Whether you're on a low budget or not, the Line6 GuitarPort is a huge bargain. Most of the classic and modern "Heavy Hitter" amps are in here and very true the hardware originals. Same thing with the Stomp Boxes; you will swear you are playing through classic stomp boxes and not something so virtual.GuitarPort 2.0 actually "breathes" as you articulate, so your pick attack and technique is never lost. What impresses me the most about GuitarPort though is you really get the feeling that the sound is coming from the paper cones of a genuine guitar amp. You know, that inimitable sound of a vibrating paper speaker cone? It's there. Not to mention, in a small home studio (like mine) there's no miking the cabinet or warming up the tubes or worrying about your roommate coming home and slamming the front door right in the middle of tracking your best run-through of the day. Here's the clencher for me. I plugged in my new fretless bass yesterday and used the GuitarPort's version of the Bassman 4x10 Tube combo and got awesome tone. The Tube Instrument Preamp put out very solid and round tones for me as well.Versatility, convenience and Massive Tone all in one little interface for a killer software package is exactly the injection my guitar rig needed in my studio. What a great buy!

I use GuitarPort as a practice amp, since my computer is always set up, but it can be a hastle to get my regular amp out. I was pleased with the sounds produced by GuitarPort. I was disappointed by the content of the online portion of GuitarPort. It had a jazz section and blues section, but these selections seemed limited to riffs and scales...not a lot of play along songs. Finally, regarding the online section, you should be aware that it seems geared to people with high-speed internet connections. People with dial-up lines (like me) will find downloads extremely slow and frustrating.I was also disappointed by the plug-and-play aspects of driver installation. It seems that about once every week or two, I need to re-install the GuitarPort drivers because my computer says that it has found new hardware. Downloading the new version 2.51 helped a little, but I still have to re-install the drivers every once in a while.

The possiblities are endless. great product. After buying this product I spent $$$ dollars on a set of 300 watt 5.1 surround speakers for my computer and get better sound than full stack speakers @ fraction of the cost.

    Awesome

The GuitarPort kicks butt. It's the best practice tool I've ever seen or used. The online option is indispensible and the sound is as good as Line6's amps. I haven't recorded with it yet, but I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Every guitarist with a computer should have one and if you don't own a computer you should buy one and get a GuitarPort.

I don't know what 10 stars could mean...

I have been using the Guitarport for quite some time. Exactly how long is hard to tell, and I am not inclined to reasearch the timeline... The modeling and ease of use are just phenomenal. The specific tones that I get out of it for my use are just right. The drivers are stable, the setup is easy, the sound is great, the versatility cannot be beat as far as I know. The only limitation is the shallow field of material on the line 6 website. The online tutorials and tones are fantastic, but limited to popular material. It is still worth keeping your subscription up to date for online goodies. If you check out various newsgroups where players complain about getting guitar sound into their computers you will get an idea of how important the GuitarPort is. These guys just need the GuitarPort! So do you.

    Excellent practice tool

You can save a significant amount of money and space normally used for amplifiers and still get all the sounds of the heavy equipment.

    Forgot to mention in above...

    By Dan Parsons

I forgot to mention why I gave it only a 9 for features - and that is because it doesn't include Mac support. They say they'll add it eventually though, and seem pretty committed to it.(Moderators - feel free to combine this into my previous submission)

    Guitar Port

    By Ederdn

    from Arkansas

This is a very interesting piece of equipment to use for personal instruction, when coupled with the GuitarPort Online feature. The selection of lessons, tracks and tones is very useful, especially if one's tastes range broadly, rather than deeply. However, I've found it totally useless as a recording tool. I can't seem to get good info online to work out compatibility with my Firepod/Cubase combo. I can't work out bugs enough to eliminate transient noises, even to take an analog signal out. Line6 support has been completely unresponsive.

    Yes, 3 for overall

The reason is, no where else could I mention the fact with Customer Service. This peice of genius is the greatest thing to anyone who can record on their computer. The tone is better than some amps you can purchase. It will baffle you. But something more that will baffle you, is the fact that Line 6 doesn't care about the customer. Once sold, they don't care. You may get lucky, so good luck if something goes wrong with it. Purchase through a large company, atleast you cover yourself with their warrenty at the store.
