Kemper

Any amp. Any time. Anywhere.

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier enables you to do what generations of guitar players have been waiting for: to capture the soul of all your amps (and so many more) inside a lunchbox-sized amplifier.

With cutting edge technology Kemper captures the sonic DNA of virtually any guitar amp for vivid and dynamic sound.

They were created by professional guitarists, engineers and producers in studios all over the world. Right out of the box, you will find classic tones of studio standards as well as profiles of highly sought-after amplifiers, some costing many times the price of the Profiling Amplifier. If you are looking for a particular sound, search the Rig Exchange database on our website, and download profiles and rigs from fellow users. You can also make your own profiles from your gear.

Kemper will be working tirelessly to create new profiles for you to download for free from their website as well. They employ the same techniques an engineer would use to create a great guitar tone in the studio, so you can be sure to receive authentic sounds from this digital guitar amp.

If you are tracking in a studio, you can profile the guitar amps that you record with. Later, you simply take these profiles with you and know that you can recreate the exact sound of the recording, both in rehearsal and live on stage.

      Comments about Kemper Profiling Amplifier:

      Expensive, Yes. Worth it, Yes!!!
I am a novice garage player. I have a Mustang III and an Orange TH30. I recently tried a Mesa Boogie, but found it way too hard to get the tones I wanted. All I can say is, it looks like the search is over!! I would bet that everyone has a couple of amps and is still looking for the "perfect" amp. Well this is it, because it is "all" the amps in one box. I downloaded some additional brand name amp rigs from another third party website which sells additional profiles. Thus, you get the standard profiles already loaded in the Kemper plus tons of additional profiles "amps" on other websites (free and for purchase). EVERYTHING about the Kemper spells German quality and engineering. The packaging, the manuals, the website and yes the unit itself. This thing is built like a tank. It is easy to use and the manual is very simple and well written. Here is my setup. I have a BOSS-JS8 connected to a QSC12 PA speaker. The BOSS is used to play my songs through via a USB stick with mp3's loaded on it. Now I added the Kemper to the team by using a regular guitar cable to plug the Kemper into the back of the QSC12 also. So now the mp3's and the Kemper=Guitar are running through the QSC12 PA speaker. The music is combined and it sounds just like you are playing "in" the song! As for the quality of the tones out of the Kemper. There is no comparison or compromise. This things sounds perfect. The variety is amazing. I have been learning some Ventures Surf music and bingo the Kemper has a rig called SURF in it. It sounds just like the soundtracks. You really have to wonder if this will hurt the Amp industry. Why would you buy another amp, when you can get the amp and all the other amps you have been wanting to try and store them in one box???? If you want quality, great tones, a variety of "real" amps (all of them), and ease of use, then this is your ticket. I play the Outfield british sound in one song, switch to Surf Sound in another and then move to another amp sound with ease. I ran through the amps on the unit, loaded my own downloads and then saved the ones I like in the Favorites directory. Now I have about 10 amps that I like in one easy to find spot in the Kemper. That easy. This is the best purchase I have made in a long time. Stop buying amps and then sending them back because they don't sound like they did in the showroom. Do yourself a favor and try the Kemper. PS the sales reps at Musician's Friend are excellent to work with. The unit was Brand New sealed and packaged extremely well. A++

This is the real deal! It is insane that we ae living in a technological era where this is possible.I have bought and sold everything since the cheap POD to more expensive units, puts everything to shame! Is it expensive? yes, but so is an Orange amp, MESA, ENGL,Bogner and so on, and you really do get the same sound and dynamics of these tube amps.My quest for the great tone machine has ended!

      Comments about Kemper Profiling Amplifier:

I've used a lot of gear over the years. I currently own 5 tube amps and have used countless amps and modelers. I put this far above any modeler there is and on par with the tube amps it emulates with one very important point. If you want an absolute accurate sound you're going to need external speaker cabinets and then mic them. I'd recommend three major cabs. A rock cab with v30's or greenbacks. A clean alnico equipped cab and a bluesy cab. Then mic those. That'll give you the most accurate amp sound and feel. How do I know... I've tried it. But I still don't do that too often. I generally plug straight into my daw and record. It's still amazing. I A/B'd one of my amps and it was completely accurate. Through an amp or speaker it sounded rich and organic. Directly into the daw it didn't sound as rich. It lost something. I don't feel that's the Kemper's fault. Try plugging your amps directly into your daw's and see if they sound as "good" as they do standing in front of them.
Someone I respect said the Kemper is 95% there. I disagree. I think it's 100% there. Will I sell off my tube amps? Yes and no. I'm already getting richer and more vibrant tone from my Kemper than any of my amps but it still has to be mic'd to match them. I can see selling off most of my amps and sticking with the Kemper. Like the other fellow said, I don't know what to do if the Kemper breaks. It's German engineered so hopefully will live up to their excellent reputation.

      Comments about Kemper Profiling Amplifier:

I wanted to love the KPA. I bought in to the hype and picked one up. As a long time Fractal user, I'm not afraid to tweak. So, I tweaked. I played. I tweaked some more. For the most part I will say that the KPA sounded like a very good analog emulation but it suffered in the low midrange - especially on clean tones when pushed hard. The 650hz +\- range just got too fuzzy. It never sounded "bad" but, to me, an essential frequency range just kind of disappeared.

The tonal compromise really was not a big deal. It still sounded killer. The absolute deal killer for me was the lack of a dedicated controller. I play live. I need to change mid-song or more. For such an expensive, well thought out rig from people obviously smarter than me, the lack of a dedicated switcher with some compatible internal routing functionality really begs the question, "Really?" OTOH, the Axe FX controller is light years ahead by recently offering the ability to switch seamlessly between "scenes" in the same preset. Yes. Really.

I know lots of folks love the Kemper and I wish them luck. I'm keeping my Axe and MFC for now.

      Comments about Kemper Profiling Amplifier:

This amp is as close as I have heard to tube amp emulation for a solid state device. It still lacks a vibrancy that comes with speaker action, but still a convincing sounding rig. There are tons of user amp profiles available although many don't sound that great, but the ones done right are well worth it. I am not a metal head so I cannot speak of the high gain profiles, but I have found some great plexi and blackface profiles. Some of the boutique profiles don't sound much different that any other to be honest. I am surprised at just how much most tube amps sound alike as interpreted by the Kemper, still nice and warm and full of 2nd order harmonics. You can also profile your own amps, but I have not tried it yet. There are also cabinet profiles too that can be swapped around for the best sounding rigs. I don't use the on board effects, but there seem to be some useful ones if you have none outboard. Listening through the headphone jack sounds horrible, almost made me want to send it back, but when run through my board with good Lexicon reverb, it sounds great. I also use a Black Finger tube compressor in front and a 2ube LPB post for additional tube warmth. I am not sure who to send it to if it breaks down after warranty, as It is made in Germany I believe. A pretty expensive amp to be rendered useless if it cannot be fixed. A tube amp can be serviced anywhere as they are simple circuits. I also cannot speak to how it would do live, although I don't see why it wouldn't sound good through a good PA. I read they are making a rack mounted version, that would be a big plus. Bottom line: a great goto amp for just about any tone one needs for any project.
