The amp overall has many great features a guitarist can enjoy. The Reverb on the unit is great and the analog chorus effect built into the amp sounds great. The overall sound of the amplifier is great. On the clean channel the highs are clean and do not distort, even when volume is cranked to high volume levels and the distortion is a great fuzz-sounding distortion which can be customized to your taste very easily with the 3-band EQ, not to mention the switch on unit that allows you to switch between a British or USA amp tone. The UK sound on amp is great and really rocks. When set to USA the distortion sounds range from blues rock to alternative/punk to full-out metal. The size of the amp is small, but it sure packs a punch and the looks are great with a blue jewel light to let you know the unit is on, and the cool chrome control knobs and cool grill cloth. The amplifier meets up to the Kustom name and reputation, powered by a Celestion speaker just adds icing to the cake!

To be objective, I'll admit I bought this used, for a ridiculously low price; the pawn shop wanted it gone. The clean tone is surprisingly polished; far better than I would suspect from a solid state. Do your listeners a favor though, and leave the reverb, chorus, and distortion off. the reverb may be defective on mine, however, it matches the description that Kustom gives of it; it does little more than leave a clangy tail at the end of the note. The chorus is a $5 analog circuit, and the distortion sounds like a pedal from a department store. I also think celestion speakers are way over-rated; I tried a Jensen with it and opened up the sound by 40%. For the price range, get a used Line 6 Spyder or a Fender 25R instead.

frustrating

After having this amp for about 2 years I've grown really sick of it. Although the clean sound when turned up is really really nice, the distortion is muddy bassy crap. I've tried and tried to tweak it but just can't get it to sound right. Even adding pedals to it, just sounds downright crappy. It's really frustrating. If you're someone who uses no distortion (e.g. a country player or jazz) I would highly recommend it for the clean channel but if you play any rock or metal do NOT buy this amp.

Love everything except the distortion

By elusivepuzzle

great clean channel, very loud and clear, but the distortion is way too fuzzy, as several people here have mentioned. I have solved this problem by playing on the clean channel and running a modeling guitar processor through it. I am very happy with the sound now, but I shouldn't have had to do that.

best practice/small gigging amp ever!

i got this amp for Christmas 3 years ago and have used it regularly since then. Overall this amp has a very distinct sound too it. It is very versatile, it can produce many different sounds. I usually leave it on the clean channel and run almost a chain of stomp boxes and pedals through it to get the sound that i need. But if you're looking for a clean distortion, this amp is ok for that, not my favorite but it works. If u loop this amp through a bigger amp, you'll be suprised at the clarity and tone that you can get from it. My favorite effect is the chorus/reverb.Overall a really good starter amp, i'm 16 and i haven't bought anything else, it's great!

Every time I play a power chord with some low on the EQ, it always gives me a fuzzy feedback. If you play any kind of Metal, choose a different amp than this. I'm not very impressed with the distortion, but the clean tone is great.

This amp is loud for 30 watts. It is so versatile. The most unique feature of this amp is the UK/USA switch, which selects the preamp. The UK is thinner and grittier, while the USA is fatter and smoother. The reverb is spring, and the chorus is analog. I still would have gotten it if it was twice the price. This amp makes a great practice amp and is capable of playing small/medium gigs.

what can i say? this guitar amp impressed me. i own the little bass amp that is also made by this company and that was crap. at my school we have an adavanced rock class and these are the stock guitar amps they have. at first i thought this would be crap but then i plugged in with a friend and i was impressed. this amp can handle and it is loud. despite being so small, we have used it to play shows at our school. and even though it's minimal, the EQ and the settings can be set to right about any range. we have used it for blues, classic rock, psychedelic, and even metal. really good deal.

Best amp ever!

By Metal_Melitia

from San Antonio, TX

I have had this amp for about a year now and it is by far one of the best amps I have ever played. It has very good sound quality and never F's up. it has some VOLUME to it alright. Great for really jamming out in a garage or live show. the affects are great. they sound like a quality effect should. It has two channels- lead and rythem. Both very eccelent. The gain and stuff really does a lot for the tone. It really gives it that crunchy semi-distorted, if thats what your looking for. Goes great with pedals. The only other amp that I have played that was as good or better was a marshall amp. So if you can spare the money to buy it, do it. You will not be unsatisfied. ONE GREAT AMP!

Great Amp!

By PutDownTheDrugsAndGrabAnAxe

from St. Charles, IL.

I'm 12 and have had this amp for about 2 months. It drives my parents nuts along with my guitar I also got at Christmas (An Ibanez as73). I rarely turn it up past half way. The Clean channel is crystal clear while the overdrive packs a punch to shake my house down; rattling my windows and vibrating the floors. If you get the settings right you can mock your favorite artists or create your own sound. All this for a price you can't beat (effects loop included).

Great

By Mick-1A8Uj

This is an awesome amp, the clean sounds great, the distortion is great (a little fuzzy though). I wouldnt buy this if you plan on playing metal that requires tons of distortion. I love the Celestion speaker and the US or UK switch to change sounds. The reverb and chorus are alright, nothing too special and the price was amazing. It is very loud also, it can very easily play over drums. bottom line... BUY THIS AMP

Great Rehearsal Amp!

Ask me a question

Why use your tube amps for rehearsal when you can use this amp. Truly a this amp has great tone. The clean channel can be bright, the chorus is melodic, the lead channel sounds close to a tube overdriven amp.

I've been playing for 25 years and I'll tell you what, this amp sounds great. If you're into metal/shred/or whatever the kids are calling it these days, it might not be for you. But if you want an amp with a nice crunchy distortion and a clean and honest sound/tone.. this is it. I play jazz fusion and love this thing. The chorus and reverb are just right. They add to your sound without taking it over. The price is unbelievable. If this amp cost twice as much, it'd still be a good deal.

Good little amp...

By Mike-TJUPf

First, understand that this is a 30watt combo amp with a 10 inch speaker. It is not a Full or Half stack. My impression of this amp was wow this sounds pretty good. The clean side is decent and sounds better on a stop bar bridge as apposed to a floating trem like my Jackson's double locker. I like the distortion just fine and when I have used this amp I use the "USA" pre-amp. Gain maxed out, bass at 2 O-clock, Mid at 11 O-clock, Treb at 3 O-clock with the Rev and Chorus at 9 O-clock and on and use my '94 Jackson Dinky Pro Rev (stock pickups) Sounds good for a practice amp.

Biggest bang for your money

I bought this little amp a year ago and I love it, here's why. Quality. Every way you look at it Kustom has paid attention to every detail, you can just tell by looking at it, and it shows through in the tone! We usually play this guy into the PA system at my church, so for that it's great for small gigs. The only problem I've really had with it is it seems I have to play around with the High and Low settings a lot to get the right tone I'm looking for.

A solid, versatile amp

By Manstis1604

from Cleveland, OH

This amplifier works well for almost any kind of music, other than extremely heavy metal and the such. Has an awesome clean sound that sounds really good when cranked, it overdrives very well. The chorus and reverb are more subtle than most, not as drastic as digital effects. Just activating the effects give a little bit of punch and natural compression, even if both are turned all the way down. The gain channel is very rich and harmonic, there's not tons of distortion but there's enough for rock music, just not for most metal. If you're a fan of Pearl Jam, this amp is EXCELLENT for recreating their live sound. Sounds better with single coil pickups rather than humbuckers.

Bang for the Buck

By Mike-Nv0Bx

I gigged with this amp before buying it. I played it alongside my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Ampeg Reverberocket and this little guy just flat sounded better. It sounded way better clean, which suprised me. The clean is rich and thick with a sparkle that the Fender and Ampeg couldn't produce. The celestion speaker sounds great. The overdrive channel gives you some solid crunch. You can't get the cutting tone for solos with this rig, but what do you expect for the price? The reverb is staisfactory (not on par with the Fender or Ampeg), but the chorus is better than most onboard effects.I am still a tube guy, but this is a fantastic addition to any amp arsenal. It can power most small to medium club gigs. It drives an external speaker. It has an emulated line out to the board. It's footswitchable. And it weighs 29 pounds. Best buy I have made since I scored by Gibbie 335. I'm a fan.
