Comments about Line 6 POD HD Desktop Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:
Awesome tool. Great (and realistic) tones. Easy to use for the depth of features it offers. Solidly built. The best gear purchase I've made this year (so far).
I have a good collection of tube amps, including boutiques such as Germino and Reeves, as well as a Ceriatone Matchless Lightning-style amp, Peavey Delta Blues, Fender Blues Jr. (American), etc. Unfortunately, I don't usually have time to crank them during daylight hours and I don't gig lately either. So at most I get to crank up an amp for maybe 15 minutes every other day if I'm lucky. I picked up this Pod HD so I could practice late at night without waking the house and also to record during those late hours. I've usually had an aversion to digital gear, preferring to turn analog-style knobs to adjust tone, etc.
The models on the Pod, and there aren't a ton of them, are very good. All amp models are highly tweakable, either from the unit itself or from the free editing software for computer (which is a must because it is so cool and easy to use). I am not a high gain player, so my favorite models are the JTM 45, Fender Bassman, and Fender Twin and Deluxe. These are pretty much the real amps I would gravitate to anyway. The tones are pretty realistic, and respond very well to changes in pick attack and guitar volume (another part of my playing). This is a huge plus as far as I'm concerned. The dynamic nature of these new models is light years ahead of what I remember digitally modeled tones to be. The higher gain tones sound good to me as well, but it's not the tone that I generally use. I do like the Marshall JCM 800 model in particular for higher gain. It sounds VERY much like the amps I remember playing years ago.
The effects are very handy to have. I find myself slapping a bit of reverb on the Fender models, or a bit of delay for lead. The overdrives are good for driving the basic tone a bit harder. Again, much like with a real amp. I did not care for most of the presets, as they are over the top.
I've dialed in a half dozen of my own patches and use these much in the way I would use a real amp and pedals. Having this tool available has been great. It lets me play for a few hours while everyone is asleep. Keep my chops up. I look forward to recording with this soon.
Very solidly built. Metal construction. Feels substantial. I did pick up the case for this and keep it stored that way to protect it. I give it an eight because the push button controls don't feel super high quality, but are reasonable for the price and market.
Lot of bang for the buck here. Could probably go down another $100 to be a 10. But it's a relatively new model and does offer a lot of value for the money as is.
Comments about Line 6 POD HD Desktop Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:
I love the sounds this new HD line brings to the tabe. Very organic sounding effects and amp modeling is real darn close to perfect. One tip would be to use this unit with your computer it is so much easier to create sounds and tweak them on the computer screen then on the units. Which In turn that would be my only dislike is they need some bigger screens on the unit itself. Thanks line 6 for a great product. Make sure to go onto the line 6 website and download line 6 monkey and upgrade the drivers on this unit, plus it has a few more amp models you also download with the upgrade.
So many to list. It is such a great unit in my opinion. Amp stacking, built In interface, easy to use editing features (amazing when using using a computer), works great with windows vista (laptop), and with windows 7 (desktop). The amp modeling has improved so much from other pod models. Way more organic sounding. Compact and light weight which makes the pod the perfect tool for recording on to your computer.
Well built unit. Made of metal and I have actually dropped mine a few times and it still works like a charm. Great interface with no latency issues on recording.
A pretty good price for this unit. I mostly use mine for recording on my laptop which its compact design comes in very handy. If your willing to spend more money you can get the HD500 floor unit which has the same features just with floor pedals to store and switch your effects.
