Keeley

A killer lead boost that blends fuzz and overdrive.

The Fuzz Head from Keeley is a unique lead boost that combines the best of fuzz and overdrive effects. Transparent, dynamic, and fully tweakable, with an NPN Germanium transistor at its heart but much more up its sleeve.

With external Fuzz and Head controls, you can easily call up a number of dynamic fuzz and overdrive effects. The unique Si/Ge switch allows you to control a secondary clipping stage by adding a pair of diodes (one Germanium, one silicon) into the circuit for smoother clipping, more saturation, and loads of sustain.

Pedal tweakers will love the internal gain control, which sets the overall range of the external Fuzz control, and the internal tone control or sharpening high-end or cutting it back. A small, flathead screwdriver is all that's needed to fine tune your tone. Three swappable capacitors are also included with the Fuzz Head, so that if you must change the low-end response of the pedal, you can.

Features
  • NPN Germanium transistor
  • Additional gain stage with a pair of high-gain Darlington silicon transistors for tons of volume
  • Buffered output
  • True-bypass
  • Large blue LED
  • Si mode inserts two silicon diodes in the distortion circuit for an increase in fuzz and compression for more sustain; Ge mode is natural and open-sounding
  • Transparent and dynamic

Here's your chance to get friendly with the fuzz! Put it in the cart.

Comments about Keeley Fuzz Head Guitar Effects Pedal:

I went on a 1+ year hunt for the fuzz I was hearing in my head. This is the one that finally ended my search. Every pedal I tried had one or more of the normal fuzz short comings: not working with other pedals, too muddy, lack of clarity, getting lost in the mix, etc. I've owned various boutique fuzz faces, tone benders, and bigmuff variants and this is by far and away is the most musical, useable fuzz I've used. While the fuzz head isn't as high gain as some, when played through an amp that's breaking up it is awesome. It really cuts through in a real band setting. Very dynamic, cleans up nicely, works good stacking with other pedals.... I could go on and on.... Bottom line this is one excellent fuzz. It will not be leaving my board. Five stars for Robert Keeley''s Fuzz Head,,,,

Comments about Keeley Fuzz Head Guitar Effects Pedal:

A lot of people claim that this is a cross between a fuzz and an overdrive. This is simply false. I run 3 different overdrives on my board and this pedal doesn't resemble a single one of them. This is a bona fide fuzz pedal..no question about it. It does allow you to dial back the effect significantly to create some heavier overdriven sounds but I would not go so far as to call this an overdrive pedal. Plus, I have a feeling Robert Keeley knows what he's doing and he does it VERY well. Additionally, this pedal is incredibly accurate when compared to such vintage sounds as Cream, Led Zeppeplin, Henrix, etc. It also covers modern fuzz as well. Don't be fooled by people claiming this to be an overdrive...it is absolutely not. It is just an incredibly versatile fuzz pedal and is everything that you could ask for in that regard. Stop comparing and buy this thing already (it's better than the Analogman Sunface...trust me, I've compared them).

    Love this thing!

    By Bill Isbell

Comments about Keeley Fuzz Head Guitar Effects Pedal:

Try one. You will love this pedal. No going back after you've added this one to your board. The Fuzz Head rocks! And Keeley Electronics offers great customer service. No downsides here.
wow. got a keeley fuzz head recently - traded in a super-overdrive to get it. this thing is remarkable. adds just the right amount of pure fuzz without all the noise and crappy noise & tone you sometimes get with even the best fuzz pedals. whether you want a Hendrixy vibe or a Black Keys vibe or a heavily fuzzed out saturated, but still pleasant sounding, lead tone, this pedal is your ticket. The thing I love about this is it just adds fuzz without all the annoying tone killing crap. Great to just edge out your rhythm playing, particularly for blues/blues-rock. Use it as a rhythm pedal and then hit your tubescreamer or other lead pedal ... omg. Or just use the Fuzz Head as your lead - either way ... you'll love this pedal. I've been through a lot of pedals & a lot of amps in search of pro tone and this pedal delivers in spades. Robert Keeley is a sound genius.

    A Real Head Case

    By Tone Obsessed

    from York, PA (nowhere)

Comments about Keeley Fuzz Head Guitar Effects Pedal:

This offering from Keeley is a good pedal that suffers from a personality disorder in that it really doesn't know who it is or what it wants to be: is it a fuzz, a boost, or an over-drive? In reality it's a bit of all of these things without being any one of them in particular. With your amp, guitar (and any other pedals around it) dialed in just right you can get some good tones out of this unit but it's schizo nature can be a little problematic and disappointing until you figure out what works and what doesn't. As far as pedals go, it's good but not great; and given the price tag it should be better and a lot more versatile than it is.

    Vintage grind and crunch galore

    By Axis39

    from Stafford, Va

Comments about Keeley Fuzz Head Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have searched and searched for the proper fuzz tone. I tried several different silicon style pedals ending with a Fulltone 70 pedal which was very nice. My only complaint was it was too regualr, too even in it's dirt. I knew the answer was Germanium. I didn't wan that super splatty sound of a zvex fuzz, but I wanted something looser... grindier? But not heavy metalish sounding. I wanted that late 60's early 70's grit.I found it in this pedal. The regular germanium setting is wonderfully dirty and gritty without loosing my guitar's flavor, tone or the notes themselves. Chords grind and sound tough. Single notes can have a gritty edge. With a minimal twist of the guitar's volume knob the notes and chords clean up beautifully. With the fuzz level turned back, it can work almost as a clean boost. There's a lot of volume available too! With the fuzz sitting around noon, it?s a great overdrive pedal. This pedal stays on probably 80% of the time I?m playing. It?s such a great sounding pedal! I cannot recommend this one enough.I use several Strats (CP50?s and a RW 60?s), a Gretsch and a Les Paul Traditional through a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

    Fuzz Head happy!

    By WorkingDogMan

    from Trenton, NJ

Comments about Keeley Fuzz Head Guitar Effects Pedal:

Wow! First and foremost, this pedal sounds amazing! I thought I was looking for a bone-crunching powerful fuzz that had a 90's grunge sound, which this isn't, its so much more! IT is an amazing fuzz that is VERY responsive to your picking attack. Play soft and its clean, play harder and it starts to break up more and more. Only complaints are: tone control is a fingernail knob located on the circuit board within the chassis of the component.. why? The amount of gain for the sweep of the fuzz knob is also controlled with a small rotary knob within the unit.. Truth is that I took apart the unit to adjust the tone and gain, and once I had it set I haven't wanted to change it since.. But besides this, you won't find a cleaner, more percussive fuzz out there. I can get buzz saw nasty, but its just so much more musical in the silicone mode with the gain turned down.. total jimi with the neck pickup on a strat! Amazing fuzz distortion! I have a huge china closet full of guitar pedals with two shelves dedicated to distortion and overdrive pedals.. this one hasn't left my pedalboard yet.. don't think it ever will.

TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE....

    By zachtheripper

    from Bloomington, IN

Comments about Keeley Fuzz Head Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is best fuzz out there, period. Here's why: because that little silver toggle switch below the fuzz dial gives you two different kinda fuzzes with a simple flick. The silicon based fuzz is the vintage sound, like a hendrix fuzz face, while the germanium based fuzz gives you that "i just drank a fifth of jack, drove home in my red corvette, totaled it, blacked out and suffocated on my own vomit" kind of modern rock'n'roll sound. Both are extremely clean, and when used with the keeley compressor it simply slaps you and people next door straight in the face. Buy this pedal if you have an idea of the fuzz sound you're looking for but don't know how to get it, just look around, it's in there....

    Perfect Fuzz

    By Strat4Me

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Keeley Fuzz Head Guitar Effects Pedal:

Rarely do I give out 10s, but some of Robert Keeleys products are the exception. This Fuzz is more like an OD/Fuzz than hardcore splat and spit. But it is also a very versatile Fuzz which cleans up well with the volume knob on guitar. It doesn't mind if it is not first in line and can run behind a buffer. For a Fuzz it plays well with others, and hitting it with another OD will make it sing endlessly. It will do Jazz to rock and all in between, giving you a sweet natural lead tone. Really! This Fuzz will not color your tone, is very transparent, and can be adjusted internally if you need it different then it is set at. I play a Strat and this Fuzz has the tone I need, like a very smooth FuzzFace, but better!

    Dynamics

    By Starfire4

    from Portland, ME

Comments about Keeley Fuzz Head Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is for the Keeley fuzz head. My set up is Guild Star fire IV with flat wound heavy-gauge strings into the fuzz head into Keeley compression into full tone Clyde Wah (which I don't recommend using with the fuzz- kind of screechy) into a peavey bandit with tube simulation. The fuzz head has the silicon diodes to germanium transistor switch. The silicon diodes sound more modern, punchier volume output, a little bit better sustain. The germanium gets that classic 60s distortion. This pedal has the fuzz and the overdrive yes. But the real magic is when you turn down your guitar to mid or low volume. When you pick lightly there will be a clear warm tone, but when you start to really bang on the strings the distortion kicks in. Great for a mature player who is aware of dynamics.I haven't had the fuzz head long, but I?ve had the Keeley compression for a while and they never cut out or give me any trouble. Quality craftsmanship. Reliability great for live playing and with the true-bypass you can use Keeley in the studio too.
