Seasoned musicians will recall the Tom Scholz' Rockman device from the 80s, which boasted the classic Boston guitar sound - but only had, like, 3 sounds, and direct connection to a mixing console resulted in a harsh sound. The PocketPOD takes the Rockman concept, increases capabilities exponentially, and with modeling algorithms that remove the harshness in use with mixing console or powered speaker. This device fills a niche for having Line6 "tones" in an extremely compact and lightweight package.
Line6 users will find this device to be consistent with other Line6 effects devices and amps in terms of amp modeling, decent array of features, intuitive controls, etc. The dual-function knobs make the most desirable controls available with just three knobs. I found it extremely handly to throw in my cable case, plug into a keyboard amp and be generally up to speed within minutes at a band rehearsal. I can see huge advantages for the traveling musician, where lightweight and compactness can matter.
Additionally, I was please that I could tweak and save settings on the spot, to, for instance make various sounds the same general loudness.
However, I downloaded the companion software and, even though I work with PCs for a living, was a little intimidated by the graphical display of the software and wordy manual.
Quality of assembly and workmanship is consistent with other mainstream musical instrument electronics. There appears to be a few milliseconds of processing delay.
At the street price, I had originally assigned of a value of "7", but Line6 makes the consumer buy an AC power supply - an item that probably would cost Line6 very little if purchased in bulk. Kind of short-sighted...lowering my rating to a "6".

Im a massive fan of Line 6 pods but this product is very seriously flawed. The biggest problem for me personally is the high battery consumption. I noticed the LCD light is temporary with batteries but it still seems to drain them within around 1 hour. Also there is no power supply included. A bloody cheek if you ask me.Also, most inserts/outputs are situated at the rear of the pod. The headphone/line output would be best left here, but the jack input and cd/mp3 in really should be at the front. Infact it would have worked great if line 6 simply turned the lcd upside down. The unit is incredibly light but I would have preferred a metal casing, plus I think the casing should have been slightly bigger to accomodate one or two more controls like delay....And this brings me to my biggest problem with the pocket pod; the delay settings and cab settings cannot be saved, although delay/flange and delay/comp work and save fine. Line 6 identified this bug some time ago but seem to have done nothing to remedy it.Fine tuning of the pocket pod can be accessed via downloadable 3rd party software. Again, not produced by line 6 or supplied with the unit. Surely they could include a free cd?On the plus side though everything else is supperb. As good as the pod is you will need a decent size amp/pa for it to sound good, just as playing through decent cans will sound infinitely better than little walkman headphones. I experienced no problem with finding very, very good tones from mine. The selection of amps, effects and cabs are top notch, just like the Pod 2.0. Despite the flaws i will not be taking mine back to the retailer, simply because there is nothing better on the market at this price range.

Comments about Line 6 Pocket POD Guitar Multi Effects Processor:
Was looking for a very compact, quality sounding multi-effect processor that I could use with headphones so I could practice anywhere, without interfering with other family members. This little unit was perfect. It uses 4AAA bat's (of course you can use an external power supply (not included)), has a beltclip that holds to a guitar strap, and sounds very nice. The presets offer many variations of every flavor of music tone that I care to play, blues, classic rock, metal, twang, its got it. Just the right amount flange, delay, reverb, gain ,etc... but you can tweak the individual effect levels if you like, to make it more to your liking. In that regard, the presets can be used sort of like starting points, and saved user defined.
The preset names are very representative of what the sound is, so easy to remember the ones you like. Plus you can set user defined presets, etc...
Very powerful little unit. I can't imagine anyone not thinking it a real asset after using it. And for the price, a real value as well.
An added feature is the multitrack recording software, which I have not used yet, so cannot comment further.

Comments about Line 6 Pocket POD Guitar Multi Effects Processor:
This is a great product because it allows one to hook up anywhere without electricity. For long hours of practice - it's perfect. I play in bed. Or you can lay outdoors with no electrical outlet. Play in the car - anywhere. The sound effects are great and there is no distortion. Once again - the best part is it runs on four AAA batteries.

Comments about Line 6 Pocket POD Guitar Multi Effects Processor:
Money well spent. I also own the M13. Right now I don'd even crank up my JCM anymore. I use my pod which means I can play whenever I want withou disturbing the entier house. I have a bad tendency to dime everything, and this thing is plenty loud through decent headphones. I love this thing. The only reason i don't give it a 10 is because it's made out of plastic. Tone wise and ease of use is a 10.
All I can say is wow. I used to own a sound studio back in the 80's which was like the rockman except the sound studio sounded way better. The features are excellent especially when you log on to line 6 and you can actually tweak your settings. It actaully has more features than what the pod has on the face of it, including precense and a whole bunch of other stuff thats very useable. It is very responsive. Those that say it's sterile shuld have their head examined. What sound are you looking for???? Look no further you can get it. Country to death metal.....80's hair band...it's all there . The only draw back is the battery life. Wish is was 9v instead of 4 triple A's.
The quality is great. The only issue is that it's plastic which I am not a fan of.
Can't go wrong with this unit.
Comments about Line 6 Pocket POD Guitar Multi Effects Processor:
Use it all the time.
Everything I need to play on the road. LOVE IT
Works great but looks to be a bit fragile. I travel with it in a hard padded case.
Great buy for the $
Comments about Line 6 Pocket POD Guitar Multi Effects Processor:
Buy it if you're a musician who travels a lot. It can always be there for you when that moment of inspiration strikes.
You can't go wrong with presets, not one sounds like another, which is a rare find for a lot of digital presets on amps. However the only 2 presets that suck are the "Fuzz" and "Fuzz Echo." Gave me an earache after listening to it.
It holds up good and the additional effects (the knobs) can really get the job done depending on how you have them dialed in. Only problem is; it's battery powered and drains them faster than you can say "Gibson." (there is a 9V power adapter outlet for it on the back, so I suggest you have one ready if you buy this)
Another problem is that it only produced feed back (with every preset) when I plugged it into my amp. But it sounds great with headphones. (It was mainly intended for travelling guitarists so I won't bash it to terribly.)
For a small battery powered effects system, it is a bit pricey. But it can do everything that the real POD is capable of. Again, just make sure you have some AAA batteries ready if you plan on taking this on a trip or anything.
Comments about Line 6 Pocket POD Guitar Multi Effects Processor:
I bought my Pocket Pod several years ago at Guitar Center. I needed a head phone amp
and I was more than satisfied. I tuned in Jeff Beck and Fender spring reverb and any sound
style you can imajine. High Volume and Tone, makes you a pro in no time. You can't gowrong with these effects and amp models and reverb, chorus etc, it's all there.
fantasic number one
Fantastic the best
The best at any price
Comments about Line 6 Pocket POD Guitar Multi Effects Processor:
I have a traveler guitar (ULTRA LIGHT-Electric) and a Marshall M2 2 watt amp, this little beast is what I needed to complete my arsenal. The only bad thing about it is that it didn't have a built-in metronome for practice but this is amazing when playing live and on the streets. I take this with me at work and school with my setup and jam using headphones. It makes the 2watt amp sound BETTER as it adjust the sound quality and volume (kind of like a preamp). Works great as a tuner too.
Did not break had for over a year.
Comments about Line 6 Pocket POD Guitar Multi Effects Processor:
Love it! Get it! Enjoy it!
So full of features and options I can't even begin to list them all. You just have to get the thing and play with it. What fun!
No problems with it at all. Easy to use.
Pretty fair price. Lots of features for the money.
