Comments about JHS Pedals Double Barrel 2 in 1 Dual Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
***NOTE: this is the V.3 of the Double Barrell (NOT the new V.4 introduced at NAMM summer '17 w/ the Moonshine on the right side instead of the 808)***
This is an amazing pedal- truly JHS at their best (which is pretty darn good). As I noted above, the right side of this pedal is the JHS 808, their version of the old-school tube screamer, which is probably the most versatile screamer you'll ever play thanks to the 3-way toggle switch that switches up clipping/compression/crunch/etc. for a huge variety of voicing and applications. Already a winner, but then you also have the left side, which is the flagship JHS overdrive, the "transparent" low gain "Morning Glory", which is one of the best sounding boutique overdrive pedals in the market today. Newer versions of the MG have a high-gain mode, but that isn't present here in the V.3 (you won't miss it, I promise)- instead, the toggle switch on the left is the treble-cut, which is very useful due to the fact that as you increase the gain, the treble frequencies also increase steadily. The third toggle switch here, in the center, actually lets you choose the order of the effects in your signal chain, which puts this box over the top in terms of what it is capable of- I almost always run it with the Morning Glory first in the chain (and, actually, virtually always on), as this allows for the boosting and further EQ-ing of the 808 which allows for whatever 808-esque voicing you could ever want from your rig. As far as low to medium gain options go, you would be incredibly hard-pressed to find a 2-in-1 box that is capable of more than the Double Barrel V.3... the new V.4 uses the Moonshine on the right side instead of the 808, as I mentioned before, and it is higher-gain with fewer clipping options- it will serve many very well, but if low gain is your thing, and you appreciate versatility, this is what you've been looking for right here.
