I got this amp while Musician's Friend was blowing them out during their President's Day Sale for 299. I've owned Marshalls, Oranges, and Peaveys and I have to say that even at the regular 699 price, this amp is just as good (if not better) than all of these. If you love the Soldano sound, then you'll like this. Keep in mind that though this amp was designed by Mike Soldano, this won't sound exactly like a real Soldano right off the bat (less focused, more open-sounding).

Both channels on the amp are very versatile. The crunch channel can go from clean to 80's while the overdrive channel is smoother, more defined, and can do everything the crunch channel can. Yes, it can also do teh br00tlz. I would buy this amp just for the overdrive channel, but the crunch channel can be useful as well. Stock, it does sound pretty fizzy though. You'll need to change tubes to get the best sound you can. I recommend going to the Eurotubes website and checking out their tube bundles for this amp.

One pleasant surprise for me is that my amp included a depth knob, which was not a feature listed on the website. This is a modification that many people with Soldanos and Jet Cities add onto their amp. It works flawlessly and adds more low end to the amp.

The only reason that this amp doesn't 5 stars is that it doesn't sound the most amazing stock. But compared to all of the newer Marshall's, Oranges, Bugeras, Peaveys, and Blackstars, this amp blows them away.

This amp sounds exactly like what it is: a [*] mass-produced version of a Soldano. It sounds good and has plenty of volume and overdrive on tap. My main complaint was that it put out a lot of noise when I turned the master volumes up, particularly the overdrive channel. It definitely was not just pickup noise because I unplugged my guitar and the noise was the same. This is in contrast a real Soldano. I have played through an SLO-100 and an Astroverb and they were both extremely quiet. In short, I would say this is not a bad choice if you need an inexpensive two channel amp that can put out a good amount of volume for live shows. The tone is pretty good, but not as good as a real Soldano (obviously). It might be a bit noisy for recording. Or maybe I just got a lemon. Anyway, I decided to return it.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA5012C 50W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a great amp. If you are in a rock band and are looking for an amp, this is a terrific score. It's loud, has great tone, decent headroom. I paid a pittance for mine (stock) as a used 'stupid deal.' I'm not sure I would pay full price for it, but if you pick one up used or on sale, it is well worth the money.

The tone of this thing is really good. If you use it to practice with, you are not going to really hear the good tone. I use mine as a practice amp because I'm not in a band, and I have noticed that it gets much better tone as you turn it up. If you aren't going to crank this thing at some shows, you might be better off with a Blackstar 5 or 20 watt that sounds a little better turned down. Anyway, to me, it sounded 80s metal bright and brash with a kind of AC/DC crunch channel right out of the box. I put some JJ tubes in it and a v30. That darkened it up quite a bit and made it a little more modern sounding. You don't have to make the adjustments though. It just depends on your tastes.

The bad things? Well, it is a HUGE cabinet. 42 lbs is not unforgiveable for a 1x12 combo, but the massive size of this thing is stupid. It is big enough to house 2 12" speakers and awkward. It doesn't seem to take all pickups equally. It seems especially bad with most single coils. Certain humbuckers sound better than others. I liked the ones on my PRS SE the best. Doesn't like actives. Les Paul sounds okay. You can only get the good tone by turning it up, so it is not a fun practice amp unless you have some serious separation from neighbors. I have been considering a mod to open it up a bit, but really, if I turn it up, it sounds great. You don't need to mod it. It doesn't really put out enough bass for drop tuning. Maybe it would work for drop Db, but my drop Bb axe sounded really weak in the lower registers. I get absolutely zero buzz out of this thing, but to be fair, I have never had the master volume higher than 4.

So really, the good far outweighs the bad. If you have a single family detached dwelling, you can probably turn it up enough to get good tone.
You won't want to transport it. If you can leave it at a rehearsal space or maybe leave it setup at a gig, you are going to like it a lot more than if you have to move it back and forth. Great tone. To me it's 80s rock/metal out of the box, and a speaker change/retube turns it into something very close to an actual Soldano. Great amp for a hard rock band, probably enough gain for a unique metal sound. Not great headroom for 50W but good enough to get over a drummer. Yes, I would recommend this amp, but not at full price. There are a lot of deals to be had on Jet City stuff.

Let me preface this review by saying that I bought this amp discounted and would never pay full price for this(or any other)amp unless I started playing as an occupation, which I don't. I bought this amp on a whim (I have 17 other amps of varying sizes and configurations)and am glad that I did. It has a thick compressed sound that really goes well with my double-humbucker equipped guitars. Sure there is some noise, but in the context of a whole band the noise isn't noticeable. It's also got a simplicity that I find reassuring in this age of countless digital effects and processors. Obviously only time will tell as far as the durability, but my initial impression (after about 4 months) is that it's a keeper for sure.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA5012C 50W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I was in the market for something affordable, powerful, and portable with great tone that could stand up to and take the place of my stacked rig/larger amps. (Egnater Tourmaster 4100 and Fender Super Six Reverb.) Over the years I have owned Marshalls, multiple Mesa/Boogies, Peaveys as well as some of budget amps like Crate and Bugera (which I wasn't terribly pleased with)and many others that I have probably forgotten.

My aim was to get something that was reminiscent of my Mesa Mark II C+ that I foolishly sold about five years ago but also not break the bank. I needed high wattage to push in smaller clubs where micing is not an option but I also wanted to be able to bring in amp and guitar in a single trip to the stage and take up less space in the tour trailer.

In a word this amp is fantastic. The people complaining that it is noisy, have obviously never owned a high gain tube amp before.... every high gain amp I have EVER played has a natural hiss on the OD channel. That is what noise suppressors in the effects loop are for. Not that it is really necessary.

The amps cleans have the perfect amount of grit to add some depth for the people in the cheap seats and a scorching OD channel. With my Gibson Les Paul Traditional, the walls of the club rattle. And in a thousand plus seat venue, the soundman told me to turn down. Winning. Hahaha A single coil guitar may sound brittle through it however.

I have had a SUNN, KMD, VOX, HARTKE, LINE 6, and now the Jet City. The Jet City I first received was horrible. The amount of noisy that come through this thing, made it unplayable. The Gain was tweaked so high it would scream with feedback when the volume on (4) even without a guitar connected. The sound quality was really just horrible. I sent it back, the replacement was much better, the sound was terrific, however the amp was still very noisy, (way to noisy) so with that said, no I would not spend hard earned money on the Jet City. A shame as without the excessive noise it's a mean & powerful tone. The Jet City sounds great cranked up.

Right out of the box this amp was noisy with a hiss to it. The amp probably needs a noise gate or some lower gain preamp tubes to calm her down. The quality is good on the amp but you may need to swap tubes and add a noise suppressor.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA5012C 50W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The clean channel is very usable for a basher like me and it starts to break up reasonably early. If you want Fender clean, you need to consider buying a Fender.

The drive channel is very good - close to Soldano for much less money. Booming lows and articulate highs with some fuzz on them. Some folks have not been overjoyed with the speaker, but I thought it was matched well in this combo. LOTS of volume when you crank it.

It is a fairly heavy combo, but the drive channel alone was enough for me to keep it, but for one major problem. It had a very loud hum (not hiss) that let me know it had to be defective. I'm no electrical expert, but it had an obnoxiously loud hum when not playing and much louder than you'd expect from any tube amp. I had to reluctantly return the amp.

Let me be clear - this amp kicks some serious SLO tail. If you get one without this defect you'll be very happy with it for hard rock, classic metal, even blues. It was very disappointing, but once bitten, twice shy. I didn't ask for a replacement.
