The M5 is a pleasant and needed surprise. I have seen the larger M9 on several of my friends pedal boards and heard that it was a great pedal. The M5 is similar, but it's smaller footprint is what I really liked. It has all the typical Line 6 effects and an easy to understand interface. I am not usually a huge fan of Line 6 products or digital effects, but I found that this plays nicely along my other analog pedals. I still don't like most of the Overdrive section of this pedal, but the other 4 effect types more than make up for this. I still haven't hooked up an expression pedal, but I am pretty excited to do this and access the wah and pitch shifting effects. The dedicated knobs for tweaking are also excellent. Alot of the effects are over the top and very heavy, but can be tweaked quickly to more applicable settings. If you find yourself wanting more variety or creative options, the M5 may be the affordable solution you are looking for.

My M5 worked great for a few months, then started going dead ON THE GIG. No sound coming through whatsoever. VERY FRUSTRATING while the rest of the band waits for the guitarist (me) to figure out what's wrong so they can play the next song. Dead in the water! This happened enough times that I was forced to stop using the pedal in live performance. A quick search online reveals this to be a COMMON PROBLEM, and one that Line 6 is aware of but does not address. Check out their user forum to see for yourself. Their customer support is virtually non-existant as far as I can determine. Despite the menu of good usable sounds, I would have to recommend AGAINST buying this pedal.

Flexible range of effects in a nice. solid and small box Sounds pretty good too. Mine began to fail intermittently on gigs. The only way to get it back was to unplug it (not easy when velcroed on a pedal board and not good in the middle of a set), wait a few seconds and then plug it back in. Eventually it failed completely. It will only flash the display. When I checked on forums, it appears this is a common result. Now I need to send it away for service at an unknown cost. Very disappointed.

I found 6-8 usable (quality) patches out of 100. To me that's 6-8 great sounding stomps at a reasonable price, so I can't complain. IMHO, the 'verbs are great and the distortions are weak. Overall the pedal is noisey (run it through an external effects loop in order to remove it from the signal chain when not in use). If you buy this pedal, keep your expectations realistic and you won't be disappointed. I will be keeping mine.
This pedal has plenty to offer as far as features are concerned...almost too many. It took me days of dedicated study to really master this pedal.
The chassis is well built. The knobs and switches also feel solid. I can't comment on the reliability of the 'innards', but I've read mixed reviews on the reliability of the electronics on the Line 6 trouble shooting chat room.
The value is debatable. It depends how well this unit performs over time. Some are still going strong, some have died in 90 days (but were still under warranty).

If only there is a return policy at the music instrument store here, I would have returned this, and my older POD XT. I'm not going to buy the Line6 product anymore.
Tons of effects, good for all in one solution, maybe for recording instead of live situation.
The sounds are OK for a very small setup where the brittle-ness and the degradation of the guitar and preamp tones are not noticeable. But in a bigger live setup (I'm not even talking about stadium, just small club), the quality is really revealed. This thing sucks my Guitar and preamp tone and hurting my ears with its brittleness. Enough of Line6. This is just toy for kid. For effect I'll just go for analog or higher end Digital. Even my Yamaha Magicstomp and UD-Stomp are better than this.
It's good for practicing only for me. I have checked with my guitarist friend who had M9 to know if it is something better, he said he sold his because of the same thing. This is not for a live setup for a music where the guitar sound should standout. Maybe it's good for top 40 bands whose guitar sound is buried with other sound.
Comments about Line 6 M5 Stompbox Modeler Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:
I was really impressed with the sound quality of this little pedal! So much, that I'm ditching my POD XT Pro. It's sad to have spent so much on something that is so obsolete, but worth every penny for the M5. It contains all the tones I love in the XT, with a simple to use platform that lets you adjust every detail of the effect. Instead of turning my back to the crowd to tweak my tone, I'm face down on the ground, where I should be! The color changing display is easy to see and navigate between different groupings of effects. The only drawback I can see is that it's down on the floor. I might build a stand or something to put it in reach and be able to "play" it as it's own instrument. Buy it today and replace a sea of effects that you don't needTons of tones and the ability to color every one to your liking. Unbelievabley easy to navigate with Midi control and stereo outputs. Wow!
Plastic feeling knobs, but all around solid steel construction and switches.
Again, probably obsolete in a few years, but a great value for all the studio quality effects you get to tweak to your own desire.
Comments about Line 6 M5 Stompbox Modeler Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:
Great sound. To me, better than my Pod XT. Easy to use, and you don't need the the manual to know what the knobs do.The best news is that you don't ever have to visit Line 6's terrible website to use this piece of equipment, so you never really have to worry about Line 6 support, which is non-existent.
Comments about Line 6 M5 Stompbox Modeler Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:
This pedal a genius idea! I can cram over 100 killer effects in the space of about 2.5 standard Boss pedals. I keep a chorus, phaser, and delay pedal on my effects loop pedalboard (I also have a preamp pedalboard). So this pedal is the perfect addition to cover all the other tones I use more sparsely. I'm not a fan of the distortions or the univibe effect (hence the 4.5 on features), but everything is really outstanding. The ability to set up small "scenes" is also very cool. You can scroll through about 40 presets that are tweaked to your specs. It would be good if it had a USB port, but other than that, it's perfect. Just go buy one.PS - it can be either true bypass or buffered bypass, depending on your needs. And I checked this hard way - I yanked out the power plug, and my guitar's tone was still there. Very cool!

Love the pedal! Played with it, and was so blown away, I went out and got the M9. I'm not a huge fan of "Amp modeling" so this pedal is perfect for me.
Comments about Line 6 M5 Stompbox Modeler Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:
I've been a fan/owner of Line 6 over the years, however, I decided to go analog this time around for my live setup. After realizing how many pedals I would need to cover the wide range of music I play I decided to add in the New M5 to fill the gaps when I would need that "certain" sound. I mainly use it for it's modulation effects which sound pretty good. I have it wired into my GCX unit and I can control all the features of it from my Ground Control Pro via midi (great feature). It's great having the 24 presets available for recall too. No more adjusting between songs! I've ordered the Mission Pedal which I'll use to access the wah and whammy effects. Over all it's a great little pedal for the money. It's easy to setup and tweak which is a big plus in my book. I have replaced most of the presets with my own due to many of them sounding a little harsh or over the top. Great investment overall!
