I bought this Jet City JCA22H, after owning a JCA2212C Combo for over a year. That combo, was also a stupid deal, and aside from microphonic tubes, and a faulty bias pot, has the sound of any amp I've owned. I have owned a lot of amps over my 35 years as a semi-professional guitar player. Including: 70s Fender Champ, Fender Champ XD, Hot Rod DeVille, 70s Acoustic 450 Head, Fender Dual Showman, 70s Fender Pro Reverb (hot rodded with master volume), Lab Series by Moog, Fender M-80 Stereo Chorus, Pignose 30 watt tube, Marshall JCM 900 with 1960a 4X12 cabinet, Peavey 130 Special, Peavey Prowler, Peavey Classic 30, and dozens of analog and digital effects. This 20 watt Jet City designed by Michael Soldano, blows them all away. Having 2 foot switchable channels of Crunch, and Overdrive, with independent Gain, and Master Volume is uber useful. It gives you the ability to play every genre, from brown sound, to Soldano overdrive. It has a tube buffered Effects Loop, that I utilize for modulation effects, allowing me to use the amp's tube gain. Stick a Tube Screamer in front of it, and it's over the top! The closed back cabinet is loaded with a quality 16 ohm Eminence speaker. There are 3 speaker outputs, 1-16 ohm, and 2-8 ohm, to add an external 16 ohm speaker. I use 2 - 8 ohm 12 cabinets in series, and it's LOUD, and bleeds EL84 tube tone! I'd like it to have reverb, and a channel switch on the amp, but I have a reverb pedal, and after warranty, it will have a channel switch. I had this puppy in my cart for 1/2 an hour, before hitting BUY. I have a bad back, and tis amp is just about my lifting limit, so I don't have to rely on others to carry it!

I'd read some good things about this amp, and figured I'd give it a try. I played it through different cabs with a Vintage 30, Alnico Blue, and Greenback. It was really not great through all of them. Harsh, thin, buzzy distortion. I got an RMA the same day it arrived and put it in the mail the next. I wouldn't recommend this amp to anyone for any style of music.

JCA22H 20W

By Brian Rebernak

from Undisclosed

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I own Marshall and Mesa amps and have been a working musician
for 20+ years. I have compared the tones and dialed in settings
that are comparable to my hot rodded vintage Marshall.
This amp will serve you well if you:

- Change the tubes ( fixed bias )
- put a line boost in the fx loop for leads
- Keep the gain at about 4 on both channels
- Master volume at atleast 4 to really get the tubes working.
- Keep the front end signal clean. Wah is good, a Tubescreamer sounds great also.

Throw out your MetalZone , Line 6, and other bad sounding pedals.
I'm sure at this price this amp will attract many new guitar players looking
for affordable gear. It's a great choice. Just keep it simple. Too many
pedals, especially straight in, will muddy up your tone.
It should be good to be true....but all I can say is wow!
The Jet City line peaked my interest a while back,
but a single channel amp with no fx loop wasn't practical.
I gig around 40 weeks a year in small/medium/ and large
venues.
The JCA22H has given me a really good tone,
Great volume control and a very portable set up.
Built like a tank.
Changed all the tubes to JJ's.
Mostly preference,
but I kept the Chinese tubes as spares,
they sound decent, but give the amp a bit more hiss.
I have never bought any gear made in China,
but this amp seems solid.
It's a straight ahead tube amp, without all the
ic chips and other goop that will break or malfunction

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Best Tube Amp Head for the Price! Very solidly build amp and foot switch. Incredible sound in crunch and overdrive modes. Clean may not be as clean as some would like. But that doesn't matter, because NOTHING BEATS THIS TUBE SOUND! Words cannot describe the incredible sustain from this amp. Features also include fine tuning with adjustable bass, middle, and treble. This thing gets really loud really quick. I only have one 12" 8 ohm speaker, and level 3 sends vibrations throughout the entire house (2000 sq ft). I really can't say enough good things about this amp and purchasing it through MF. I would do it all over again if given the opportunity.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I only use tube amps. I've tried a couple of solid state amps and I could never get into them. This amp is amazing and when you consider the price it is mind boggling. The description says it is related to the JCA20H and I don't believe that. The JCA20H would do an OK clean and the gain was fizzy. This amp hates clean. This amp wants to go play in the mud, drink beer and have a good time. Flip on the overdrive channel and this amp wants to do hard drugs and kill small animals.

I do wish the gain knobs weren't so sensative. It would be nice to dial in a little crunch and then a little more. You can pull back on your guitar's output a bit and then you get more shades of grey with the gain on the JCA22H but I'm a simple player that leaves my guitar's volume up all of the time.

I payed just less than 3 bills for it but I think it's a steal at 4 too.

    Great amp

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm very happy with it. At first I wasn't sure. It sounded kinda fizzy and bright, but the tone controls are very interactive and after spending a good bit of time with it over the weekend I've found how to dial it in to my exact liking.
Basically the JCA20 with an added high gain channel and FX loop. Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence and Preamp Gain controls. Everything you need. Doesn't have reverb but thats not a deal breaker for me.
Its built solid. I haven't looked around inside the chassis yet, but from what I've heard it was built right. It comes with cheaper Chinese tubes, but what can you expect. They have to cut costs somewhere and its pretty cheap for a full re-tube on a 20 watt EL84 amp. I ordered some JJ EL84s and a mix of Russian 12ax7s, but the stock tubes don't sound bad at all.
At this price point you can't ask for any more. It blows the other amps away in its class with ease. The Rebel 20 for example has some neat features, but up against the JCA22h in the tone dept it falls short. The Rebel 20 may do well at the Brit flavored classic rock type stuff, but so does the JCA22h and it also does high gain exceptionally well... 80s metal to modern high gain. Enough gain on tap that you won't need a boost if you so choose.

It's all right but if you are in a band go for the 50 watt model

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm only writing this review to let buyers that are debating whether to buy this or the JCA50H - based on volume needs - know that you are better off with the JCA50.

Volume wise, the JCA22 and 50 both hit the (overdrive channel) sweet spot at the exact same setting - about 3 or 4 on the overdrive master channel. I played the 22 side-by-side with my 50, same cabinet, same guitar, and there was virtually no voume difference. And the thing about Jet City Amps is they sound awesome but you have to get past 3 on both the overdrive and normal masters in order for them to sound their best. Below that, they sound squishy and compressed.

Live, 3 to 4 on the master overdrive is more than enough to be heard over a drummer. It's fricking loud! Same with the 22H. LOUD! I would imagine if you played the JCA22H with the masters on 5 you'd blow your ears out on a normal bar stage.

Second, clean headroom on the normal channel is a little better on the JCA50 but not much. They both stay relatively clean to the same volumes - plenty to play on stage.

So why pick the 50 over the 22? Once you get to three on the Master Overdrive the difference between 6L6 Tubes and El84 starts to become obvious. The 6L6 are bigger, rounder, fuller and more dynamic. The El84 is compressed and fizzier to my ear. Really sort of boring.

Just for reference I play live with my Preamp normal on 2.5 for cleans and my pre-amp overdrive set at 3.5 for crunch.
This amp has all the features you could want in a low-cost tube amp including two channels and an effects loop.
Quality on Jet City Amps is generally good. I've had the JCA50H for nearly two years will little problems. However, this model showed up with a loose bias wheel which really had me upset until I figured it out by chance and fixed it with a little bend to the left. Also, screws strip easily on JCA heads so remember that when removing faceplates for tube changes.
You can't buy a better sounding, better built EL84 tube amp at this price point.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is a great sounding amp when coupled to a good speaker and cabinet. My intentions were to build a nice cabinet and fill it with one or two well matched speakers. I received the amp and plugged it into a friends cabinet. It sounded great and lived up to it's billing. A great amp at a great price. However, when I started pricing the cost of a worthy speaker, money and time to build the cabinet, I opted for the Bugera V22 combo amp. I don't think you could go wrong with either and your not paying for a costly add campaign, or a boutique name. The amp performed as advertised and I have no complaints.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I picked up the JCA22h on a Stupid Deal of the Day for a steal which makes it that much more of a bargain. Even at the regular retail price, it's a great value, although at that price point there are a few other models you might want to consider.

This amp is solidly built for a Chinese import, is super portable, and is plenty loud to gig with. The gain channel is very similar to the JCA 50 watt head, and the crunch channel is very useable for a variety of styles.

My only two complaints would be the lack of a true clean channel (you can roll back on the guitar's volume and get a passable clean, but it's not ideal if you need a pristine clean tone), and the fact that it's an inherently bright amp (that can be remedied with some EQing and/or the right speaker).

All in all, this amp is fantastic for blues/rock/metal players looking for a portable and giggable head. I would highly recommend it!

The only thing this head dosen't do well is, super clean. With that said I love the clean sound on this amp. The first channel can do it all with your guitars volume pot. Then the second channel is there for over the top super fun to play. I've had a million high priced amps and they're cool for impressing people but really not needed any more this amp is fantastic on gigs(I'm in a three pieace clasic rock blue band) and great for lower volumes at home. If you're a marshall guy you'll love this little crunch monster.
