A guitar-tone genie in a pedal!

The Keeley Time Machine Boost is a two-channel guitar preamp and booster effect pedal. It delivers a range of powerful guitar tones and is extremely effective for driving your tube amp into overdrive or saturation. The two channels are vintage and modern. The Vintage channel is inspired by the highly coveted and sought-after vintage germanium boost pedals favored by guitarists worldwide. The Modern channel gives you 23dB of pure, clean, transparent gain fueled by dual JFET transistors. The use of a special voltage-doubling IC gives the Time Machine lots of headroom. As with all Keeley-built electronics, this preamp and boost pedal incorporates top-of-the-line audiophile-quality parts like silver solder, teflon-coated wiring, and metal film caps and resistors.

Features

  • Guitar preamp and boost pedal

Secrets of the Keeley Time Machine

So I live in OKC and Keeley Electronics home is in Edmond, OK.  I recently headed up there to get some pedals modded & buy a boost pedal - Keeley's Katana Boost ... Robert Keeley walked into the showroom & we're discussing the differences between his Katana Boost & Java Boost circuitry and their different purposes and sounds, and he explains that the Katana is actually the right, clean boost, side, and the Java Boost is the left, more gritty overdrive, side, of the Time Machine, which is combines the best of those two great Keeley pedals.  Either way, you'll love the improvement to your sound.  Robert is so nice and stands behind everything he makes & sells.  And Keeley Electronics delivers great customer support should you ever need it. Try one. You'll dig the tone.

This is a wonderful vintage sounding pedal.  It is a treble booster on one side.  If you don't know about what a treble boost is made for do some research first.  The guy who said that one channel is a Marshall 800 and the other is an SLO is so far off the mark I thought it would be only fair to mention it.  All this does is boost high-mid frequencies.  It is magic in front of a JTM45 type head.  The boost side is very nice, just a good clean boost.  Solid build quality, and the interior work is a work of art.  Expensive?  Yes.  VERY.  But it is one of the most usable treble boosts I've every tried.

I already own Keeley's Compressor, Fuzz Head, and modded Blues Driver and, although those pedals are quite good, the Time Machine takes the cake in all catagories.  Unlike most treble boosters, the Vintage side of this box is almost whisper quiet and sounds fantastic, never raspy or harsh, loaded with old school goodness.  The modern side is pretty clean as well, but gets a little rough with the warp on and the volume up.  This thing sounds best on a darker sounding amp that doesn't have a master volume and seems to favor single coils slightly over humbuckers (although they sound good too).  The build quality of this box is better than any other Keeley pedal and is as good as or better than the Fulltone stuff (which is probably the gold standard when it comes to enclosures and components).  You could easily argue that this box is overpriced, but what isn't?  It's the most I've ever paid for a single pedal but I certainly have no regrets.  If you have a good (or hopefully great) guitar and amp setup, this machine will make it sound that much better.  What it does is fairly subtle, but it does it extremely well.  A must have for the initiated tone freak.  Five all the way.

This pedal earned a permanet place in my effects chain. Sure it takes up a little more real estate than other one trick pony pedals do but they won't do what this one does. It colors your tone just enough to make your amp sound like the originals. On Vintage you will sound like a Plexi or JCM 800 or on Modern think Soldano SLO. All I can add is it has true bypass and doesn't mess with your tone. Awesome pedal Robert Keeley!!!!
