Effects
POD ® 2.0 comes with a built in set of effects that are tweaked to perfection. This "best of" collection of effects makes searching for the perfect sounds ultra easy. Multiple versions of the effects give you rack or stompbox versions, and the combination effects give you classic setups like Delay and Chorus simultaneously.

There's even a full time Reverb, Tap Tempo for getting your delay's in time with the band, and an Effect Tweak knob for custom tailoring your effects. Plus, you'll never be out of tune because you'll get a Chromatic Tuner with a silent mute function for tuning between songs.

Ins and outs
POD ® is equipped to handle today's guitar recording needs with +4dBu balanced or -10dBV unbalanced 1/4" connectors. MIDI lets you automate every move and Line 6's optional FBV„¢: generation foot controllers let you do it all with your feet. POD 2.0 also comes with a high-power headphone output for silent jamming.

Left & Right Output - These are balanced 1/4" TRS connectors, and ready to rock with pro +4 dBu balanced equipment. They will also work happily with unbalanced -10 dBV equipment and standard guitar cables.

A.I.R.„¢: Mode ” If you want to plug POD into a guitar amp as front end, flip the A.I.R. Mode switch to AMP, and set your amp for a clean tone. This defeats the speaker-microphone-room tone simulation of the A.I.R. processing. If you're using POD in almost any other setup (plugging direct into a mixer, recorder, PA, power amplifier, etc.) you want the DIRECT position on the A.I.R. switch.

this can be the best bucks you'll ever spend, had to pick between a KFK EMG pickup set or this and I'm glad I went with this, I recommend this to beginners and pros alike and these are some reasons why.you DONT need an amp you can use computer speakers so for practing at night this can come in handy, a special built in tuner to experiment with tunings, create and save your guitar tones than get them in the click of a button to save you time.record using your USB drive, turn the cheapest guitars or amps into something amazing, beginners are sure to get the sound their after and if you know what your doing this can go from shredding to metal, don't listen to the "nay sayers" just use a lower tuning, heavier strings and if still no luck you need more lessons.

There is a lot to admire about the POD 2.0. It's made from a solid and sturdy metal case, unlike the cheap plastic of most of its direct competitors. The knobs and switches have a nice, solid feel compared to the POD's peers. It comes with a nicely printed manual, and a good power supply.Sadly, there's more to dislike than like. My biggest complaint is the sound qualities the unit produces. Not so much the quality of the sound, although that too, but more the characteristics of the sound. The POD 2.0 sounds bad. Its really hard to place exactly what's wrong. It doesn't sound over-processed or have an excessive quantity of digital artifacts in the sound, there's just something, almost indefinably wrong with what it sonically produces. Amps and cabinets are not convincing. I've owned several of the amps the POD "models" (read 'tries to copy'), and it doesn't sound like the amps I've had. The POD doesn't have the same broad sound characteristics, let alone any of the nuance, of amps it purportedly emulates so well. The sound of the included effects is hit and miss. Chorus sounds okay. Flanger sounds bad. Distortion sounds terrible.Another huge disappointment is the interface: "unintuitive." Oh, sure, you could plug it in, dial an amp, and be producing some sort of sound within seconds of turning it on, but try accessing its limited feature set, and the simplest of tasks, that devices from DigiTech, Zoom, Roland, and others handle readily, cannot be accomplished on the POD without reading the manual. Two (of many) examples: on the POD, the control that chooses emulated cabinets serves multiple functions, and picking a cabinet isn't its primary duty, picking effect(s) is. So how to pick a cabinet? You have to simultaneously hold the button labeled "Tap (Hold)" (whatever that means) and then turn the knob that selects effects. THAT was intuitive! I can think of many better ways to design the POD interface. Take the DigiTech Genesis for example: you have a knob labled "Cabinet" that when you turn it, selects the cabinet it's pointing to. Not only is the POD unintuitive and clumsy, the labeling provides none of the clarity of cabinet that most units do. Choosing "Flanger1," "Chorus2," "Chorus1," or "Tremolo" all (when Tap/Hold is held down) choose a cabinet emulating a "1x12." Is that four different 1x12s, or the same one? If different, what cabinet is a "Chrorus2" supposed to be? If I were an engineer, I'd be ashamed to show my boss an interface design like this. It's a usability nightmare: vague & arcane. Clearly "clarity" was not a design goal.Another examle is adjusting effects, like compression for example: how does one change the compression level? You turn "Effect Tweak." That one could possibly be guessed without reading the manual. Possibly. But turning the knob which way does what to what? Again, you have to crack the manual to figure out a simple function that is labeled and readily accessible on other devices. On the POD, you have to memorize which compression levels correspond to the numbers on a clock face. Unintuitive, and un-labeled. That's only one of the effects: you have to memorize what unlabeled controls do for all the effects. There are other examples of the interface's lack of usability besides these two. A POD fan would argue that it's because the POD is so "feature rich" that they just couldn't fit the right controls into the unit, or maybe couldn't afford the paint to label things appropriately, or whatever. Whichever excuse is made for the device, the issue remains.Lastly, there's the price. For all its bad sound and frustrating interface, the unit is more expensive than similar models from DigiTech, Roland, Zoom, and others. My guess is that Line 6 put all the POD's money into that nice metal case, and the others put theirs into what's inside the case.

This thing is utterly useless for recording or even practicing for that matter. All the distortion sounds are very harsh and not usable in recording situations, however the cleans are quite good but not worth the investment. Buy a combo practice amp.

I've played for close to 20 years now and have owned countless guitars and amps over that time. Don't get me wrong, to me, nothing beats plugging one of my guitars into an Ibanez TS-9 and then into a Fender tube amp. It just can't be beat. However, I only have so much money and space for amps. I picked this up used and couldn't be happier. It comes pretty close to all the great amps out there. It's not perfect but if you're like me and like variety but don't have the cash for it, this is one of the best buys you can make.

First off, if you're looking to upgrade your gain channel, look elsewhere. Most of the overdrive sounds on this are shrill and hard to place in a mix. However, the A.I.R effect is amazing. Most of the time I have all my amp sims set with low DRIVE and run my OD/DIS pedals through it. I find that the clean sounds on this work well, the cab sims are beautiful, and the effects are nice sometimes. Also, the reverb can muddle chords even at low settings; though not with every amp sim. Overall, I would not us this for any OD/DIS sounds while recording. They might be ok live, but I wouldn't even care to try. Clean sounds are nice and provide a base for stomp box OD/DIS. I'm glad I have it, though I wish there were more usable sounds.

If you understand Line 6 products, you make make this thing a killer device. Those familiar with Line 6 will get ramped up quickly. If you are new to Line 6, you will love it, but there is a small learning curve. I love the ability to customize sounds quickly. Easy to backup sounds to computer with midi cable. You get a consistent sound whereever you go. Run it direct into the house system and listen back off your monitor. Strongly recommend you get one of the pedals if you plan to use it live.
Loaded with sounds. Easy to customize.
The least expensive way to get the sounds you want.

6 Years Later I'm Still In Love

I purchased by 2.0 and Floorboard in August of 2001. What intrigued me the most was the fact that it incorporates so many utility functions in one place (tuner, effects, volume, wah pedal, etc.). For a guy who doesn't much feel like spending a fortune on a small arsenal of various pedals and gadgets, this device is perfect. Yes, the Floorboard is admittedly overpriced, and you can't effectively use the 2.0 (or XT Pod) without the Floorboard. AND, in order to feasibly use this device live, you need a guitar amp with a good clean channel. All of this I will concede. That is why I only gave 9 stars on the "value" and "overall" scores. That aside, this device is fantastic. The idea that this device is "cheesy", "processed" or otherwise less-than-legitimate is ignorant. I owned an original '69 Marshall 50 Watt 1/2 Stack for years. While I certainly loved that amp, it didn't have a thing on the Marshall Plexi sounds provided by THIS device. I use my 2.0 and Floorboard plugged into the (clean) front end of a 2-12 Hot Rod Deville. I'll "pull up to the light" with any purist's guitar rig anytime, no problem. I've used enough "real" guitar rigs in 33 years of playing (25 of those on and off professionally) to tell you that I only wish these devices had come out sooner! If you can't get a good sound out of a POD for recording and/or live performing, find another hobby or line of work. It's your ears, not the device. Better yet, read the manual first. I've never been happier with the sounds of my (19) electric guitars or my investment in a musical device than with the POD 2.0. End of story.

I bought this used and must say that this is one of the NICEST effects boards/boxes I have owned. It does take some time to get adjusted with the controls but a comprehensive look over the manual (available online) will suit any player well. Ignore the presets (which will give you a wretched hissing sound) and click on the 'manual' button. From there, you'll get a clean tone that you can adjust accordingly to your liking. My favorite thing about this box is that I can get truly any tone I'm after. From a Sabbathy bluesy-distortion to a screaming metal distortion reminiscent of a Mesa Boogie, the pod has it all. Best of all, I can record directly onto my computer and adjust the EQ and mastering with recording software. To get the most out of this pedal - read the manual and learn about proper EQing in regards to your HIs, LOWS, MIDs, and GAIN. A study of what effects do what is also necessary to completely get your money's worth. A truly remarkable piece of equipment that I could not play without.

The Pod 2.0 is one of the best modelers I've come across in its price range. Sure the sound quality isn't as great as Axe-fx or something like that, but it is nonetheless quite stellar. These units are on countless records and have been converting tone freaks for more than a decade. The overdrive models are quite good, but the cleans are absolutely superb. It also will take analog stomp boxes better than any other modeler I've owned. It reacts to playing dynamics and volume changes very well. The effects are great; my one complaint would be the somewhat limited selection. This has quickly become a centerpiece of my rig and I can see it remaining so. Love it!

    I use the POD primarily for studio use. For playing live I still prefer to use a "real" set up. It sounds great plugged direct into pro tools. The modeling is great, the effects are good, a few more parameters would be nice. In my opinion, for studio purposes this can sound just as good as micing up an amp for a lot of things. And it's nice if you want to be able to accurately recall a certain sound as that can be hard with micing, or if you need a good sound quick without the work of setting up an amp. As far as playing live it has that potential, is just has to be running through a pretty good sounding PA system.

    I do agree that the controls are very irritating to work with, no matter how many times you read the manual. That said, I connect to my computer via the MIDI ports, and I LOVE it. I avoided these things for ages, but didn't want to be dragging the Marshall stack back and forth from church. I bought mine used with the small footswitch (FB-4) for $100. Excellent value. If you build your presets well, it sounds fantastic - it's just very difficult to do without using the computer GUI. I build/adjust/rearrange my presets before each performance and always get complements on my sound and tone. FYI, the floor POD, which is a little cheaper does NOT connect to the computer, so I would recommend the 2.0 over that one.

    I've used the POD 2.0 for over 4 years now LIVE, and I could not be happier with my sound! I use it with the FB4 footswitch to change channels on the fly, and I constantly have guitarists asking me how I get my tone. I play it with a Les Paul Studio through a Rocktron Velocity 150 power amp, into a pair of custom built 2x12 cabs with Eminence Texas Heat speakers, and let me tell you, this system sizzles, smokes, & breathes fire! If you can't get a good sound out of it, you're not reading the manual. I DO NOT use the cab simulation with my rig, I set it on bypass to use the natural sound of my cabs. The cab simulation is great for recording or d/i to the P.A., but NOT for going to a guitar amp or poweramp/cab combination. Long story short, READ THE MANUAL and you'll have great sound, I love mine!

    The Line 6 - POD 2.0 sucks. This is one of the worst things that I ever bought over a hundred dollars. Although the clean settings can be quite good, the distortion tones on this P.O.D are horrible. For over two year I?ve tried to get something good out of this and all I?ve been able to get is good clean sounds. The clean is amazing I will admit but the distortion and everything else on this is horribly and horrifically weak and atrocious. It always has a hissing sound and every distortion reeks with bad tone and feedback. I use Marshall Amps and equalizers but nothing can fix this P.O.D?s Problem. You can?t even run anything through it without a very loud hissing sound. If you?re going to get a pod I would highly recommend the POD X3. The Pod X3 Works Great and is less confusing but still I wouldn?t recommend using it for distortion. Distortion wise I would buy the Line 6 Uber Metal Distortion since it goes great with the X3.

    I've played this effects processor a few times about a month ago and it was the first time I used it. I was amazed with the sound quality this thing and put out! Decent effects, and awesome amp models to chose from. Good for making classic rock sounds from bands such as lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin... even Pink Floyd. I will eventually own one of these.

      This is the most versatile piece of gear I have ever used. I bought this so that I could switch from accoustic to electric on the same channel, with minnimal problems. It works perfectly for that. I put it on the pre-amp setting, and then I can add reverb, chorus, and/or delay on my accoustic. Try doing that with seperate pedals for this price. It gives my electric the versatility to play anything from hard-rock, to blues, to A/C type stuff. Of course the sound is not quite as good as running stomp boxes through an old tube amp, but I was very suprised at how close it came. Finally, one important note, for those that complain that the sound is to processed...Do not run this through your amp, this was made to go directly into the system via a D/I. It doesn't sound that good through an amp. I run it through a cheap-o ART D/I pre-amp and it sounds incredible for both accoustic and electric.
