone giving it a warm sound more pleasing to my ear, Yet again I say the PRESENCE KNOB works magic if you desire less of a mid range tone. Also very light weight to carry even for this 60 year old man. DESIGN: BY Soldano, what can I say, Incredible design comes to mind, congratulations. NOISE: My amp does not make any extra noises until you turn both the gain and the master volume all the way up, At this point I get good old natural feed back. Over all the amp sounds just a bit mid range but again depending on what you use with it and that MAGICAL PRESENCE KNOB make this amp the best in it's class for power and sound with a lot of tone variety. PRICE: Considering others in its class for twice the money, I have to say this is as good as anything out there and for only $299. I think it is an unbelievable bang for the buck. This amp is a great place to start for the tone fanatic and it is easy to build off of what it offers to create even more tones as you experiment with different effects, tubes, speakers etc. Overall for me, It is the beginning of a long meaningful relationship. I am more than pleased for my money.

OK, at first I thought it was pretty nice but after the new wore off ... it is different, and has more preamp gain than any of my other amps but; the reverb is weak, not as far as amount of reverb but quality and the presence control doesn't do much then it's way too much. This is like a lot of other lower wattage amps, if you want cleans you'll need to back off on your guitar volume quite a bit. After playing with both the combo and the JCA20H, (the JCA20H head I played is the older model with metal toggle switches), IMO the JCA20H is a lot better amp, it has decent tone and quite a bit of potential. The JCA2112RC has a tone that I would describe as "blah", I'll will admit that I'm spoiled and I'm pretty much a vintage amp circuit fan ...

Great Value, Great Option for Rhythm Guitarists

By Mativa Tupe

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have not played out with this yet but I have 2 shows coming up at the end of the month and I can't wait to unleash the fury. Last night I cranked it up LOUD and it sounded crisp and sexy, I really couldn't be happier right now with this purchase. I play rhythm guitar in a blues cover/original band, and for what I need, this is perfect. I don't rip solos and I don't play a strat, I provide the beef in the songs, so this single channel amp works great. I have different settings for different songs, and of course you have to utilize the knobs on your guitar to get the tones you want. I am getting an overdrive pedal but you really don't need one with this amp, it has a wide range of tones and plenty of crunch as it is.
This is a simple amp, pretty straight forward so there was no expectation for a plethora of features. It has everything you need for a single channel tube amp.
I am new to tube amps so I can't say whether or not the tubes are the best but as far as the design and look of the amp, seems good to me. The only exterior parts I would expect to get broken at some point or another would be the corner pieces...unless they are metal or aluminum, I can't tell what material they are. Knobs are solid, handle is solid, not too heavy, overall quality for me is 8 out of 10.
Boutique amps are awesome, and have awesomely high price tags as well. The main reason I purchased this amp was because of the reviews and the demos I watched online. Having a beast of a tube amp and an additional 12" matching cab for the price is amazing. I was using a Line 6 Spider III before this, and while it had tons of presets and effects, it holds nothing to this Jet City beast for blues tones. 20 watts is a lot louder than you might think...

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

i played first blues gig with mine this week...this amp delivers....about same weight as a deluxe reverb....not heavy..the deep cab gives max punch....i changed speaker to eminence for better tone and good bottom end and changed phase inverter to a 12av7 to lower the fuzz some..that is all i did..this thing cranks like a great marshall/vox but wont make you deaf..it is not a heavy metal amp, as some think..but i guess it could be, if you want to waste your life,.,....it has a great blues rock crunch if you want that....and it does a good el-84 vox clean sound at lower settings, after the mods......i got no complaints from soundman and i was very happy with cranked stage volume..i use a compressor and a preamp boost pedal with mine and that really smooths out the tone with a tele...but still i play LOUD..and this amp will bite...its a tad on the high end sound side but theres ways to deal with that and its not shrill or cheap sounding at all..it runs very quiet and feels like good quality...the cab is very resonant..,..i love mine now...i may have to buy one more just for a spare, as these are discontinued..what a price,..!...its cheaper than a crummy modeling combo...

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The only reason I didn't give it a higher rating quality-wise, is that the Tolex covering is a bit thin.
I've had this amp for a little over a month now, and am completely satisified with it. It's hard to believe it is only pushing out 20 watts. It seems that over the years, my wattage has been getting lower, but my sound has been getting better. This amp is perfect for the kind of music my band plays. I was torn between this and the 22 watt Bugera. The determining factor was the design by Mike Soldano. I did some on-line research, and read the company's history, and ordered it from Musician's Friend without ever playing through it. At the price, I figured I could do that. I was more than plesantly suprised when it arrived. The first guitar I played through it was a Les Paul with a Burstbucker in the bridge position. It screamed. Amazing tone. I then plugged in a Les Paul Special, with dual P-90s. Again, what a sound. I pplayed it in my garage for about 45 minutes before taking a break. When I went in the house, I said to my wife, "Can you believe that thing is only 20 watts?" She told me it sounded more like 200 in the house. Once I plugged my Les Paul Junior with a single P-90 into it, I was in love. The reverb is incredible to my ears. I also have a variety of Music Man, Vox and Carvin amps, but this has become my favorite. I've rehearsed and gigged with this amp, and there is no problem cutting through the mix. In fact, last rehearsal, the other guitarist in my band - who uses a VHT Pitbull - said, "Rocko, you're scary loud over there." I set it thusly: Gain - 3, Reverb - 2.5, Bass - 6, Treble - 4, Mid - 5 and Master - 6. I also got the Jet City matching 1x12 extension cab. That completes the rig. Not only does it sound great, it looks cool too. Other than that, forget the naysayers. This is a great sounding, affordable amp that performs like those costing three times as much.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

so my main amp is a Marshall JCM2000 TSL into a marshall 2x12. Great amp great variety of tones but very heavy and bulky for small gigs. so i started looking for lower wattage tube amps. naturally i started looking at the fenders and marshalls and soldano's, but they were out of my price range. so then i saw this amp. at first i was worried cause i hadnt heard of JCA. When i saw it was designed by Mike Soldano himself my intrigue grew. so after some market research i found a lot of people were digging the 20watt combo. So i ordered it before playing. Something i had never done. when it came on the 23rd i was so excited. so i plugged in my H/S/H 1991 American Strat plus with dimarzio fred in bridge lace gold in middle and dimarzio PAF in neck. Great axe, my workhorse. And it sounded great. Rolled back the preamp gain and pumped the master. Had a great jazz tone with a little bit ala john scofield bill frisell area. perfect volume for quartet settings. tweaked the eq a bit and rolled the gain up. gain at about 11 o clock you start to get a nice classic rock crunch with great overtones and harmonics on held notes. roll the volume up even more and got the screaming lead tones of jimi and the other heavies. volume up to 3 o clock and you have a great modern marshall roar. then i had the bright idea of putting my Boss DS-1 and my Electro Harmonix LBP boost pedal. And the gain just drips from your fingers. Great hard rock/fusion lead tones. heavy rythm tones. so sensitive to articulation and tone knobs. roll back the volume and you volume knob becomes your gain volume. keeping great tone and volume all the way down to 3 on volume knob. Great Jeff Beck tones. This amp does exactly what i need. Flexible tone pallet. simple interface. and BALLS. and the best part is if i need more volume i just plug it into my marshall 1936 2X12 for even more headroom and volume. Great Amp great price. reverb sounds great. everyone should own one of these. would be great for recording.. Hope this helps happy holidays

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Pretty much a Chinese manufactured clone of the Soldano Astroverb 16 112 combo. Like the Astroverb, it only has a single channel, but there is an excellent variety of tones available if you take the time to experiment a little. Played clean it lacks headroom. That said, it does a rather good impersonation of a pushed Blackface if you roll the mids back and bump up the bass, treble and presence to suit. The clean lacks the beautiful 3d shimmer of my old Super Reverb, but it IS useable- just not very loud. The reverb is quite good and provides useful, vintage-style sounds over most of its range.Higher gain tones cover the full range of Plexi crunch up to and including Soldano crunch (note: that is NOT the same as Soldano lead). It has one of the tightest EL34 bottom-ends I have heard, too. IMO, the OEM Chinese tubes (Shuguangs, I believe) suit this amp perfectly. AC/DC, AFD era Slash, Thin Lizzy, EVH, Aerosmith, southern rock, cow punk et al. is easily found with a few eq and gain tweaks. As you can probably tell, this amp isn't about twanging out clean, articulate country licks or chording smooth jazz... it's about rock tones made with spicy humbuckers- and this little gem loves higher volumes. It sounds a bit dry when played quietly (bedroom volume) with the gain up and the master down, but really blooms when cranked and is definitely loud enough to gig with. Construction quality seems high for the price paid. The only real issue I have noticed is that my power indicator flickers from time to time and the cabinet has an occasional buzz/rattle on certain notes that emanate from the front panel around the logo somewhere when the amp is cranked up.If you don't play clean and you don't play bone-pulverizing metal, this amp should be on your audition list whether your budget allows for something more expensive or not. Recommended. :D

If you don't like this amp then there's probably something wrong with you. Seriously. There is much to love here. I can't recommend it enough.
It's basic, but everything you need is there. Just the fact that you can get tube driven reverb at this price point should make you want it.
Extremely solid. It's put together better than any other amp I've ever had. Some will bash on the "no name" tubes, but the tubes you buy from any manufacturer were probably all made by the same company that made the tubes for this amp.
All tube tone in a comboat this price?!?!?

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp mainly because of the price. As soon as I got it, I took it to a friend who is an amp builder/wizard. He took it apart and checked it all out. I was happy to hear that for the most part, J.C. used quaility components unlike a lot of relatively inexpensive tube amps out there. There were only a couple capacitators he changed out, for bettter quality ones. He's going to change the preamp tubes, and he's going to modify the sockets for the power tubes, so I can put JJ 6V6s in there (he recomends 6V6 over the EL whatevers that are oem - says they sound more clear, and overall better). I was happy with the sound with the original tubes. We'll see what happens when we put JJs in there. I'm really pumped up about this amp. Especially since I got the used "Like New" deal for only 240 bucks! In any case this is an unreal deal. Soldano has really come out with an inexpensive product that has nothing to be ashamed about in quality. The quality is at a very high level for this price range. I don't think any other companies have been able to manage this low of a price for this level of quality. Thank you Soldano!

Needed a bit more presence than my little 5 watt Bugera, and this Jet City JCA2112RC amp does a great job. I stick with the warmer tones, but this amp really loves dirt. Saving for a JCA24s cabinet to round out the picture. Well made equipment at a bargin price.

Follow up

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a follow up on the JCA2112RC I have owned for 6 months, now.The amp has held up well, with the only issue being a bad pilot light. An email to Jet City got me a replacement in a week's time. Otherwise, the amp has been great!I have done some tube rolling, however. I replaced the OEM tubes with JJs. I have a matched set of EL84s on the output, a balanced ECC83S (12AX7S)in the phase inverter socket, another ECC83S in V2 and a ECC81 (12AT7, which is a basically a lower gain version of a 12AX7) in V1. The reason for the ECC81 in V1 was to knock the gain down a bit and clean up the amp some. I read reviews here that say the amp plays loud cleanly... I suppose my idea of a clean, loud tone has been biased by Fender tube amps. Don't expect that kind of volume out of this JCA. And yes, I read the instructions and cranked the output volume and cracked the gain. With average output humbuckers (Ibanez Jet King with Super58 pups), my amp started to break up around the 1.5 mark on gain with the OEM tubes. :)With these changes/upgrades, the amp sounds unreal! Response is improved and harmonics, while great before, are to die for. Clean headroom has picked up enough to satisfy me, too. The amp still sounds a bit dry and wooden at low volumes, but when turned up to the point that you have to speak loudly to be heard (and beyond), the amp is simply magic.Kudos to Jet City for offering such a high value product. With the retube, I would gladly put this amp up against any Marshall or Boogie 1x12 combo for blues and rock crunch tones. Like I wrote in my previous review- no matter what your budget, check this amp out!

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp took me awhile to get used to, at first i thought it sounded alright but then I could not stand the tone. Ive had this thing about a year now and have found some of it's 'SWEET SPOTS' When you finally get her dialed in right it purrs. It does alright at lower volumes, I find anything under 3 on the master sounds a bit frizzy. Once you get it up to about 6 it screams. My typical settings are: Gain 3, Reverb 6(reverb is nice and warm), Bass 2-4( this amp is really bass heavy ), Mids 7-9, Treb 2-4, master as loud as everyone two blocks down will let you! Presence 1-3 sometimes on 6 with some sounds much higher than that is just too bright unless you have a very dark sounding guitar. Awesome amp takes pedals nicely, Id reccomend running a tube screamer or OCD with it, really likes those. Only thing that would be nice is an effects loop

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've played for 15+ years through a panoply of amps (Sovtek Mig100, Ampeg Reverborocket, '67 Bandmaster, Tweed Champ) and this one is one of the best values I've ever encountered. It's a very solidly built amp with great components. The feature set could have added an effects loop and second channel, but frankly that would be asking a lot for this price range. The gain is outstanding and goes from subtle break-up and crunch to fuzz. The reverb is nice, but not as present as I would have wanted. And Jet City's service is spot on. My indicator light fizzled after 2 sessions and the mailed me a new light and installation instructions hours after I sent them an email. In all I'm very impressed with this amp. ...now to play with different tubes.**originally mis-posted for the half stack--the review is for the Combo**

Very satisfied with this purchase. Amp is nice, price was even better. Even at the new price this amp is a steal if you're looking for basic tone you can tweak and build upon.
Only a single channel. It's taking some getting used to as I usually use a Boss GT10 thru the power section of my Fender DeVille. I bought it as a practice amp, but now I've Dug out all my old stomp boxes and I'm having a blast building sounds the old way. The 20 W is loud enough to gig with. I already had the 1x12 extention cab so it's a cool little stack, one open back 12" & one closed.
Seems solidly built. Have to wait & see
I got this used in 'mint' condition at a great price. MF did me right once again. I got a tube amp at the price of one a small modelling SS amp.

This is regarding the Jet City 20W.I couldn't stand the lack of headroom. With the gain all the way down and the guitars volume rolled back, there was a clean sound, but it was thick, muddy, and it wasn't very loud. This amp will basically always have some breakup if you play it at good volume. This amp sounds good for plenty of gain but forget playing clean. Crank the master with the gain on 8 or so, roll the presence back, and whale away on it... it's great for that, but I wouldn't buy one.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have been playing for around 20 years. Play mostly Classic Rock some Metal new and 80's. And fool around with Blues when I get the chance to jam with my brother. This amp will do rock and most metal with no pedals at all the distortion side of this amp is where it shines. Scoop the mids and get a very mesa-style sound. Mid at half way will give you a very 80's metal sound. And mid at 10 gives you a very british grind. The presence control is very sensitive it can help you taylor the sound very well. With some time with this amp you can find a distortion that will suit most styles. Now cleaning the amp up is more difficult with high output humbuckers this amp wants to distort. Now in a recording aspect it works fine but in a loud live environment it is hard to do. But overall you would be hard pressed to find this quality of sound anywhere near this price range. I have owned Fender, Peavey and Marshall amps in the past and by far this amp has the best tone for the money I have ever purchased. And It is very loud for being rated at 20 watts. The construction is top notch in this price range. Hope this helps.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Very nice amp. If you like 70's Marshalls, you will love this amp. I either play it clean with the master cranked and a Boss ME-70 for channel switching or punch it in the face with a mid 80's
Rat. Great tones either way. Reverb is o.k. I wanted a compact 1x12 tube amp for times I
don't feel like dragging around a head and 4x12 cab.Plenty of volume. I mic my halfstack always anyway. Will this replace your halfstack. No.
But there are lots of great tones in this little monster.
    Very good amp. Good tones.
Been going 9 months without a problem. First one had an issue with shipping. Strange buzz

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

So much tone, so few dollars. Jump on this bandwagon while the prices are so low. Not a ton of clean headroom, but very functional, nevertheless. The joy happens when you roll the gain up. Takes my pedals very well. Sturdy, portable, rockin' tone for under 3 bills--whoa! Jet City customer service is second-to-none.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been playing for the better part of 25 years, but I've been playing acoustic guitar primarily for the past 4 or 5. I let most of my stuff go, but held on to my 89 Les Paul Standard. I recently got the itch to hear some thunder, but I sold my amp a few years ago. So I was looking around for a decent low watt combo. I saw a few amps in the local music stores I liked but were a little more than I really wanted to spend. My friend told me about this combo. He just bought one for his son. So I grabbed my guitar and went to see him and try this thing out. This thing really blew me away. His son had the gain cranked (think old school metallica). I backed it off a little and bumped up the bass and got some killer sabbath rhythm. Turned the presence up a little and was sort of in the realm of Dio and Judas Priest. Turned the presence all the way down and backed down the gain to about 5 and was in ACDC (Angus) Territory. Backed the gain down to about 4 and was hitting some serious Skynyrd (think Saturday Night Special) sound. Dropped it down to about 3 and could hit ACDC (Malcolm). Really no matter how I set this thing, I could play something that sounded awesome. The reverb was set to a tad under 3 the whole time. It's a very subtle reverb, but very effective.I ordered this amp as soon as I got home along with a Jet City Afterburner and a Dunlop Original Crybaby. Crank this amp up a little and it really shines. I ran it through a friends 4x12 Marshall cab, and wow... just wow!! I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Definitely recommended.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Lets get these reviews sorted out, this amp does have a usable clean tone, you just have to adjust it properly to get it. If you go past 2.5 on the gain, it starts breaking up lightly and will continue to get dirtier the further you push the gain knob. This is a SINGLE channel amp, so there is more to be had from this amp with fine tweaking of the gain and master knobs. That said, this amp is built to throw down some of the best rock tones you can get this side of $600. If you want spanky sparkly cleans, get a Fender Blues Junior for your cleans, hook up an A/B switch and use this amp as your lead tone. It will nail any rock sound from the 70's thru the 00's with the proper tweaking of the gain/master, aside from extreme metal tones. It's definately bigger and heavier than your average 1x12 combo amp, but the excellent tone you get from it is well worth it. This amp is a redonkulous value! I have stuck my DSL50 in the closet and forgot about it and the cabinet. I may pull it out only if this fails at some point on a gig. I use the jet city 1x12 cab underneath it, and I don't miss my Marshall one bit!
